Remuxing to m2ts can be a bit of a fiddle because tsMuxer does not recognize Atmos, but there are other ways to do it.
Tried it, still no go on the k8500

I have a non hdcp 2.2 receivers, a projector and im about to buy a 4K TV. I plan to plug the Samsung directly to the TV or use the dual hdmi cable method.

How do i connect the Samsung to the projector without having to swap HDMI cables? Is there a splitter that can handle 4k and 1080p concurrently (from the splitter one cable to 4K TV and other to Pre/pro). Is there anyone here that has a similar setup, i'll be grateful to know how you handled it.

Thanks
I've never used one, but there are active HDMI switches available. I see some at Amazon for less than $50. The obvious down side is an additional remote, but it's better than swapping cables.

This isn't intended as a recommendation, but it might serve as a starting point for further research.

I just got the sammy player together with a fury integral to go to my jvc 4910 projector. Any tips on what settings to use on them. They come tomorrow. The way i believe it should work is sammy player to fury to marantz processor to projector. I tried the fury with a fire tv and could only get it to work with the fury between the fire tv and receiver.

I'm considering buying the K8500 used from my sibling (they purchased an OPPO 203) for a good price for my new OLED UHD display. I likely would only play UHD discs on it only. For apps, I would use the streaming apps already installed on the OLED and for any other media files (HRA music, 1080P MKV/M2TS) I would continue to use my OPPO 103D. My question is would it be worth it for me to purchase the used K8500 considering my planned usage for it, or should I go with a different UHD disc player? Thanks!

The picture quality of this player is gorgeous. That being said I'd call it a low end device as it doesn't have some advanced features like SACD or dvd-a that your oppo does.

That said if you don't care about that get it.

Unless you're going to invest heavily in a 4K BD library the K8500 will suffice. For a 1st gen unit, it does a pretty good job. I would have waited for 2nd gen except I got a great price on one. I'll probably replace it with the Sony x800 or one of the new Panasonics when they are released. As I will mostly purchase Ultra 4K discs from now on, I think a better player would be advised. Too many little niggles with HDMI with the Sammy.

I'm having a weird audio problem. I have an older Onkyo AVR that does not have HDCP 2.2 or Atmos/DTS:X, but it can handle DTS-HD MA just fine. The problem is, with the UBD-K8500, the DTS-HD MA stops working after a few minutes, usually when it goes from the opening screen to the actual movie, and would have to "re lock" on the HDMI audio, the AVR goes to "No Signal" and stays that way until I reboot the UBD-K8500, and then it works again. If I output DTS from the UBD-K8500, it's fine, and the AVR is definitely decoding DTS-HD MA, as it shows up at "DTS-HD MSTR" on the AVR for a couple of scenes, and then stops working.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a player or AVR issue. My AVR just went in for an HDMI board recall, but it seems to work with other HDMI sources now, and it works fine with DTS or DD over optical from the UBD-K8500 through the TV or anything else (Roku, HTPC, TiVo, other TiVo, Nintendo, other Nintendo, etc).

Haven't had and issues with mine. Granted only had it a day. Why do you say only if you don't invest in 4K? It's a 4K player. Are you referring to the fact that it doesn't do DV?

Actually, what I said was "only if you're going to invest heavily in a 4K Library. If you're just going to buy a handful of 4K discs, it doesn't make much sense to buy an Oppo 203 or Pana 900, does it?

Like I also said, it's a pretty good player. I never said it's a bad player but they do have issues. You will find something that doesn't play right or HDMI handshaking problems sometime unless they fix it with firmware. Give it time...

It was not worth its original asking price IMO. But it was first and that counted for something at release.

Edit: PS. Nothing does DV yet. That's something that won't concern me as I am not replacing my TV, AVR or player just for DV.

Do you guys know what setting is the best to use in the picture menu? I've read many different things, some say user is the best and others say standard.

Standard is marginally more accurate than "User mode with all zeros". This was discussed on this thread recently, do a search to find it.

When I played Arrival 24FPS UHD disc, K8500 changed to 4:4:4. The only difference the HDMI Color Format setting makes is in the Menu screen. If set 4:4:4, the Menu is always in 4:4:4. If in AUTO, it could be in 4:2:2 or 4:2:0, so for those who have HDMI bandwidth issues on the Menu screen, it makes sense to leave it in AUTO.
I think it's worth editing the FIRST POST on this thread to make this very clear. At the moment it implies Auto or 4:4:4 are equivalent.

I was thinking I was going to order an alternative remote for this, but after only a couple days using it, I'm perfectly fine with it. The only thing I miss is a single tap button for subtitle toggling - but none of the alt remotes I could find have that either.
Thanks Ted,

I was never holding the button down, I'm used to pushing once for 1x, twice for 2x etc.

So I swapped the cable out from a Redmere cable to an AmazonBasics cable, restarted the UBD-K8500, and now it seems to be working OK, I've gotten through several minutes of The Revenant with DTS-HD MA 7.1 running. This is completely different from the behavior of the UBD-K8500 before swapping the cable out, where it wouldn't get 30 seconds of DTS-HD MA. The UBD-K8500 seems to be very picky about it's audio cable, as the Redmere cables have served me well for my entire setup when I had 1080p, and still serve me very well for the entirety of the 1080p side of my current setup (Nintendo, 2 TiVos, HTPC, DVDO EDGE).

Any HDMI cable should work for the audio. Are you sure you have the Redmere cables running in the correct direction?

Yup, they are running in the right direction. I have used Redmere cables successfully for several years with 1080p, my previous setup with a 60" 1080p TV was done entirely with Redmere. They only support HDMI 1.4 AFAIK, and I don't use them on the 4k side of my setup (just a Roku and the UDP-K8500's video connection) but nonetheless, it doesn't seem to like the cable for DTS-HD MA. It works fine for DTS or lower formats. Now that I know what the issue is, I'll treat the audio connection as part of the 4k side of my setup, even though it's technically only HDMI 1.4. I'll have to pick up some more Amazonbasics cables and just use those, as I've had good luck with them, but a lot of problems with off-brand/unmarked HDMI cables that I had laying around on the HDMI 2.0 side of my setup.

You do NOT want to use any of the apps on this thing- the UI and apps are a mess. It's a decent UHD-BD player, although if I were buying today, I'd probably buy the UDP-203 instead. This thing was the only one out when I got it.

No, but a Chromecast Ultra does.

You sir rock! I have the premium monoprice certified cable, was using 4:4:4 instead of "Auto", & I was having to wait upwards of 5 minutes to have the menu show when booting up the TV at the same time. Now with "Auto", instead of 4:4:4 it shows the menu screen instantly I start the TV & Blu-ray player. Wish I knew & did this eight months ago. Thank you!

The Amazon app works just fine and does great HDR if you haven't invested in Roku or something else.

Apps are fine on this. I thought the Oppo doesn't have any apps at all

Have any of the Oppo blu rays had any streaming apps?
