I wish I could help. If you are already seeing a significant improvement my guess is you won't see another significant improvement. I didn't notice a difference between the images on my S1700 and the Oppo 93 but I am not up scaling and didn't do a side by side.

Thanks for the reply.
Just thought you might have noticed a difference when watching DVDs.
I have been wondering lately if the cost of an Oppo would be worth the bump in video performance on DVDs. I know they will never look as good as they do on a CRT but always looking for a little improvement.

I just tried a DVD. I have been watching the DVD NYPD Blue TV series on my Oppo 93. I didn't notice a difference with The Sony S1700, nothing jumped out at me. If I were to do a side to side comparison and do some pixel peeping perhaps I could see some differences.

Just thought I would mention, in case anyone is interested in this aspect. I had bought a S1700 to use for DLNA streaming which it will do with the Plex app in the Opera TV store, but my experience was that it wasn't that stable and it was slow.
I returned the S1700 and got the S3700 which does DLNA natively and it works quite well. You don't get all the eye candy as with the Plex app but if you just want to stream movies and tv shows it is great.

I don't have the S1700 connected to a network so I can't comment on that. I am more concerned about it trying to connect to a network. My Western Digital media player tries to connect every time I turn it on which takes an inordinate amount of time. I can't find a way to tell it that I am not interested. The S1700 forced me to go through a few network screens during initial set up before letting me discard the network settings. It takes about thirty seconds to boot as it looks for a Blu-ray disc and a USB device. I haven't noticed it looking for a network.

I have two S3700 connected with cat 5. I got tired of the 30 sec wait so I set them to quick start mode and when I turn them on they are up and ready in a couple seconds. (Obviously there is a wait to load if I insert a disk.) There is generally no lag connecting to the server unless there is a problem. Sometimes there is a couple second wait for the media to show up on the server because my media is on USB drives and they have to spin up.
I'm not to thrilled with the internet streaming performance. They work but they are slow and clunky.

Wow! Thanks! Boot is now almost instantaneous and reading the SSD connected to the USB port is also very quick.

Just my dos centavos here. I've had the S3700 for 2 years now and it's been a wonderful little BD player. A little slow to get started, but it works fine. Never froze once. I think the latest patches took care of that. If you don't need a 4K player, you can't do much better.

Is there a way to reset the HDMI on the S3700? I get no video/audio signal. I may have accidentally fried it while fiddling with a Raspberry pi attached to my AVR. I had to unplug the AVR to reset it, and now it works, but the blu-ray player is still not working properly.

Make sure the HDMI cable between the BDP and the AVR is plugged in all the way. Press firmly on both ends, perhaps wiggling them just a little.

If that doesn't help, try using a different HDMI input on the receiver. The connectors closest to the Monitor output often are more reliable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I left the unit unplugged for two days and now it works ok. Maybe when I re-plugged the HDMI it wasn't in all the way, but I think I checked multiple times with different cables and even directly to the TV. At least it works now.

Mine died a couple of months ago. I took it apart carefully, prior to sending it in, and removed my Blu ray. They sent me a new replacement player. Will be interesting to see how long this new one lasts. It's a secondary player in my bedroom and doesn't get a lot of action.

Was it just the Blu-ray mechanism? If you hadn't used the disc option and only opted for USB do you think it would still be working?

The unit was totally dead, it would not power on under any circumstances. I read online that this was a fairly common trait on these players, many owners experiencing the same thing.......... played fine the day before, would not power on at all the next day ....... dead

Same here.. It did power on, but froze at the blu ray logo.. And then you could not even turn it off.. dead as a dodo..

I now use the PS4 as replacement and like it really much because the Netflix and Amazon Prime video streaming is incredible fast.. I dont think I will go back to the BDP where it takes very long to load something.. I am surprised how well the ps4 does in that regard, and it is a good blu ray player too.. Also I get away with one less device..

I was literally two weeks away from my warranty expiring. Had Sony not sent me a new unit, I would have been looking for a replacement ......... by another manufacturer

Streaming Netflix with the 6700

Has anyone experienced audio problems while streaming Netflix with the 6700 ? Sometimes the volume goes very quiet and stutters. Not the dialog, the overall volume.

I'm trying to figure out if it's a Netflix problem or not.

The player works fine when playing Blu-rays, DVD's and CD's.

Thanks.

FWIW last year's firmware update cleaned up a few Network Services issues on my 6500.

Sony Blu Ray Settings Help !

Hi guys,

I was wondering if I can get some help with the Audio Settings on my Sony BDP-S6700. I have a 7.2.2 system and the Blu Ray is connected to my receiver which is a Marantz SR6012. The pic below shows where the settings are at the moment from the factory. Does any of them need to be changed?? Thanks in advance!!
