It seems to me that that applies to close captioning (e.g. from streaming), not for subtitles on Blu-ray discs.

I can't see the shift functionality in your pictures but I guess it is in some other menu?

Has anyone used the DMP-UB900 with a VPL-VW1100ES? Any issues?

I'm surprised there is actually a screen saver. It shouldn't be needed on any UHD TV.

Probably not needed but I feel better knowing the feature is there for my OLED.

But it is literally a grey box with the word "screensaver" in it. Lol. What were they thinking? Maybe at least display the Panasonic logo or something more polished.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info! That is not a good thing. But because the new Oppo will be so cheap I think I will choose it and skip the Pana. And Oppo should have a proper subtitle shift.

Yea, just saw the cedia expose about the uhd oppo where one of the oppo team members has pictures and everything stating 499...it really just looks like a 103 that probably just plays uhd and thats probably the only added feature...because even 103 was ahead of its time as far as features so it really didn't need to add much more

Oppo has not confirmed the price yet, I guess. But unofficial sources tell that there will be two models and the 203 model will be about $499. https://mobile.twitter.com/chrishein...10793001029633
I guess there is better information in the Oppo thread. I have not been reading it lately.
And of course we don't know the specs yet. So we will see if it is better than Pana. But because of the missing subtitle shift in Pana I just have to wait for Oppo and hope that it will be as cheap as people are saying.

Sorry about that small off topic conversation. But I also think that it should be allowed to compare the players. And what I was saying is that Oppo has some features (like the subtitle shift. Although not confirmed, all the previous players have had it) that the Panasonic is missing and also the pricing is very competitive. And the reason I brought Oppo to this thread was that at first it was said that Pana can do subtitle shift but then it was noticed that it actually can't do it for BD movies. So I decided to share the information about new Oppo which should be able to do it.
I think it is just good to share basic information about other players also because it may help people to find a suitable player for them. As long as we don't get into a long conversation just about the other player.
But I will respect your wish and won't bring Oppo to this thread anymore.

Who says Panasonic don't do subtitle shift?
At least EU model do.
With BD and Dvd but NOT streaming.

One big thing lacking in the Panasonic (at least for now) is VUDU.

I have a large collection of movies and the service also offers some 4K content.

Which I understood that subtitle shift doesn't work with BD but only with streaming. But is it the other way around?
This would be so much simpler if that info was in the user manual...

Hi guys, anyone had problems playing files off a USB stick on this machine? For some reason my new player will not see any files on a USB yet sees them on my DLNA server.

Can someone explain how the Panasonic player differs from the Samsung player when it comes to the HDR -> SDR conversion. The way i understand it is that i can disable HDR on the Pana player and with the help of a HDFury, i can then output 2160p with WCG to any display regardless if its HDR compatible or not. Is this correct?

Does this also work on the Samsung?

Two different things:

HDR to SDR conversion, which the Panny does, will take the 4k/24 BT2020 HDR 10 bit signal and output 4k/24 BT709 SDR 8 bit, if you just want the resolution benefit.

If you have something that can't do HDR, but does WCG fine, then you need the HD Fury. Once it is in the chain you would get 4k/24 BT2020 SDR (HDR stripped but WCG left).

Well stated. I was about the type the same thing.

I have previous posted how impressed I am with the Panasonic/HD Fury combo handling the WCG with SDR. The Samsung did a poor job, IMO, compared to the Panasonic in this area.

Overall - very good investment and I am enjoying my system even more now.

Is the HD Fury unit you are referring to their Integral product?
How can a tv or pj that can't do HDR do the new standard of WCG? For example, I have a 300es pj which is 8bit. I don't believe it can handle the WCG of BT2020.

Many displays that claim to be HDR compliant, dont do it that well, but do WCG fine. FP's are one example due to brightness limitations.

Saying you can do it, and actually doing it well are two different things. In my case, I cant really cal the image for WCG or HDR, so Id rather just get 4k/24 SDR 709 potentially.
