It's annoying because I can never use the app to watch 4k videos but have zero problems doing so on YouTuve using my web browser on my PC when it's hooked up to my TV.
Never been a problem for me. I pay for 50,000Kbps and generally get 40,000 to 50,000 Kbps Connection Speed when engaging the K8500's YouTube app's SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen but have even seen speeds exceeding 60,000 Kbps on occasion when playing YouTube videos.
I get similar speeds using the YouTube app on my Samsung TV's YouTube app as well.
How do you enable the SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen while using the YouTube app?
The following tutorial demonstrates how to pull up the YouTube SHOW VIDEO INFO overlay screen with examples using a video titled "Ultra-Running Beauty
This is the most reliable way of finding out the resolution currently being displayed as well as an indicator showing your connection speed as well as other details useful in diagnosing any problems.
1) Start the SmartTV YouTube app as you normally would then press the arrow LEFT key to bring up the tab depicted below...
2) Select the Settings option and press ENTER and then arrow RIGHT 9 times to get to the SHOW VIDEO INFO option and press ENTER to Enable
it and then the EXIT key to get out of the YouTube Settings Menu...
3) Now begin by finding and playing the 4K video. The info screen will overlay on top of your video. As you can see, the Resolution
is showing 3840 x 2160
with the Mime Type
indicating it is using the new VP9 codec
You can now toggle the overlay screen OFF and ON by bringing up the progress bar and selecting More Options
and clicking on the Gear
to make the SHOW VIDEO INFO screen disappear and reappear.
: Just because the Resolution indicated isn't shown as 3840 x 2160 that doesn't mean the video isn't 4K. The resolution may vary depending on the selected video and the speed of your Internet Connection. Recommend a 20 Mbps connection or better to maintain 4K quality.
: Although most YouTube videos containing the word '4K' or 'UHD' in the title are Ultra HD, that is not always the case! YouTube has now included an icon in the lower right hand corner of each thumbnails returned in a search indicating whether the video is [4K] or [HD] which is more accurate.
