What does 1113 include?
Are you sure about that Firmware version (1113)?

There are multiple posts In the last couple of weeks alone talking about 1015 being the latest version published in April 2018 which is the latest available for download on Samsung’s website (see thumbnail 1) which also concurs with what I have on my UBD-K8500 (see thumbnail 2).

I just tried the Menu >> Settings >> Support >> Software Update option and was told “There are no new updates for you at the moment”.

As for what any updates from Samsung include, they are pretty close-lipped about that. 🤫

Yes, 1113.x it was released in mid Dec.. If you Google 8500 and 1113 it appears to fix an error when loading certain disks, just wondering if it does anything else.
I think I saw a link to download it to USB if it didn't get pushed.

Samsung pretty much never provides details of what any firmware fixes. Their "release notes" are a complete joke, and are the same general boilerplate text from every single firmware release.
Sometimes people will spent an hour in an online chat with Samsung reps, and come away with the same boilerplate notes, and be excited because they've been told those are the secret release notes specific to that firmware version! But they are not.

I've googled 8500 and 1113. I got 9,613.
Then, I got links to the Samsung community forum, with samsung customers, speculating amongst themselves, about what firmware v1113 for the M8500, not our K8500 which we have, might be for.

So in summary:
  • Firmware v1113 is only for the M8500 which is a different model entirely. Samsung haven't told anyone what is does. People are concluding that it fixes some discs, based on those discs failing before and working afterwards (fair enough, but Samsung will NOT put that in their release notes).
  • You already have the latest firmware for your K8500. There has not been a recent update, or any update before recent! Samsung will not put anything meaningful in their release notes.

Talking Samsung 4K Blu-Ray player slow response and other probs K8500 etc

Latest firmware on everything, of course.

Just picked up a used KM85c but this applies to UMD-K8500 as well. Identical units.

Experienced the 3-4 sec blank screen thing on an old non bluray dvd so did reset and that cured it.

Still experienced 2-3 sec response delay when, for example, clicking the remote's FF arrow to go to next track.

Also experienced 2-3 sec lip sync delay after hitting play/pause, and then play/pause again to restart play.

Discovered that if I do reset and DO NOT ACCEPT SMART HUB - that is I do not check the accept box, but choose next arrow and choose skip.(resulting home screen only diff is no apps)(may need to power off and power on to get it)(can then access settings, but I leave everything at defaults.)

ALL THESE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY.
Now get virtually instantaneous response.

I have seen similar reported delays on a 9700 so probably applies to all Samsung blu-ray players.

This is no prob for me since I use my 4K Roku Premiere+ (4630X) to do all my streaming.

"reset" here means press square stop button on player unit (NOT remote) and hold for 8 sec and it will start to go through the reset cycle - takes a minute or so - be patient!!!

Darn fine BR 4K/HDR player for $75!!!
TV is new Vizio V436-G1 w HDR10
HDMI cables are $15 Monster 21Gig.
Audio is optical from TV to LG soundbar.

I have posted this discovery on the sammy forums.

1113 also for the M9500 as well. Definitely NOT for the K8500

What is the difference between m8500 and k8500?
Will the m8500 show vudu movies in 3d?
My k8500 just goes to black screen when trying to play 3d from vudu!

The principle difference between the k and m 8500 is the k is a 1st gen with split HDMI capability. The m only has a single and is newer, was lower priced as I remember and has a much improved remote.

I doubt we will ever see another update for the k as I am sure it's firmware is vastly different than the m?

The k's specs say that it is a 2d and 3d player. The m specs do not mention 3d capability.

I didn't even know you could play 3d with vudu. Here is a link to the compatibility list/thread:

Apparently after much research the m8500 is not 3d?
So the last 3d bluray samsung made was the k8500 so why won't vudu support it?
Has anyone gotten 3d to work from vudu thru their blu ray player, it works fine thru the TV but then I only get 5.1 sound

Eh?
The K8500 was the 2016 model (4 years old). K=2016
The M8500 was the 2017 model (3 years old). M=2017.

If you want to know the differences between two products, this thread isn't best place for it sorry.

Can't ask your question about the America-only Vudu streaming service, and there are a million other devices other than 4K Blu-ray players which are far more suitable for streaming services in any case. I doubt that buying a 3-year-old discontinued 4K blu-ray player from a manufacturer who has abandoned the format completely, is going to be the best way forward.

If you want 3D Vudu, why not get a Roku or something like that - there are threads for those.

  • 3D is pretty much dead.
  • Vudu is America-only.
  • Neither are related to playing back 4K Blu-ray discs on the 2016 model Samsung K8500 player, so off-topic for this thread.

Funny, any of my 4K discs I buy that the wife likes, she immediately goes looking for the 3D Version. Hence, hope the K8500 keeps on working.
Also can't replace the JU7100 either for the same 3D reason.

I don't watch VUDU - the bulk of my viewing is from Satellite, followed by Netflix, Amazon, and with a little YouTube thrown in. Plus the odd 4K movie here and there.

Ok, now I'm bowing out, because this isn't productive and you are either willfully ignoring what I'm saying or you are just arguing because you are unwilling to admit you misunderstood what I was saying.

Didn't mean to upset the cart.

My HU9000 and JS9500 both stream 3D from Vudu.
I found an Oppo 103D at a great price that Vudu claims will stream 3D.
I am a 3D fan!!!

Great. That link quotes Netflix as saying "We’ve heard the feedback loud and clear — members can now control whether or not they see autoplay previews on Netflix."

"loud and clear" is such a massive lie. That's why it took them FIVE YEARS to listen!

At least it's finally over!

Has anyone else done this and seen correction of lip sync issues?

Going out a limb I would say other than him, none of us have had to go this route.

Speaking for myself I have no lip sync issues and have never had to adjust the delay on my Receiver.

Lip sync isssues can also be caused by the TV you are using.

You really didn’t give us much information about your own setup to go on but often times lip sync issues can be resolved with a setting in your Receiver settings but I see you own a K950 sound bar (or at least you did at one time mentioned in this post) and not sure if you have a delay setting or not.

He was using a Vizio TV to LG soundbar.

And further sleuthing makes it appear as though your Samsung sound bar is hooked up to a Samsung KS series.

Doing a Search this Thread for “lip sync” reveals 367 posts discussing this issue and I see this isn’t the first time for you as evidenced by this post of yours dating back to December 3, 2018...

The quickest way to find out if this will work for you is to give it a shot by going into the Settings menu and select Smart Hub >> Reset Smart Hub.

Whats the harm, it will only take a second to find out... but don’t forget to heed his warning that you will lose access to the Smart Hub apps... unless you revert back I assume.

Note: One member recently updated his firmware and lost access to the Smart Hub altogether reported in the following post and he has been unable to regain access...

Smart Hub woes

...so before I did anything I would be inclined to take the sound bar out of the equation and plug the UBD-K8500 directly into your TV and use the TV speakers. If it works without exhibiting lip sync issues then you can probably rule out the UBD-K8500.

Good luck.

I discovered something else last night (remember that this KM85c/K8500 is new to me)(Its SN says refurb). I was thinking that resume playback was not working on this model so I stuck in my new The Martian 4K extended, went in a couple tracks, pause stop eject, back in, and it asked to resume playback. so, yes, resume playback works, dependent on the disc.

However... I then tried to stick in another BR disc and got the message that it was dirty and couldn't be read (or words to that effect). I got this reaction with most every disc I stuck in. I did run a disc cleaner but no difference. I then did a power off and unplugged player for 15 secs, and problem was cured - it would read all discs fine. So this model does have its problems/quirks but so far nothing I haven't been able to cure. Only exception is a BR Harry Potter DH2 that it gets stuck on reading the first preview. just black screen. That particular disc works fine on my old Sony S2500. I have ordered another disc of it and will see... (I have not tried to recreate the above prob. maybe sometime if bored...)

By the by, the lag and lip sync probs mentioned above were true for me on all my discs. Lip sync could be corrected by stop, and play. So if I really wanted Smart Hub I could have done that, but as I said, I use the Roku anyway for everything.

Enjoy!

Kris

I've got the blinking red. I tried the overnight unplug, didn't help. Now I've got to figure out what I want for a replacement, and probably lose the 3D capability as well for my few 3D discs. I have a 2015 Samsung TV, it was at the end of the 3D thing.

Get the Panasonic 420. It still supports 3D.

Not saying this will work for you but you might want to give this a try from page 54 of the manual in the troubleshooting section that describes how to perform a reset...
