If you have a samsung TV on the actual TV you can turn on UHD color.

On the k8500 turn HDMI DEEP COLOR OFF

HDMI DEEP COLOR on the BluRay player should definitely be set to OFF.

This is frustrating. Looks like I'm going to create tickets to both Samsung and Sony. Wish this was like DVDs back in 97. Just plug and go with same tvs and cables.
The Color (Auto?) setting could create just as many bandwidth problems as the resolution (4:4:4 is the worst). The fact that it is fine with Blu-Rays tells me it probably isn't the player; I assume the TV is older and won't benefit from any firmware updates (you didn't specify the model). I also assume you've tried "high bandwidth" HDMI cables, so all fingers point towards the TV.
BTW, remember the incompatibility between progressive component and interlaced component back in the early days of DVD? It wasn't exactly "plug and play" either!

I'm not at liberty to go into details, but this issue affects the 2016 Sonys and the company is trying to find a solution. If you haven't already, you need to open a ticket with Sony since they currently have not identified the exact cause of the issue.

Just checking in.

Got done talking with Fandango (MGO). They still have no tentative deliverable for a 4k app for the K8500. (for those of us wanting HD Audio for our 4k movies from MGO).

I keep beating my drumb, they keep saying no... ill just keep beating the ever loving F* out of it.

Had a friend sell his Oppo 103 after buying the 8500. Have any other Oppo owners here compared the two? Curious to know what specific differences you noticed...aside from 4k, of course.

COACH2369 just sold me is 103 after picking up the Samsung. We should ask him.

Does AVS support anything like @COACH2369 to summon someone?

My stuff is old, but it still works well. Apparently AVS finds it to old to keep in their database but I'm still happy with it.

According to my sources at SAMSUNG, the Fandango app should be updated for HDR compatibility by September.

I have the OPPO 103D & the Sammy UHD 8500 together in my rack. For me, i prefer my OPPO for Blu-ray because of the Darbee enhancement. Overall, ill use the OPPO for dvds & blu's. The 8500 will handle 4k discs and some streaming duties!

I have an Oppo 103 and K8500 the Oppo sounds better in every way. The more I use the K8500 the more I dislike it. I am seriously thinking about dumping it and getting the Panasonic when it comes out.

This is hard to keep up with, so many posts!

So what is the verdict on the player solely as a UHD BRD player? What are the major pros and cons?

I have a new 4K TV, new AVR and all I need is a UHD BRD player... can't decide if I should hold off for another brand or not. Not too keen on Panasonic's price, and don't need all it's features. I just want something that plays UHD BRD's.

I sold my oppo...the ONLY thing the oppo does that I miss is it has the Tidal app.

for those saying the oppo sounds or looks better (unless it has the darbee..or your using the preouts) you do realize it cannot look or sound better right? its a digital transport...it doesnt change the 1's and 0's

Oppo's upscaler is visibly better than the 8500, Oppo also has 2 HDMI inputs.

For 1080p/24 to 4k/24, I prefer the Samsung. Now for DVD scaling to 4k/24 or whatever, I dunno because I generally do not watch DVD, but I sold my 103D and only use the Samsung.

As far as apps, there is no comparison, Oppo loses hands down.

It isn't a digital transport unless you are outputting exactly what is on the disk, for instance neither the oppo or Samsung will let you output 4:2:0 will they?

How does the Oppo sound better if the audio is being bitstreamed?

So the HDMI inputs work with UHD sources? I have a couple of the Darbee Darblets but I can't feed them a UHD signal. I wouldn't mind being able to feed the output of K8500 into a Darbee.

Yeah I don't think any darbee sources work with UHD signals. The Lumagen Radiance Pro will at least accept a 4K signal and give you darbee when watching 1080 content.

I have both atm homey. One important aspect is if you want the atmos/DTS:X soundtracks on some of these new releases, you need the 4k disc, which means you can't use the oppo, which is a pretty serious point for me as you already know.

Only way I see oppo winning the comparison is it has a cooler remote that lights up, and it looks normal in a rack, i.e. not curved... which is a little silly. Once I get the unit programmed to the harmony, then there literally is no way the oppo makes sense to keep around honestly.

Recently upgraded to a 4k Vizio P75, beautiful display!

But now I needed to use HDMI 2 for audio to the AVR but so far a no go.

Have reset the 8500 checked settings and even called Samsung, Ugh.
2 calls 1st a complete bust, person knew nothing about the UBD had to call a second time with semi success but they were to send me info for repair, still has not happened. They had my phone number and email address as she read it to me from the records.

Anyway I am on the latest firmware 1005 but what seemed odd is under System it listed all info for the 8500 except serial number; there it said something like "failed to get".

Can someone take a look and see if they have the same or could this be an indication of a bad update?

I have had this player since Feb. and it has worked great until now and needing to use HDMI 2 for audio. Now of course exchange is out of that window with BB. And I really hate to send in for repair since it's about 2 weeks or so for turn around.

Am I missing something?

AVR work fine for this function used with my Panny BD player.
