I stopped using quick start along time ago. When BR players were so slow, and that feature was added, many of them seemed to be buggy.

Thanks for the info everyone. I picked up the Panny last night. I really wish it would play all the available 4K/UHD formats for streaming.
But it seems people have got this unit working well with the new JVC projectors (I own a JVC RS600 projector), so into the pool I have jumped.

All my expensive best buy shipments are usually 2 day and no signature.

Those cluttering connectors offer some very impressive quality audio output if you have some equally impressive equipment to hook them up to

So, I pulled the plug on the Panasonic, and once it came back up, all was working. Maybe it does not like the "quick on" feature, since it keeps the circuits on all the time. But, it is something to look out for, in case others run into this issue.
Funny I've just tested the quick startup function last night and the same thing happened ohh well it must have a fault it was proving to be perfect so far

Posting this from Toronto. I am excited to hear from many of you your thoughts of the unit. We were lucky here in Canada to receive it a month earlier... although I have some comments on HDR playback that I hope some with a modeling use can comment on.

First off I had reset my unit (initial settings) and put it aside unplugged for a couple weeks waiting for a 4K TV exchange to process.

All this to say when I unpacked it last night the WIFI settings must still have been hard written as it asked me if I wanted to update the new firmware having just plugged it in.

When I did I put in a 4K HDR BD and with proper setup on my TV ...HDR notification was turing on off.

Someone in another forum said it might be due to the player/disc/TV understanding the HDR while the Top Menu is loading. This was not the case for me. Even the video was cutting out during this HDR notifications (on TV screen) ??

Anyone have ideas?

I don't. Just an HDMI is enough for me, so if the video performance and flexibility is the same, I'll be comparing the Oppo 103D 4K replacement to the 700--probably both be available at the same time.

The HDMI audio quality is also better compared to the S as it upscales it to higher sample rates and its noticeable, confirmed by others as well.

I always thought that if you are using the HDMI connection as opposed to the Analog connectors you are using the DACS of your AVR or Pre/Pro. I have been told that a higher quality HDMI cable, one that has a higher percentage of Silver could improve the audio quality but that is probably sales speak.

I'm not so sure if we'll ever see it. FYI, the planned evolution for UHD BD is to go to 12 bit, or HDR12 sooner rather than later. We might have a year or so of 10 bit releases but then it should be 12-bit after that. So during the product's lifespan, native 10-bit may be like the first few batches of Blu-ray disc titles that had Rec.601 colour. Does anyone have a list of those titles to ensure they view them with the correct calibrated colour mode? Does anyone care at this point? The same will happen with these 10bit titles. Possibly once the larger capacity discs become more the norm, we'll see 12-bit arrive. Just speculating.

Yeah most think that digital audio is always the same however not always, it comes down to sample rates and the Panny can do up to 192Khz which makes the difference. Its very simple to test with a PC, hook it up to your AVR that supports up to 192Khz and start testing at the lowest 44.1Khz you will hear a noticeable difference in clarity. Of course you need the speakers to resolve that sort of quality too. That was the first thing I noticed when I first hooked up the Samsung I wasn't pleased with the clarity.

If you are using bitstream (which is essential for Atmos and DTS:X) then the audio stream is completely unchanged and should be bit perfect straight off the disc.

No, the sample rate isn't it can be upscaled. In any case this is an age old topic and some believe it some don't, an owner who didn't believe this went form the Samsung to the Panny and admittedly noticed the difference. Just do the test I explained you will see/hear. Check the settings the Panny can upsample the S can't.
