For some reason i cant get atmos/truehd to play

It keeps saying "audio format not supported" and it plays the movie with no sound

This is how everything in the audio settings looks

Digital Audio Output = Auto
DSD Output Mode = Off
BD Audio Mix Setting = Off
Digital Music Enhancer = Off
Dolby D Compatible Output = Off
Audio DRC = Auto
Downmix = Surround

Im trying to play mkv files from my server using the built in media server app

Anybody know what im doing wrong and how do i get atmos and truehd audio to work?

You can play the Dolby 5.1 core though. During playback, ignore the Audio not supported message and push the audio button on the remote to select the 2nd audio track. This will be the 5.1 DD core.

You won't hear any audio at this point. Hit stop. Then play the file again. It will resume where it left off and you will hear audio track 2, which will be the DD 5.1.

Yes, its not ideal ... but very few players actually support TrueHD playback (in a MKV) ... especially bitstream. Players that do support TrueHD will often covert to multi channel PCM before sending off to the receiver.

That's one reason for using HDMI to connect your computer to your AVR. In other words, for using it as an HTPC.

Marantz SR7009 avr + MM9000 amp --> Atmos 7.1.4

Yeah I've been using a htpc I built for the past 5 years but it doesn't have a disc drive, thats why i got a bluray player

I was using a xbox one to watch blurays until I found out it doesn't support dts-hd ma or dolbytruehd

I was hoping I could use the sony to for streaming and blurays so I could move my htpc into my bedroom but it looks like im gonna have to hold off until I find another bluray player

I wonder if the Oppo 103 supports atmos/truehd over streaming and usb

Its a Sony exclusive feature. Its found on some of their bluray players and televisions. You simply switch it on or off.

Ok. I may have some good news for you. You're player might be able to play TrueHD in M2TS containers (rather than MKV). Download this test file and see if it plays. It should work either with USB or DLNA. Note, some DLNA servers might ignore the file since TrueHD isn't technically part of the DLNA spec !

Let us know. I can't try it here since I no longer have the 6700 here. Now have a x800 and was testing things out today and realized TrueHD will play in M2TS containers.
Ok, I can confirm that TrueHD works fine in M2TS containers on the BDP-6700.

I'm looking to get the 6700, so I downloaded the manual. In the section where it talks about "Listening to Audio from a Bluetooth Device", it says "To listen to an audio source from a Bluetooth device (e.g. headphone) via this player, you need to pair the Bluetooth device with this player". So does it just send signals to devices such as headphones and speaker bars, or does it also receive signals from paired devices such as phones? I'm hoping to Bluetooth my phone to the 6700 so I can stream Sirius/Napster/etc to my AVR.

Everything I've read from reviews and forums just talks about it sending the signal.

Can anyone please help with this?

Thank you.

Hi,

The bluetooth feature simply sends the audio from the player to a bluetooth device. So, from my experience, you wouldn't be able to use the player to stream from the phone. To my knowledge, to do what you want, would probably be best done with an AVR with bluetooth built in so you could pair the phone as an input device. The Sony is only for output from the player.

I understand what you're saying about getting a new AVR, but I was trying to avoid the bigger expense if possible.

Thanks for your reply.

You're welcome. There are cheaper options then a new AVR, so that wasn't implied you had to go that route. A sound bar, or portable bluetooth speaker are also options to do what you want, and are cheaper

I just wanted to make sure people understood the Sony's feature is output only from the player , and the player can't take input other then from usb. Whether or not you could use a usb BT adapter in the port is something you'd have to research.

No, no, NO! You've done talked me into a new AVR...don't try to undo that.

I just bought a 6700. When watching Netflix, is there a way to set it so each episode of a TV show doesn't start with 5.1 audio? I'm listening through the TV speakers at the moment and would rather not have to switch the audio from 5.1 at the beginning of each episode. I checked both the BD player and Netflix settings and didn't find a way to do it.

While I haven't used my BDP for Netflix in a while, are you having issues with it down mixing to stereo automatically ?

With my Roku, Apple TV, etc the sound is just down mixed to stereo. I don't remember ever having to change the audio, it has always just worked.

What's the biggest advantage between the 6500 and the 6700?

As a reference I currently have the 360! So anything new is better.

The 6700 ...
Adds 5 GHz band to WiFi
Improves the UI slightly.
Adds support for Sony multiroom Audio
Adds support for Bluetooth audio streaming
Adds support for Playstation DualShock4 controller to be connected via Bluetooth. (Note Playstation Now on this device will be discontinued August 15th, but you can use it until then).
Small performance improvement with Apps. E.g. Youtube loads faster than before.
Note: Removes the web-browser that is available on the BDP-S6500 (its terrible, so no loss there).

Does the load time of S6700 impress you?

I'm wondering if S6700 is the fastest non-4k bluray player money can buy without going for the UHP-H1.

I just found out that my S6700 doesn't output 576i from a PAL DVD source when 'Original resolution' is selected. It outputs 576p.

How disappointing.... Can anybody confirm this? BTW, I updated the firmware today.

It actually works for PAL???

In the past, US Sony players have refused to play region free PAL DVDs.

Sony BR Player 6700 , not playing 3d

I tried to play my first 3 d movie tonight without success.
My set up-
Brand new Sony projector HW-45ES
Brand new Sony bluray 6700
2006 or 2005 Yamaha RX-v2600 receiver

My problem may be my old 2006 hdmi cable? From receiver to projector25' run. Pretty sure not high speed "

Projector set to 3D mode, Hi-shock glasses were paired.

I inserted my 3 d movie , which was factory sealed-Pompeii. It loaded and would not play. No error codes or any other instructions were displayed.

Have I missed something in the menu or more than likely the old hdmi cable?

Thanks for any input! I ordered a new 25' High speed active HDMI cable , should be here Wednesday.

Are you running the HDMI cable directly from the Blu-ray player to your projector? If you are running through that receiver, it won't work.

How do you set up the S6700 to recognize movies saved on a PC? Can they be streamed over my home network in a lossless format (i.e. I would not notice a difference in picture or sound whether playing from the actual Blu-ray disc or via home network)?

To make an exact copy of a disc as far as quality goes, use a program called MakeMKV. It will create an MKV file of the exact quality that's in the .m2ts or .Vob files on disc.

Fr streaming, I have settled on Plex. I find it to be the best all around solution. I liked it so much I went the extra mile to support them and bought a life time Plex pass, which adds additional features, However if you're interested in exploring features beyond the free version, try the 5 bucks a month plan. /Also while Plex does support DLNA and works with the Sony players without issues, you will get more from it if you use a device with the Plex app on it.

FYI: for DVDs and standard blu-rays I have ripped all my most watched movies to Plex so I don't use discs much unless it's for TV shows which can be a pain to rip, depending on how they are organized on disc.

My main discs I till use are 4K blu-rays with an xbox one S.

Hope this helps! have a great day!

P.S As far as setting up the player, you really just need to set Plex up on the computer or other device you want to use add media and the player should pick it up automatically under the network streaming tile on the home screen.
