I wonder if it's because Samsung realizes that MS dropped the ball with the missing HD features? I really thought the price was going to drop even further.
Good question. I picked up an XB1S over the weekend and it was just too limited as a 4K player IMHO. I returned it and was lucky enough to pick up the Sammy used locally from someone who owned it for about 2 weeks for $200.

Ironically, he said he was selling it so he could buy a XB1S, lol.

I still wonder just exactly WHY Samsung went with that terrible design on their best player. I cannot believe that their design engineers and QC staff of testers did not mention this obvious, user-unfriendly deficiency. Again, WTF was Samsung thinking? Was it an minimalist "aesthetic" design that looks kinda nifty (but, as with most such aesthetic designs, is difficult to use on a daily basis)?

(Maybe in the future an included remote will go the way of the at-one-time included HDMI cable -- in other words, NOT included. And if you want the specified remote that controls all of a players difficult-to-access menus and GUIs, it's gonna cost you big time.)

The slim, elegant cabinets and slender, minimalist remotes are designed to cater to the female demographic, I've been told.

This is common with most streaming services, and that is why I avoid using the soft rewind and fast forward commands. It's not limited to streaming devices and Blu-ray players...I've seen it happen with TVs as well, and in particular with higher resolution content (UHD).

I believe that this is the first player I've owned that had audible fan noise.

I have to be standing right next to it and have the door to the AV cabinet open, but it's there.

You'd have to be insanely compulsive to care.

Firmware to deal with such issues will only happen if enough Sony projector owners complain to Samsung and Sony.

I definitely will not be holding my breath for that update. I was hoping the new xbox one s would finally support atmos and dts x so i could switch to using that as a uhd player. But microsoft failed to add that.

The Panasonic DMP-U900 is now available for preorder at BestBuy. Currently, there's no support for HDR on any of the apps, and streaming is limited at the moment to 60fps...but that could change with future firmware updates.

No device with a running fan is silent. Since every fan makes noise. It's just a matter of whether you can hear it.

Just installed my new K8500 that I got as an open box from Crutchfield. From what I can tell it's pretty much new and still plastic wrapped. Can't argue with $287. Plays fantastic in my set up.

Also don't forget the Panasonic HDR output is fixed at 12bit which is causing some banding and macro blocking with some sets, a certified AV reviewer in the UK has asked Panasonic many times why there is no 10bit HDR output meaning it upscales to 12bit and it seems it may be a quirk of the chroma processing chip that the player uses...

FYI to all, Panasonic releasing a lower version of the ub900 called ub90. The back side is identical to the samsung by only having the power plug, dual hdmi, and ethernet plug. Article I seen today said it was being released in Japan, no other info known.

Actually some video modes in 10bit not supported by HDMI at all. There was a chart in the Philips thread and I'll post a copy here. So even outputting the 10bit 4:2:0 off the disc can't be done at all. It isn't panasonic's fault. The Philips player outputs 12bit as well and has not had complaints about picture issues that I have seen.

Once again I will have to mention this remote.
I discovered last night that the buttons "Subtitles" and "Audio" are ALSO supported in the Netflix app.
So pressing "Subtitles" gives me Netflix scroll down menu of available subs.
And same with "Audio", give a scroll down options of the different sound tracks.

This also goes for BluRay and UHD-discs as well. Instead of the pop up menu with subs and audio, I get a very fast and efficient scroll menu selecting subs and audio tracks.

Pressing the "[email protected]"-button on the remote, takes me to "My app" on the player.
And the "Repeat" button repeats current chapter on a disc, but I see no use of that function, yet.

Probably the best 5$ I've spent this summer.

That's interesting...I wonder if it will come to the US eventually. Sony is telling me they don't plan on releasing a dedicated player anytime soon, as they're concentrating on their Ultra service.

That didn't work for me. I either have to turn off HDMI Deep Color on the LG G6 OLED HDMI input I'm running the player on or I can leave it on but then it is a combination of settings in the player that have to be changed whether you're watching something in 4K or HD.

Either way the color format has to be set to YCBR 4:4:4.

When watching 4K Netflix Movie Frame (24Fs) has to be turned to Auto.

When watching HD Netflix Movie Fram (24Fs) has to be turned to off.

It took me about an hour of playing around with settings to get this to work.

Maybe a flaw in the latest software on the player? I don't know. But either way a major inconvenience.

Amazon App plays fine without making any changes.
I'm curious. Why don't you just use the native apps on the tv? That's what I do and they play perfectly.

I presume you are replying to @marine92104 as all the apos on both my TV and the K8500 are working without issue.

Though one advantage to using the Netflix app on the K8500 is that it outputs Dolby Digital Plus which my TV doesn't.
