Problem for you perhaps but based on this post of yours posted only yesterday on the Vizio P thread where you stated that you think it is dropping frames...

Bought the 8500 on Friday. Got sick of the Roku 4 being meh ... so I took the plunge with this player and love it. The Netflix streaming is much nicer!

The picture is amazing on my first gen Sony 4K 850A. (So can't wait to get my wedding next year ... gonna get the LG OLED flagship, 65 inch.)

Anyway - my only complaint about the DVD player is the ****ty remote and kinda sluggish response to the menu screen. Also, I can't figure out how to arrange 'MY APPS.' I only want Netflix and Amazon on there.

CAN'T wait to see a 4K flick!

Search this thread for Skipped Frames, you'll see others noticed it.

It's not my display.

Per your request, I searched the thread for Skipped Frames and found 5 posts as per the attached thumbnail.

Secondly, I didn't say it was your Vizio P display. Rather I asked if you had contacted Samsung Support with details.

Get the much larger replacement remote. It's only around $7.50 now. It well worth it for the larger remote buttons and dedicated FF/Rew buttons. I haven't touched the stock K8500 remote since getting the larger remote back in early May.

Every one else still getting really poor mbps from the YouTube app? I ran a speed test that showed that the player itself was getting 40+ mpbs but when I'm using the youtube app I get 10-15 lately, what gives? It's annoying because I can never use the app to watch 4k videos but have zero problems doing so on YouTuve using my web browser on my PC when it's hooked up to my TV.

Never been a problem for me. I pay for 50,000Kbps and generally get 40,000 to 50,000 Kbps Connection Speed when engaging the K8500's YouTube app's SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen but have even seen speeds exceeding 60,000 Kbps on occasion when playing YouTube videos.

I get similar speeds using the YouTube app on my Samsung TV's YouTube app as well.

_____________________________

How do you enable the SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen while using the YouTube app?

The following tutorial demonstrates how to pull up the YouTube SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen with examples using a video titled "Ultra-Running Beauty".

This is the most reliable way of finding out the resolution currently being displayed as well as an indicator showing your connection speed as well as other details useful in diagnosing any problems.

1) Start the SmartTV YouTube app as you normally would then press the arrow LEFT key to bring up the tab depicted below...

2) Select the Settings option and press ENTER and then arrow RIGHT 9 times to get to the SHOW VIDEO INFO option and press ENTER to Enable it and then the EXIT key to get out of the YouTube Settings Menu...

3) Now begin by finding and playing the 4K video. The info screen will overlay on top of your video. As you can see, the Resolution is showing 3840 x 2160 with the Mime Type indicating it is using the new VP9 codec.

You can now toggle the overlay screen OFF and ON by bringing up the progress bar and selecting More Options and clicking on the Gear to make the SHOW VIDEO INFO screen disappear and reappear.

Important: Just because the Resolution indicated isn't shown as 3840 x 2160 that doesn't mean the video isn't 4K. The resolution may vary depending on the selected video and the speed of your Internet Connection. Recommend a 20 Mbps connection or better to maintain 4K quality.

Note: Although most YouTube videos containing the word '4K' or 'UHD' in the title are Ultra HD, that is not always the case! YouTube has now included an icon in the lower right hand corner of each thumbnails returned in a search indicating whether the video is [4K] or [HD] which is more accurate.

Having some interesting issues with my player as of last week. It's been totally fine since I bought it in April, but now:

-Blinking red light every time I turn it on. I have to toggle power multiple times, and press the other capacitive buttons on the front to eventually get it to turn on.

-Frequent video dropouts when using the Netflix app at 4K.

-Frequent freezes while using the Netflix app (picture freezes, audio continues, no buttons work. Have to repeatedly press the home button to back out.)

-4K disks force my TV in and out of HDR mode multiple times before starting up, causing more video drops.

I don't really know what to make of this issue. I get a rocksteady 55+mbps at all times and don't have issues with internet speed with Amazon Video where I get UHD every time or Netflix.

I even ran a speed test on the 8500's web browser and got 44mbps there. It's just inconsistent. I just got 44mbps (using the info option on the YouTube app) from it watching a trailer just now and then tried it again and was getting 17mbps. I have the same issue with the Samsung app as well.

When the 8500 first came out I asked about this and others had the same issue so I just figured the app needed to be patched or something.

Quick question for you guys, still playing with all the new toys, when we are playing a UHD blu ray through our Sammy, should there be a separate settings in our picture mode settings that turns on, hdr bright, hdr vivid, etc........i could have sworn I seen this when we were playing gods of Egypt, and now when playing batman vs superman I don't see it anymore. Maybe it was when we were streaming on Netflix. We have the lg uh8500

Unfortunately I do not believe that's the case. I have the 300mbs package with TWC and I've checked my speed numerous times and no hitches. I'm connected with a network cable instead of wireless. Also, I have another Samsung blu-ray player (non 4k) and i've never had any problems with it whatsoever during Streaming. This is the second 8500 I bought (I swapped out my last one thinking it was defective) and it has the same issue. I even swapped cables and same issue.

I'm wondering if perhaps it's a setting since it appears that there's only a small minority that is experiencing the problem. I have it connected to a Samsung 4k TV the UN78KS9500FXZA. I initially had an issue with the two together and it trurned out that it was HDMI-CEC that was causing the prior issues. Perhaps it's another setting?

Yeah, I found your post over on the closed thread.

I saw several guys responded that they were having similar issues along with one of your replies saying "Of course I go on to check it out right now and every movie I'm playing is defaulting to 4K, even though it was doing it like 10% of the time before that."

Oh well at least it's not "every one else".

I see one of the parameters on the SHOW VIDEO INFO screen is called Stream Host so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

For what it's worth, while I am running the Ultra Running Beauty 4K video used in the tutorial above, right now it is using Stream Host r5---sn-nx5e6n76 and continues to do so on repeated plays even after exiting the app and returning. It is using the same Stream Host whether I am using the K8500 YouTube app or the Youtube app on my tv.

It seems that upon testing well over a few dozen random videos tonight they are all being hosted by a similarly named server in so much that they all share the digits bolded in red and in a couple of cases they have even shared all the digits except for the first two.

I am located in Victoria BC Canada and my ISP is Shaw Cable.

Just throwing it out there.

Good luck.

I just tried a couple of 4K Youtube videos. I saw the bitrate go as high as 72Mb/s from the info overlay. With it mostly hovering between 55Mb/s and 70Mb/s. Although I'm not sure why that is different from my router info. Since my router bandwidth meter only showed the peak bitrate being used at 52Mb/s.

I need some explanation on subsampling. I have a new Vizio P65 , which just got the HDR firmware update. The only way I found to get HDR working was to set HDMI color to Auto (not 4.4.4) on the 8500 and enable HDMI Subsampling on the input on the P65. There is also a Denon x3200 in the mix, but no up scaling is done on it. I guess I'd like to understand why this works and if I'm losing any benefits with this configuration.

Curious if your Denon app reports what the incoming color specs are? RGB or YCbCr? 4:4:4 or 4:2:x ?

YouTube Stream Host

For those following the YouTube app Connection Speed discussion that @JohngPR began yesterday, although I am still receiving decent connection speeds necessary to play 4K videos, I noticed this morning that the Ultra Running Beauty video in my case now begins by using Stream Host r1---sn-ni5f-t8ge before switching over to r5---sn-nx5e6n76 like it was using last night.

It appears that this morning in all cases the videos are beginning on one Stream Host and part way through are jumping to another which they didn't do last night. Sometimes it only takes a brief moment before they switch, other times considerably longer like up to several minutes or more on a lengthy video.

What I have also noticed is that when it switches over to a different Stream Host the Connection Speed also increases. In my case the host containing sn-ni5 is generally slower than the host it is being passed over to containing sn-nx5.

I have even noticed in rare cases the Stream Host switching back and forth more than once during the playing of a YouTube video.

Maybe because today is Monday and yesterday was Sunday!

With that being said I hope this information helps anyone trying to diagnose their YouTube Resolution and Connection Speed issues.

Edit

Where I indicated this morning that "in all cases the videos are beginning on one Stream Host and part way through are jumping to another which they didn't do last night", this afternoon that is now not always the case.

I understand the the movie "Tomorrowland" was created using "4K-every-step-of-the-way".

I have a question for owners of the Samsung UHD player who have the 4K version of "Tomorrowland" AND the 1080p version of "Tomorrowland" AND are using a 1080p projector as a display device.

My question is simple. Does the on-screen image quality of the 4K-down-scaled-to-1080p look noticeably better than that of the "native" 1080p BD?

(I ask this because my wife and I own a JVC RS1 which is 1080p, but still functions perfectly. If the Samsung's down-scaled 4K-all-the-way movies looks noticeably better than the 1080p BDs, we'd spend the extra money for the UHD Samsung today rather than wait for the day that the RS1 dies. It would be a relatively inexpensive upgrade for better PQ -- at least on 4K-all-the-way movies. BTW, the reason that 4K down-scaled to 1080p can look better than native 1080p is explained here:
I know this is true because I have seen it with my own eyes on Note 4 4K files I've converted from 4K to 1080p. I just wonder if the Samsung UHD player does the same thing "on the fly".)

Thanks.

No, I don't have any info. For some reason I thought it had already been released in 4K, although I can't remember why. I think I read somewhere on AVS that it was, or about to be, released in 4K and that was quite some time ago.

Spoiler!
As @galonzo mentioned that movie is not offered in 4K but even if one of us with a UHD setup owned it or a similarily created disc and output the UHD disc at 1080p our TV's would upscale it to 4K so not quite the same as what you are after vis-a-vis outputting a UHD disc at 1080p to a 1080p display.

I would defer to the video you linked to along with similar information published on the internet as well as the input of guys on here who own a 1080p projectors who are doing exactly what you are contemplating.

Cheers!

YouTube Stream Host

Interesting. Of course I tried it today and had much better look the few times I tried.

Tried a few minutes later and it was around 27mbps. Perhaps you are on to something witht he change server thing? I didn't think to take a picture of what server I was on at the time.

I would take a wild guess that based on the screen shot you included that the Stream Host you were on containing the string "sn-q4f" is your preferred host just like "sn-nx5" is mine.

Try some more videos and see if they eventually lock on to a server containing the same characters in the 6th to 10th position.

If they do I think we are onto something... just not sure what!

Anyone have issues playing Batman VS Superman? I just bought the player and 3 discs- B VS S, Deadpool, and Mad Max. It plays the other discs but tells me I need to check the disc and will not play.

I haven't hooked the player up to the Internet as I currently don't have a router or wifi signal near my HT room where the only 4K display (Sony vw1100es) is located. I am using the option of two HDMI cables currently to get both audio and video since my AVR isn't 4K.

Any thoughts or similar issues?

Thanks all!
Alex

I could if I knew the sequence to do it blind without a display. We recently switched to Apple routing/networking so will need another extender/airport so will try after that if all else fails.

No way that I am aware of to update the firmware from another room unless it was powered on and being accessed by Samsung Support after you had activated the Settings >> Support >> Remote Management feature.
