So during the product's lifespan, native 10-bit may be like the first few batches of Blu-ray disc titles that had Rec.601 colour. Does anyone have a list of those titles to ensure they view them with the correct calibrated colour mode? Does anyone care at this point? The same will happen with these 10bit titles. Possibly once the larger capacity discs become more the norm, we'll see 12-bit arrive. Just speculating.

If this is true how will this affect most all of us who have only TV's with 10 bit capability, even if I do have the Panasonic player that does 12 bit.

Of course you need the speakers to resolve that sort of quality too. That was the first thing I noticed when I first hooked up the Samsung I wasn't pleased with the clarity.

If I get this player I will compare the audio with using HDMI to my Classe SSP-800 which has a very good DAC to using the Analog outputs of the Panasonic using it's DAC. Anyway I will be using the separate 2-channel Analog outs for listening to cd's, so I will get the benefit of the Panasonic's audio upgrade.

It is beautiful to listen to via the analogue output.

The new UB900 has been an awesome 4K player so far,

I thought I'd check out its 1080 Bluray upscale to 4K abilities too and it was very good (at least to my old eyes)

Spoiler!

Kudos to your PQ pics PioManiac, I can tell your passion for A/V is epic. The photos you took look really really good. It is not easy to take decent photos of an image (Projection or TV) and do it any justice.

Scifi is my jam! Prometheus rocks in visual & audio & fear factors! Maybe one day they will remaster it with HDR & 4k & 3D & Atmos or DTS-X all combined. I know current 3D is limited to 1080p and the format is losing some traction. But that movie deserves all the techno chutzpah the engineering geeks can throw at it. IMHO

I await the sequels...

PS: I checked out your home theater project thread, man you have come a long way towards a excellent home theater experience.

It appears a sequel to Prometheus is coming in 2017! Here is a link & info: http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/

Based on those pictures it looks like 4K. It's good to know that this player upscales so well, makes me want to run down to my local Best Buy store to see if they have them available.

Those look bad ass. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to try mine tonight after delivery. I am a blu-ray concert fanatic and can't wait to see how it upscales some of my concerts I have. In fact, over the few 4K discs I have bought this will probably be my first viewing with drink in tow..

well I feel your pain man, but the good thing about the world we live in is that no one ever forces us to have to buy things either.

I'm sure there are still people out there rocking 720p TVs and still only watching DVDs

I'm a HUGE concert nut myself,

I already have Roger Waters The Wall cued up for tonight, (7.4.4 Dolby Atmos)
..I watched it 4 times since its release, but not with the new Panny+JVC combo.

I started it last night but it was getting near midnight after Prometheus

Now that I have my 4K settings dialed in for 4K blu-rays, I wanted to see what people are doing for standard 1080p blu-rays.

With my Samsung 4K player and the Oppo before that, I set the resolution to 1080p for standard blu-ray. Are you guys upconverting or not?

Also, are there any tweaks to the audio settings that need to be done via HDMI?

Thanks.

This morning it said they were available for in store pickup today so I ordered one.
Unfortunately my order status is "still in process" and I went back to the order page
and it no longer says available today. Typical Best Buy!

I guess I shouldn't complain, I'm sure there's many others that are lagging further behind when it comes to technology like you said.

I can't find this player in stock from any Best Buy near me. Where is everyone getting their DMP-UB900s from?

It's not on Amazon either. I'd love to pick one up and save the almost $60 in tax.

Not sure where you live but Value Electronics I believe has them in stock and ready to ship. They are in New York. I received mine the next day and I'm in Maryland.

That is what I did. Ordered around lunch time and it shipped the same day. Had it two days later and it arrived in perfect shape.

I have bought stuff from them before over the years and never had any issues dealing with them. Very professional company.

I have the player output everything @4k (and have that input on my AVR set to "direct" for no processing).
The only thing you need to do on the audio side is set to "bitstream". BTW, I tried those "tube amp" DSP settings on a CD and some aren't so bad; they only work when outputting a PCM stream (like CD); I also set the up-sampling to "96/88".

The only thing you need to do on the audio side is set to "bitstream". BTW, I tried those "tube amp" DSP settings on a CD and some aren't so bad; they only work when outputting a PCM stream (like CD); I also set the up-sampling to "96/88".
I do like those tube amp settings they are pretty cool.

I started it last night but it was getting near midnight after Prometheus
I am using those two for testing too. RW is a real treat in Atmos on this kit.

Received my player about 1.5 hours ago and got the unit hooked-up but nothing dialed in yet. I love it after only an hour! I am just watching some concerts now and they look amazing. This is really my passion and the reason I spend an arm and leg on audio/video gear.

I will try one of my 4K discs soon. Having fun with concert upconvert at the moment. You know, this is my first 4K display, only two weeks old and now my first UHD spinner. Of course we buy these units for 4K content but I cannot believe how much enjoyment I am getting from upconverting my day to day content.

I am not sure I could go back now..

This is my little bedroom set-up. I can't wait to get my Sharp Elite replaced with another OLED and take a five inch hit, 70 to 65. It's a blast. I am having a hard time with the Elite now.
The ghosting around the white names of songs is not there. It's coming from camera.

Really bad phone pics of a concert but loving it. When I pause it blurs a bit. It is so much sharper than this. Need to get all the settings dialed in as well but hey it's only an hour old

edit: a few 4K. Faces look great.

got mine. I freaking love this thing. the HDR to sdr conversion is awesome. do we have any idea of how much the adjustment control actually affects the image? it just has a scale of -12 to +12. the manual and on screen menu aren't very helpful when it comes to details.

We are running this player in a 65 e6 oled at my work (electronics retailer) with a Queen blu ray and omg it's just incredible. You can almost count freddies chest hairs (gross) the detail on the upscaling is unreal.
