I have the Panasonic, but according to my understanding it does not do vertical stretch on UHD 4K discs, correct?
I am just checking this here to be sure that there isn't some menu etc. option that I haven't noticed.

The original firmware when I got mine had a setting for the display to go off. It was changed with the first firmware update.

I had similar issue with the front display. It's back to off during playback but I had to turn on high clarity sound or some other weird setting. I think it's during playbavk you click the option button and it's not through the settings of the home screen.

I never had an issue, I think I first tried auto which weirdly did not work so went for dim, but have you read the manual

Streaming file types

Hi folks...is there one specific file type that you use that the panni will always stream? I'm looking to load up a hard drive with some 1080p movies, that I would like the Panni to upscale to 4K...is there a file type that consistently works? Thanks folks...

Ok, got it to work...it's a combination of setting high clarity sound in the settings menu before playing a disc and then during playback hit the options button and bugger around with the setting for high clarity sound in there...viola, front panel display off!

I wonder what HCS has got to to do with the display?? Ahh yes I remember I cuts even the display to eliminate all possibilities of noise pollution.

I just upgraded from the Sammy UBD-K8500 to the Panny DMP-UB900. Without doing a detailed comparison, my initial impression is that the UB900 picture is somewhat improved for upconverted 1080 to 4K blurays, along with native 4K Blurays. Upconverted DVD's was noticeably sharper on the Sammy using the default sharpness settings on both players. Both the settings and info display is night and day better on the Panny. It drove me crazy that I could not find detail of the player input/output on the Samsung.

My only question is, is there a way to adjust the A/V sync while running a Bluray? The pop up player settings menus do not include the A/V sync option, it only appears to be on the full settings on the "home" screen. This makes it impossible play a calibration bluray to set the sync. Am I missing something?

I can't

I don't have a DMP-BDT 500,
...so that would be impossible for me to comment on.

bdt500 is 1080P only....dmp-900 is same as 500 but plays 4K disk as well. You have 1080p display so you will not get 4K unless you upgrade your display to 4K also. So even if you use 4K player, it will still output 1080P on your display.
