Xbox One S-UHD Blu-Ray Player Aug 2016

Looks like we have another option for a UHD player. Hopefully it is a player and not a 4k streaming device.

Xbox One S-4k UHD Blu Ray Drive $299 Aug 2016

Looks like over priced 4k Blu Ray drive prices will be plummeting with new consoles thankfully adopting the UHD Blu Ray

Get ready for $99 UHD Blu Ray player by Black Friday :)

Eclipse01 06-13-2016 09:39 AM

was the price announced? Is it really only $300?

If so thats crazy because PS4.5 was said to be a lot more that that.

I couldn't find any solid evidence of this anywhere except more talk about it on other forums and old news.
Any new links to support this ?

you are thinking of 2 different systems, the Xbox 1.5 will be 2017

this is the Slim Xbox One with an updated UHD BR drive

zmarty 06-13-2016 09:48 AM

It's not clear at all if the console has a 4K Blu-Ray player. The only thing they announced is 4K streaming support. Where did you see the actual hardware specs?

Edit: About half of the news websites are also reporting 4K UHD Blu-Ray support, so let's hope it's true. If it is, this is a game changer for the format.

Fascinate 06-13-2016 09:53 AM

Yes it is clear, it said it right on the live stream it had a 4k blu ray player :)

Just shows how bad samsung is ripping people off with the current one lol. I will be buying the 500gb console (the 299 one) and i dont even play on console lol.

Thanks for confirming! I'm still waiting for a Dolby Vision player but this is great news overall.

Outside of the new visual design, the Xbox One S also includes a few other improvements compared to its predecessor. Most notably, there’s 4K Ultra HD video support (including 4K Ultra HD Bluray) and HDR capabilities for both gaming and video. Meanwhile, one of the console’s USB ports has been moved to the front for easy access, along with the controller pairing button, and there’s a new built-in IR blaster. One thing has been removed, however: the Xbox One S doesn’t include a dedicated Kinect sensor port. If you want to hook up a Kinect for voice controls you’ll need a separate USB adaptor. (Microsoft says that there will be a program to offer the adaptors for free to existing Xbox One owners who decide to upgrade.)

The most important question though is will it feature two HDMI outs

one for video and another for audio like the Samsung UHD player?

If not then many people that don't have updated AVR equipment it will end up being useless for right?

EAClarke 06-13-2016 10:06 AM

This is awesome. Great price for a 4K UHD Player!

According to a video I'm watching right now...
From left to right

Power Port - HDMI OUT - HDMI IN - SS USB 1 - SS USB 2 - IR OUT - S/PDIF - ETHERNET

sbalasu3s 06-13-2016 10:23 AM

Does it support Atmos or allow bitstream?.

Promising, but not in stone. I'm still researching. I need to hear directly from MS. Reaching out to some on Twitter. We'll see if someone can confirm.

2TB Already up for pre-order though and I've got mine in. http://mjr.mn/1XkuDzs

I'm in that boat, maybe an HDMI splitter ???
I sure don't plan on blowing upwards of 1500.00$ on a ne AVR that's for sure.

Ben Tan 06-13-2016 11:31 AM

If it's going to play blu-rays like the Xbox One did at launch, they can take the One S and shuff it up their own S.
I mean, they still haven't fully fixed the blu-ray playback on the current xbone. Just saying'.

MelloFellow13 06-13-2016 11:34 AM

The lack of dual HDMI output is a bummer, but I placed a preorder for the $299 500GB model. I have to decide if I'm going to get a HDMI splitter or a new AVR that supports all the latest HDMI/HDCP stuff.

Frankly I'm shocked that Xbox is supporting UHD Blu-ray, that was a big surprise.

I don't have current xB1 so if you can elaborate on what this issue is that you speak of I'm sure lots of people will find that info helpful

somebody above just said it has an hdmi in and hdmi out

isn't that what we're looking for?

or do they both need to be hdmi out?

They both have to be "outs".
One will support both video and audio and the other will only support audio (that's the one to use with your AVR).

No - what we want is two HDMI out. One to go to your AVR for audio, and another to go to your TV with the HDR video. For those of us without a receiver that supports HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0, it helps to have a separate out to the AVR.

The HDMI In is to connect to your Cable STB for the Xbox to act like a TiVo, as I understand it.

I was told by the folks at Monoprice an HDMI splitter isn't normally the correct way to go about this type of thing because the source device will recognize the lowest HDMI version of the two devices it's sending information out to and lower it's output to that setting. Maybe that's incorrect, but after the Monoprice support person told me that, I asked in my A/V store where I've purchased equipment in the past and they seemed to confirm that same fact. I would have to guess if it was as simple as a splitter, devices with dual HDMI outputs wouldn't generally demand such a premium as they do.

How come the amazon link doesn't specifically mention UHD Blu-Ray.... are you sure this isn't just streaming ?

Amazon preorder link below says $399. I've never owned an Xbox, just the PS...I'd be willing to flip for $299 and UHD!
