Tried switching audio tracks to get TrueHD or DTS-MA from files on the hard drive connected via USB. No luck.

I have a K8500 that feeds into a Denon 4300H AVR and from there to a projector and 4KTV. I've been experiencing a problem and I'm trying to decide if it's being caused by the BR player or the AVR. When watching either movies (standard blu rays so far) or listening to CDs (yes, I know I'm old school), usually about 5 minutes in there's about a 3-5 second pause. For movies, the screen goes blank and there's no sound. When things come back on it starts at the spot it skipped to. Then for the rest of the movie I have no issues. It's usually just one time and that's it. Same thing happens when listening to CDs. For music sometimes it happens in the beginning of a couple of songs on the disc. Music stops and then comes back on after a few seconds. Has anyone had any similar issues like this with the K8500?

It works for me at least with my HW-K950 soundbar.

The file in question has to have 2 audio tracks in it,
otherwise the option to switch audio isn't there.

Update:
ATMOS works now without switching.
Doesn't even show the "unsupported" message
You just need to make the ATMOS track in first place and for example a DD5.1 track in second place.
So like this :
1)video
2)Atmos
3)DD5.1

What firmware are you running? Mine says it's updated to the latest(or at least it did a couple days ago). Also, were you able to get ATMOS from a file on an external hard drive connected to the USB port? When I try to play a DTS-MA track it only gives me DTS and when I try ATMOS I get no sound at all.

If I put a Blu-ray or 4K UHD disc in the player I get DTS-MA and ATMOS, but not when I connect an external drive to the USB port in front.

I believe it's a handshake issue. I experienced the very same thing with a friend's setup (same Denon, connected to two displays, feeding the signal from a UBD-K8500). He eliminated the issue by purchasing a separate BDP for the projector.

I had that and it got worse. Turned out to be my hdmi cable went bad, which I didn't know they could. Just try switching cables first.

Firmware 3113.5
Using front USB Harddrive

I made a mistake in the order in the previous post,
this is the correct order within the mkv :

1) Video
2) DD5.1 - AC-3 -----> default track flag --> Yes - Forced Track Flag --> No
3) ATMOS -----> default track flag --> Determine automatically - Forced Track Flag --> No

In this order you don't get the "unsupported media" message anymore
(Probably because the DD5.1 track is the first audio track
the UBD-K8500 sees and therefore doesn't give the message )
Also in this case, the DD5.1 is the standard track, but as it starts playing you immediately get the ATMOS track
( don't ask me why, LOL ) Even if you switch the track to the ATMOS track with the remote, nothing happens and if you then switch back to the DD5.1 track nothing happens as well.
So basically you have 2 tracks, but it plays only one of them (The ATMOS track)

Too bad the blue ATMOS light doesn't light up on my HW-K950 and also no ATMOS message on the display.
But it's definitely ATMOS sound, all upfiring speakers work.

Thanks for all the info, soxbrother. Maybe I should just convince you to sell me your player.

I'm going to mess around with it later tonight and see if I have any luck. Thanks again.

Every one's ubd-k8500 is the same.
So it should work if you edit the mkv like I did.

About the firmware, I just realised that I've posted the firmware version of my HW-K950 LOL

Was wondering about that. Since you don't have your location under your avatar, thought maybe you were in a far off land with weird FW updates!

Buzzing sound when playing UHD discs

Has anyone else had any problems with this player making a buzzing sound, sorta like an electric razor, when inserting and playing a 4K UHD disc?

Well, I tried switching the tracks just like you described and when I went from DD to Atmos I got a message saying the format was unsupported and when I went from DTS to DTS-MA it still only gave me the DTS track. For the life of me I can't figure out why it's not working for me the way it is for you. I have the audio set to Bitstream...is there anything else in the setup menu that might be causing this? So frustrated.

Yes, quite a few including myself.
A defect in the disc itself, off center, bad balance, something.
Get a different disc, I've known a few here that had to exchange a title more than once before they got one that ran silently.

Thanks. It kind of feels like it might be a handshake issue, but I don't want to deal with 2 blu ray players when I really just watch on the projector. I have a Panny standard blu ray player that I might try to see if I have issues with that. It's just funny that it doesn't happen all the time. Watched the first 3 Jason Bourne movies over the weekend and no issues.

No sound from disk player

I have a Denon S5720W. I have a Samsung 4K K8500 blu-ray player and an LG OLED E6. I have the HDMI 1 on the 4K player going to the Tv. I have the HDMI 2 (audio) going to the Blu-ray input on the Denon Receiver and I get no sound on the receiver. I get picture on the tv fine. I select Blu-ray input on the Receiver but get no sound.
The Samsung 4k player does have a sound setting which is either PCM or Bitstream (Unprocessed or Bitstream Re-endoced). None of these work. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Try turning your AVR off and on again. If audio is still not restored, I would suggest you reset the player, then select BITSTREAM UNPROCESSED in the sound setup menu after selecting HDMI 2 as the sole audio output.

Just to add to what @Rudy1 said above, make sure to post all your settings next time so we don't have to go through them one by one.

Here are my audio settings using the dual HDMI method...

Digital Output (Unprocessed) = Bitstream
PCM Downsampling = Off
Dynamic Range Control = Off
Downmixing Mode = Surround Comp.
DTS Neo:6 Mode = Off
Audio Sync = 0 ms
HDMI Audio Output = Auto

Make sure the HDMI Audio Output is set to Auto or HDMI 2 otherwise it won't play sound out of your AVR if you have it set to HDMI 1.

Failing that I would suggest it has something to do with your Denon Receiver so you might want to post in the thread specific to your AVR or do a Google search for "denon no sound" which returns a bunch of hits including some suggesting that you need to make sure you have configured your input settings in your AVR appropriately... while others suggested this is common for the Denons, while one even suggested it had something to do with dust collecting in his Receiver. Soup to nuts!

I know on my Marantz I have to specify each input so that when I press the Blu-Ray button for example, it knows that it is hooked up to specific HDMI cable (versus component or SPDIF) so probably something similar for the Denons.

I'm getting a little fed up with Samsung. My unit was working flawlessly until I updated to the 1011 firmware. The morning of I was able to play UHD disks no problem. The same day, after the update, my player would no longer play UHD. It will play DVD and normal bluray, but when ever I try to watch a UHD movie it comes up with two errors. Half the time it says the disk is unreadable and that it needs to be cleaned. The other half of the time the error is that it is not the correct format. I was able to watch every single movie I own with no problems and now not a single one will work.

I called Samsung and jumped through all the hoops. They finally told me I could send it in for repair. I mailed it in and a few days later they called my and said it would be $110 to fix it. I was a little upset but ok, whatever. I asked the person what was wrong with it so I could make sure they understood the issue before I paid to have it fixed . She said that I could call the service center and get that information. I tried for three days but they would never answer or call me back. So I finally call back Samsung and tell them to go ahead and fix it. One hour later I got an email that it was fixed and being send for delivery. Unfortunately in the email was the diagnosis/trouble card. They stated that the issue was blurred/noisy picture. I called Samsung back immediately and told them that was not at all the problem and I don't believe they fixed it. I was assured that they test the unit completely before sending it back. I've heard that before.

So tonight I get it back, hook it up, and viola! Same damn problem. All they did was replace the logic board. They fixed an imaginary problem. They didn't test it. They didn't do jack except charge me for maybe changing out the logic board. I guess the only thing I can do is go back to Samsung and complain but man this is getting old.

Any advice?
This is why I never conduct this sort of business via a telephone call. I always do so in writing...either via email or via chat. Especially when dealing with the drones that often staff customer support centers.

I would suggest you contact your credit card company and dispute the charge...in writing. Make sure they understand you believe you've been a victim of fraud...they claimed they repaired the unit, and it is still doing the same thing so you're not paying for the service. The UBD-K8500 can be found new for just a few dollars more than they charged you for "repairing" it, so your next move should be based on that fact.

Never assume that a firmware update is the sole cause of any problem you may suddenly start having with your AV equipment. When firmware updates cause problems, they tend to do so for all operators of that particular piece of equipment...not just a handful here and there. If your equipment starts to act up after a firmware update, first reset the offending unit to factory defaults, and disconnect it from the power source for an hour. Then start the setup process over again and check to see if you're still having the same problem. If it is, do a search online for the problem to see if others have come across it and to find a potential solution. Only after exhausting all means of self-help should you contact a company's tech support center. In writing.

How many postings have I seen over various postings re HDMI cable good today, bad tomorrow.
Corrosion, pinched wires, misaligned contacts, etc - any number of things can go wrong.
When all else fails direct to the TV and see if it now works.

Well, I did everything you mentioned and more from the troubleshooting standpoint. Contacting Samsung was definitely the last resort. I did just find the online chat and email options that I will likely use in the future. I called them back and they have issues another repair ticket. They wanted to charge me shipping again but I was able to talk them out of that. This time I will also add on a written statement of the problem. Hopefully this can be resolved. I'll keep the charge dispute in my back pocket though.

The only thing I could do was tell the Amazon rep. that if there wasn't an Amazon app available by the end of the trial period, we would not continue our subscription. No doubt this will prompt Amazon to provide that app.

They are having a laugh. Samsung provides the platform. It's up to Amazon's developers, and Netflix's developers, and everyone else's developers, to write an app for that platform.

Amazon are flat out lying to you. They have already written an app. It exists. Many of us use it. Their decision not to make it available in your country is their own doing, and NOTHING to do with Samsung.

I'd complain to Amazon customer services about that lie. They should have confessed to you that they have made a commercial decision not to make it available in your country, instead of lying and saying that the manufacturer, who isn't responsible, hadn't provided something.

I did not read every post obviously. Way too many. So as of today, this thing is pretty cheap relative to its initial release price. Is this worth the purchase today?

I went through exactly the same routine a few months ago, shortly after Amazon became available to Canadians. The conversations were exactly the same, almost verbatim, as they were a few days ago-- the blame game.

AFAICT, there are other devices built for the Canadian market that do indeed have that Amazon app., including, ironically, Samsung TVs and smart phones, as well as our newly-acquired Shield TV. The latter is the device on which we're watching the Amazon trial which, so far anyway, appears to be worth the subscription price.

I don't know how many K8500s have been sold in Canada (maybe it was just a hand full), so I don't know how many additional subscriptions Amazon would get if they made their app available to Canadian K8500 owners. Samsung certainly does. Therefore, I can't judge if this a commercial decision or a pure-laziness decision, but it certainly is a conscious, deliberate snub to Canadian K8500 owners.

BTW, is the Amazon app available to the 9500 and other brands of UHD BD players owned by Canadians?

Thanks.
