SAL1950, thank you for your tip on my av configuration this helped me to get the TruHD & DTS-MA showing on my AVR screen again, heres how i did it but it brought other issues, hopefully yous can help me understand.

So i went into av settings and changed away from current 7.2.2 setup to the closest 5.2 setup there was on the amp options. Now this closest 5.2 setup only had options for front and center bi-amped and two rears as normal, problem i have is none of my speakers are bi-amped, but my centre-fronts and rear backs are all bi-wired and my side wall speakers are single wired as is my front height atmos kef r50s. (bare with me)

So now playing a TruHD or DTS-MA soundtrack the avr pics up the proper name now which i like but instead of the normal 5.2 working i am getting sound from every speaker bar my right rea surround, i'm even getting sound from the atmos speakers. No idea whats going on but the sound was much better than the Dolby surround and Neo-X the avr jumps to when i leave it on the 7.2.2 option.

Please help me understand if possible.

GALONZO, you say the Dolby surround upmixing is still giving me the uncompressed sountrack = to TruHD & DTS-MA, then why does it not sound as bold and prominent?

Would yous advise i just stuck to the upmixing D-surround = TruHD & NEO-X = DTS-MA or should i try and sort it so only 5.2 speakers work and amp says the proper name for soundtrack.

T2 movie was in 6.1 DTS-MA how does that work on a 5.2 setup?

Still learning guys so i'm sorry for boring you with my silly problems.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, it does sound like some strange things are going on in your receiver due to the current configuration. If you've gone back to a 5.2 setup, (.2 as in two subwoofers) there should be no output at all from your overhead speakers. I don't have cue to try and lead you to a solution, I run a Marantz 7703 pre/pro. I think your best bet is to pose this queston on a thread dedicated to Pioneer receiver users where folks with the knowledge to help might be reading.
Best of luck

Ok looks like the first HDR10+ movies are out now, has anyone tested the movies on our beloved K8500 yet? I have the K8500 and the Samsung MU8000 and someone confirmed that the MU8000 is able to show HDR10+ with a Panny 820.

Now I’m curious if the K8500 will play and show the HDR10+ badge.

Ordered up 2 Samsung Blu-ray players for my kids for Christmas. One turned out to be defective.
While looking for a replacement, Samsung Dealer says he's sold out, and when he tried to re-order, he was told Samsung is no longer going to be manufacturing Blu-ray players!

So, that has nothing to do with the fact that there are no UBD-N#### players.

N=2018

For the whole of 2018 none of us noticed that Samsung didn't create any UBD-N#### player. N isn't for 2019.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but has anyone done a comparison between the current UHD playback functionality of the Xbox One X vs the UBD-K8500? I have both and trying to decide if I'm really losing anything by selling the UBD-K8500. I'm going to try the same disc in both players and take a look, but not able to do a great side by side test.

Will the X-Box One X do 3D playback, versus the UBD-K8500 ?

Harry Potter Audio Help

I purchased the Harry Potter 4K disc set this summer as a Xmas gift to the fam. We tried watching #1 and I got picture and audio through the menus until I hit “play movie” I then got picture and no audio. I am splitting audio from hdmi2 to my onkyo avr which is set up for Dolby atmos. When I hit play, the receiver clicks and “pcm” shows up on the display.

Any help is appreciated!

@brilithos , the HP UHD disks are in DTS:X, not Atmos, so you should make sure your AVR supports this for the immersive soundtrack.

I had the same problem with the same collection on an Onkyo tx-sr444. As far as I can tell, there is no other "normal" audio track on the disc other than the DTS:X track (ie. there is a descriptive audio track and other languages). I changed the Samsung player to output PCM instead of bitstream and that fixed the issue... then I upgraded my receiver

Yes, if you AVR is that old.

A DTS:X Master Audio track is backwards-compatible with an inner DTS-HD Master Audio track, and if that's too modern for you, that track too is backwards-compatible with a 1990's DVD-style lossy DTS inner track. Like Russian dolls.

Three generations of audio formats in a single track. Your AVR will just "see" the best one it can decode. It's very good

My avr, the Onkyo TX-SR444 does Dolby Atmos, just not DTS:X. However, the only solution I have is to switch the K8500’s audio output to bitstream “processed” rather than uncompressed. I might need to begin the search for a new AVR... 😁

The last run of the M8500's should be out in the first quarter of 2019. I'm told that there are no plans for the manufacture of new models, though it's been reported that John Archer was told otherwise by his contacts at Samsung. We will just have to wait and see.

Kalaidascape (sp) has the best cloud based quality as they are normally 1:1 disc rips, though you need to use their expensive proprietary hardware. If their service goes under or you lose your internet tether, the purchased files are only accessible if you also own the equivalent disc that must be placed in the unit's disc drive to unlock the digital file using the disc keys. Not exactly user friendly due to studio licencing agreements.

VUDU has some of the better lossy streaming files for movies if you get their highest quality choice... however... your best bet is still Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray discs for optimal, higher bitrate video and lossless audio quality.

AMEN, try to get Atmos on the wire, few options I'm aware of.

In the US Redbox is running some experimental 4k box rentals, hope it is successful, otherwise we'll have to buy any 4k movie discs we'd like to view.

Not many people seem interested in quality today.

@kit77 , Atmos is working for me for Jack Ryan. If you're getting Atmos from disks, your settings are good; you need to find the UHD version of the show in order to get Atmos, though.
MALICIOUS ONE and Musician like this.

Main: UN78HU9000/SEK-3500 | X4500H (Klipsch/HSU 5.1.4) | UDP-203 (fw 65-0131) | TiVo Bolt | Shield
2nd: UN65JS9500 | LG LAS855M | UBD-K8500 | Chromecast Ultra | TiVo Mini | Roku P+
3rd: 65P-F1 | Klipsch HDT-SB3 | UBP-X700 | Tivo Roamio | AppleTV4K
FS - Hot Fuzz and other UHD Digital codes (and some HD codes)

Early on in this thread I saw talk about needing to boost your TV’s gamma by 2 when viewing 4K discs on this. Is this still the case or was this debunked or fixed with firmware?

Living Room
Samsung 65JS8500
Onkyo NR-737
Onkyo SKF-4800 Fronts w/ HTP-980 Surrounds & Center and Klipsch R-12SW
Bedroom
Samsung 55JS8500 w/ Yamaha YAS-105 Soundbar

Probably depends on your TVs Nit level. I have the HU9000 + SEK-3500U, now in my wife's Loft, that is putting out around 350 Nits HDR, versus my newer KS9800 clocking well over 1000 Nits. The older set may need boosting, but since wife is a 3D nut, instead of 4K, no need of a boost. My KS9800 no such problem.

UN65KS9800 - Mine
UN65HU9000 + SEK-3500U / UN75JU7100 / UN55HU7250 with SEK-3500U in UJS9000 Mod Mode / UN40J5200AF / HiSense 40H5507 - Wife's
UN55NU8000 X 2 - my 2 kids families (or should I say adults?)
