It appears your suggestion of the actual discs being the cause might be the right answer.
Bad discs happen. I went through 3 dead Deadpool discs before finding #4 that worked on this player.

The error I got was also the "does not meet spec" error. However, if every disc has that error, I doubt it is the disc.

When I get the message, that's all it says. "This disc does not meet specifications." I tried to get it to come up today but no luck. Every single UHD disc I played gave me the, "Cannot read this Disc. Try the Following." message.

Hey guys I've been the owner of this player for about a year, little if no problems...However after the most recent update I'm having a problem with the screen scrambling during the previews, not a scratched disc type thing because most are brand new, it actually scrambles the previews, once the actual movie starts playing all is well. Anybody else with this problem? I've also noticed a little more judder then usual

The only thing I noticed that your note reminded me of was when i tried to play back X-Men:AoA. The bottom of the main menu screen was scrambled. Picking buttons was difficult. You couldn't even pick a scene to navigate to ... it was like the Java behind the scenes was corrupted. I cleaned the disc - same issue. I came back about an hour later and tried it again and the player decided it liked the disc after all. Oddest thing I've seen with this player.

I have had this player since it came out and I have had no problems with it what so ever. But I'm always moving equipment in and out of my system I have sold the K8500 and replaced it with the Sony X800. Right out of the box the Sony had a issue with my in wall 15' 4k cable. So for the short term I'm using a 6' 4k cable until the new one I ordered comes in. Not 100% sure this is the right move and I hope the new HDMI cable is good.

My set up: Samsung UN82nu8000 LED TV, Marantz SR7012, Emotiva XPA3, Sony UBP-X800
Roku 4k Premier, Panamax MR4000, 2 Marantz MA-500U, Klipsch RB81II (L/R),
RC62II (center), R-1650-W (surrounds), RB61II (Rear Surrounds),
Monoprice 6.5" in ceiling speaker (top front/rear), Two Klipsch R-10SW subwoofer

It's actually happening across the entire TV while the previews are playing, not just in one area. Sometimes it does it, some times it doesn't. Of course it didn't start happening until the last update, go figure. But I've had zero of the other problems I've read about on here. I might just try unplugging it for a bit and plugging back in. Are some of these other uhd players out now actually better players? There so much more expensive!

Don't shoot the messenger....
Every Samsung UHD player I had (and I went through 3) eventually went bad...whether it was a week/month/couple months.
I finally gave up and got the Panasonic. Yes, it was more $$, but it's been worth every penny.

If you're not using the player with a projector that requires special video processing of the HDR content, you should just hang on to what you've got until early 2019. By then the manufacturers should've all switched to HDMI 2.1, and the players will offer new features which the current batch of players do not support.

I'm not shooting the messenger, but the other side must stated too. I have owned 2 players since they came out, and have not had any problems whatsoever. One of them is connected to a Samsung K8000, and the other to a Hisense Q8.

No projector here, we have the Samsung ks8500 TV, I feel over all lucky I haven't had some of the other issues I've seen on here, I'm just hoping our early investment into Samsung and HDR doesn't get beat out by dolby vision since the Samsung TVs don't support it. Brings back horrible memories of the HD players and discs getting beat out by Blu Ray.....With this happening right after an update I'm sure it's a firmware glitch........ I hope!!

Never got error reports like that, only about 3 4K discs that would vibrate and make mechanical noise while playing. Do to the number of reports here on the same I though maybe this player was a bit temperamental with less than perfect discs. No other players to compare those discs on?

No experience to speak from but do have to be considerate of the fact that the Samy players are around the cheapest available. You get what you pay for sometimes.

Connection to AVR

If you connect your player to your AVR receiver, do you need to set anything in the Sound option on the 4K player. I see it has PCM and Bitsteam. I am running an HDMI for the HDMI 1 output on the player to my 4K TV and HDMI 2 for the sound to go through the receiver. I am having sound problems and don't know if it is the receiver or the player.

Set the player to BITSTREAM UNPROCESSED. Additional info can be found on the first posts in this thread.

Picked one of these up and I wish I had read the fine print first. It looks like there's no way to get it to play TrueHD or Atmos content that isn't on an actual disc. Not via USB, not via DLNA, not via Plex. Seems this is an industry thing: they really don't want us playing lossless content except on physical media. My last setup let me entertain myself endlessly with 1080p/DTS-MA demos in a USB AVCHD volume. Are those days over in the 4K/HDR/Atmos world?

The Oppo 203 plays DTS:X and Atmos fine from media files, whether that is USB or Network, so it isn't an industry thing it is just a Samsung, Panasonic, Sony thing.

Thanks. My last Oppo gadget made me happy, many years ago. But the 203 is a little spendy. I'm thinking it's time to investigate a transition from Plex to Kodi by way of the Nvidia Shield.

hi guys! I'm a newbie here! I'm looking for some help. Last week i decide to replace my good old Samsung H6500 with K8500. Everything seems good but yesterday i had a lot of troubles when i tryed to play mkv files from my external drive. I don't understand why, but when i play a movie with DTS audio (i mean DTS! Not DTS-HD Master) i have no sound, just video. Don't understand why, Dolby digital, dolby digital + ecc works fine. I made a lot of try:

- movie with 2 audio track, one dolby digital, the other one DTS -> they works both
- same movie with 2 audio track, both DTS -> NO SOUNDS
- same movie with 1 audio track DTS -> It seems it works, but then, audio went off after 20 minutes, and i saw something like "Cinavia: Error Code 3".

i don't understand, i watched these movies a lot of times using H6500 without issues, how is it possible to can't reproduce DTS via USB? There's someone who had same issue? Can i solve this?

thanks! And sorry for my bad english!

Explanation
The audio track of the video that you are playing contains a Cinavia code indicating that it is an unauthorized copy of professionally-produced content.
Recommendations
If the video that you are playing is a professionally produced video (such as a movie or television show), you will need to obtain a copy that was made with the permission of the copyright owner.
If the video that you are playing is a home movie or other personal recording that includes some professionally produced content (including the audio track of a professionally produced video), to play your recording without muting you may either:
Pause the video, wait 30 seconds for the audio to be un-muted, then skip over those portions where the professionally produced material is used and continue playing the rest of the video, or
Pause the video, wait 30 seconds for the audio to be un-muted, then play video from a different optical disc for at least 10 minutes before continuing playback of this video.

yes, i know what that error means. This actually means that who buy K8500 it is forced to play original bluray disc? No MKV with DTS audio? Is that right?

Anyone with a BD player in the last 5 years has been "forced" to not play pirated content.

Yes, if K8500 detects it, it won't play it. Use K8500 to play UHD discs only. Keep your old BD player for anything else.

That is not true. Many 3 year older BD players will happily play any discs. Maybe in the last 2 years things change.

well..i had a samsung h6500 before k8500 (it is a 2014 model, just 3 years ago) and that bd player was able to reproduce the same movies that i can't now with 8500. However, i don't want to have problem on this forum about pirated content (i buy a lot of bluray, limited series etc), i just want to know if you guys have the same issues with DTS audio from mkv file. What i don't understand is (example) if i play TRAINSPOTTING with Audio tracks both (italian) dolby and (english) DTS i can watch the movie, if i re-mux the same file, leaving just (english) DTS i have audio for 20 minutes and then Error Cinavia Code 3, if i re-mux again the same movie with 2 DTS tracks (italian - english) i have no audio since the beginning of the film with both tracks. Is that normal? if it something related to pirated content i think that i couldn't have 3 different situations with the SAME file. There's someone who can confirm my issue? Or, at least, can help me?

thanks a lot, and sorry once again about my english

K8500 cannot, but there are quite a few devices that can play local files with ATMOS and lossless audio. Nvidia Shield, Minix U1, Zidoo X9S, Mi Box.

mmh, unfortunately i was forced to buy K8500, because VGA of the H6500 is gone..the bd player became too hot after 30 minutes of streaming on NowTv, and then died. Now if i try to plug in, it works, but i have no video...so nothing to do with that.

Well, you can wiki Cinavia and look up what it does. The only way is use a player that does not support Cinavia. K8500, unlike Android boxes, does support Cinavia, so you cannot play the audio watermarked by Cinavia. Even if you rip your own original disc, you will run into the same Cinavia errors when playback on K8500.
