Exclamation Panasonic DMP-UB700 UHD Blu-ray Player (No Price Talk)

At IFA Berlin 2016 last week, Panasonic has announced a more affordable UHD Blu-ray player, the DMP-UB700. I eliminates the analogue audio output which, for many people including myself, is not necessary and represents money wasted for a feature that would never be used.

http://www.cnet.com/products/panason...ub700/preview/

However, "Panasonic said the company is yet to decide if it will get a release in the US or Australia". I hope that Panasonic will market this unit in North America because, while I'm still on the fence about the DMP-UB900, I would definitely go for the DMP-UB700.

What does everyone else think, would the DMP-UB700 make it to North America?

I think they will eventually release it in the us. Once Oppo releases a universal uhd player for around the price of the 900, they will have no choice. Either that or lower the cost of the 900.

The entry level Oppo will be far cheaper than that!

I'm not sure, the entry level 103D is 599. Add 4k player and that figure will go up.

The entry level player is the BDP-103 is $500. Oppo has already publicly stated that the UHD Oppo will be within $100 of the current version. The Oppo 115 may bring $1000 but the 113 will be $500-$600 msrp. The Samsung is already down to $300 everywhere so thinking the Oppo will be $1000 for the entry model is people talking with no real background to uphold their claims. Again look at Oppo official statements.

I saw Robert Zohn post in another forum that Panasonic informed him that there are no plans to bring this player to the US. Seems shortsighted of them if true, but nothing would surprise me anymore with the way the UHD format is going.

Panasonic dmp-ub700 Audio out query

Hi - I've a Panasonic dmp-ub700 which I want to use HDMI 1 to TV for Video / Audio and HDMI 2 out for audio to AV receiver when on.

But I can't get them both to work with both options set up. It seems to revert to PCM audio on TV and Yamaha Amp if I have HDMI 1 and 2 active.

Is there a setting I am missing?

Trouble playing 3D blurays on Panasonic ub700

I've bought myself a Panasonic dmp-ub700, which is connected to my newly bought Pioneer Sc-lx901, which is connected to a 3D-TV.

When I try to play a 3d-video, the blurayplayer says it cant find a 3d compatible tv.

My last blurayplayer was a panasonic dmp-bdt330 and my amp was a pioneer sc-lx76. It worked flawlessly playing 3d material.

What am I missing? Please help!

You may have to enable it in the settings somewhere. My sony bdp-6200 did not detect either until I went into its settings menu and turn 3D on.

I've solved it. I had to turn off deep color. It seems I have to use both outputs to get the most advanced picture combined with the most advanced sound.

Problem with 'extended cuts' on 4k UHD discs?

Hi guys, I have the Panasonic UB700 with current firmware 1.77. I have experienced an issue with two 4K UHD discs recently:

1. The Martian - Extended Cut
2. Léon: The professional.

They issue is only with the extended versions of the films. On several occasions during the film, the image and sound pauses for about 5 - 8 seconds and then continues. I suspect it has to do with the transition between the 'extended' bits of the film and the 'theatrical' bits of the film. I searched this thread and I found that, at least a year ago, there have been audio sync issues with so called seamless branching on
certain discs when having long audio delay in the Panny (above 70 ms), which have been resolved with subsequent firmware updates.

I have not yet had time to investigate much. I hope to do so this weekend, but if anyone of you has had these issues before, I would appreciate your feedback.

By the way, I use both HDMI Outs: Panny UB700 -> JVC - RS400 and Panny UB700 -> Marantz SR7011.

Good news! Setting the audio delay to zero in the Panny resolved the issue, at least for the 'Léon: Extended Cut'. Waiting to receive the Martian - Extended' to see whether it was the same issue causing it on that disc!

Do you know if DMP-UB700 can play dts-hd/true-hd mkv rips? From NAS and/or usb hd.

And how is NAS playback in general, does 4K rips work, with or without HEVC?

Hi , I've found the player to be quite fussy with video content and generally doesn't work from my NAS. If you want to watch 4k video in HD audio with no issues
then look elsewhere.

I can't tell you what 100% codec works, because I've not found one with this player.

I've been having issues with my UB700 accessing my Windows Home Server Samba share - spent hours trouble shooting to no avail.

As a test I added my Synology NAS to the UB700 and it accessed it fine. So as a work around I mounted my Windows Share on the Synology (See Mounting Remote Folders and now I can access my Windows Server shares fine via the Synology!

Hope this helps someone in the future - I saw some people in the thread had issues in the past.

Panasonic DMP-UB704 No Dolby Atmos

Hi all,

It appears my Panasonic DMP-UB704 UHD BD player does not want to output Dolby Atmos to my receiver, while the settings of the player have been checked (bitstream) and the proper audio track on the disc has been chosen. Playing Dolby Atmos demos from my Popccorn Hour mediaplayer are recognised properly on the same receiver strange enough. So that is why I suspect the player. The receiver is an Onkyo TX-RZ820. All on the latest firmware.

Does anyone have a clue here?

Neither Pana nor Onky (EU branches) seem to recognise the issue. Player obviously connected via HDMI.

Thanks & cheers

Luke

^ Look for a setting in the Panny that enables secondary audio "mixing" and turn that OFF.

[Solved]

Hi All, Bob,

Many thanks. Despite making and (double) checking settings the player still refused to output Atmos. Reading other posts elsewhere I found resetting back to factory defaults helped in some cases and situations, so I gave that a shot, and it helped!

After the reset I checked “secondary audio” to be off and I could see the receiver displaying Atmos immediately after that.

Best regards

Luuk

Panasonic DMP-UB 704 dont read Atmos from Disc

Hi there!
Last week I bought me a 704 UHD BD Player.
Now I was checked some Infos and co. If I tap on the „Option“ Button on the remote, it shows me some details from the disc.
But by the icon with the musical note and disc, the player shows me TrueHD. But it should be Atmos?
Why dose the player not read the Atmos format?

Thanks guys!

Atmos is an additional layer on top of Dolby TrueHD. Atmos must be bitstreamed to an external device for decoding by a receiver or soundbar.

The Player is connected via HDMI to a Denon X3400H

On the 2. picture should stand Atmos, or do I missunderstand anything?

An Atmos Bitstream track is actually a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Bitstream track plus extra "sprinkles" which define the Height speaker activity.

Only the device which is decoding the Atmos Bitstream can see the sprinkles (and only if that device speaks Atmos).

The player does not speak Atmos (only AVRs do at this point), so it sees the track as Dolby TrueHD 7.1. When you send that as Bitstream to your Atmos-capable AVR, the *AVR* will see the sprinkles while decoding the Bitstream, and will then identify the track as Atmos.

SO, it is CORRECT for the player to identify the track as Dolby TrueHD 7.1, even though you have selected an Atmos track to play from the disc.

What you need to do is see what your *AVR* says it is getting from the player. If things are set up correctly in the AVR, the AVR should identify the track as Atmos.

I've written this up in my Blog post here:

Digital Audio 101 (...01010...)

My AVR shows TrueHD too...
But if I start a Atmos movie with my Apple TV 4k with the new Beta FW my AVR shows Atmos in his Info.
So I thought the problem is to find by the Pana 704

For the disc you are playing: Go into the disc's own Setup menus and confirm you have selected to play the Atmos track. Some discs with an Atmos track nevertheless default to playing their Dolby TrueHD track unless you manually select to play the Atmos track.

------------

If the Denon is reporting it is receiving TrueHD from the player, then the player itself is already doing the right thing.

-----------

For the Input you use in the Denon for audio from the player, check to make sure:

1) The speaker configuration it is set to use includes the Atmos Height speakers, and
2) You don't have any audio "enhancement" features enabled in the Denon in the settings for that Input. For example Dolby Volume, etc.
