When I use the Netflix app, the icons launch to a preview video if you stay on one for a few seconds. Problem is that my screen goes dark for a few seconds before I see anything. This is annoying and I hear a click from my avr when it switches resolution.
Is there a way to lock the resolution of the hone screen to avoid this delay?
It might be a problem on the AVR side but I thought I would check here first.

Netflix previews come in several different frame rates so it takes a few seconds for your system to re-sync. I have complained to Netflix that there is no way to turn off auto preview in their app.

You could try and set the X1000 to output 60Hz and see if that stops the black screen. I have mine set to output the original frame rate and it does what yours does. The solution is simple, Netflix should give us the option to turn off auto preview!!

If you set it to one framerate you won't have the issue. The vast majority people have no clue about it. Which is why Netflix probably won't do anything about it.

Going to experiment with the frame rate setting. Where is this in the menu & what is the preferred rate? I have a 4k TV.

Does anyone use the analog audio outs on X1000ES (like for 24/96 LPCM BD tracks and 16/44.1 FLAC)?

If so, what are your impressions of the analog audio quality?

Wondering if the DAC and analog output stage are an afterthought on this model.

Reason I ask is because one of my systems is 2.0 channel with no HDMI audio processing. I use an Emotiva DC-1 DAC with the digital coax out on my current Sony BDP-S1000ES. The analog out on my current BDP-S1000ES is not that great, and it's starting to get flaky reading some discs.

The problem is that the Sony BDP limits bit and sample rate on the coax output, so I'm not getting the full resolution on many concert BD LPCM tracks.

So, a BDP with good analog output would enable full audio resolution.

Also, I need a BDP with AV sync (audio delay). Every Sony I've owned has this, both I believe most other brands do not.

There is also the Essence HDACC DAC as an option to convert the hi-res BD audio.

Any other thoughts?

I remember reading a few pages back about freezing of this unit. Well I had it happen twice tonight. Once in the middle of a movie & I just now in Netflix. First required a plug pull & last one shut down by itself. I believe I am on the latest FW.
Is this going to be an on going problem or will there be a cure? Not happy as I paid a lot for this player relying on the reputation.

I do. My X1000ES' analog L/R goes to one of my integrated amps. Its coaxial output goes to my other integrated amp. Lastly its HDMI goes to my AVR for multi-channel music and 4k movies (atmos). The X1000ES is the workhorse in my main room. It's internal DAC is so-so. I prefer the DAC on my Parasound HINT that's why I take its coaxial digital output to the HINT for 2ch playback.

To answer your question, I don't think its 2ch analog output gives justice to hi res music files. 2-ch SACD sounds nothing extraordinary on its analog output.

You need to use the X1000ES' HDMI output (paired with a capable AVR) to get full resolution from hi-res music files (both 2ch and multi-ch). I play hi-res 2ch and multi-ch music files (both DSD and FLAC) on the X1000ES via HDMI. It does a great job with those files. One limitation is it can't play Dolby True HD and Atmos tracks from MKV movie files. Other than that it's a great player.

Thanks for the input.

I am now planning to go in another direction for this 2.0 system. I just ordered a Marantz AV7704 pre/pro for our 5.1 system, and plan to repurpose the Outlaw 975 pre/pro in the 5.1 system to the 2.0 system (if all goes well with the Marantz set up). Net, I will then have HDMI audio (and BD 24/96 LPCM capabilities) in the 2.0 system. So, no need for BDP analog output. This will also allow me to eliminate the standalone DAC in the 2.0 system, as the Outlaw 975 will handle DAC duties for all sources (HDMI from BDP and optical from TV and Chromecast Audio).

My player locked up last night half way through a movie disc. I had to unplug to get it back to normal. I have a memory stick in the front port as advised by someone. This happens too frequently. Should I send it back for warranty repair or is this just something I have to live with?

Was it a new disc? If so, it is recommended to wipe the disc before playback. New discs have a coating from the factory that may cause this problem. I had the same issue a while back, but I haven’t had a problem since I started wiping/cleaning the discs before playback.

I appreciate your reply. It was a Netflix disc, but before you reply, I also have a Oppo that played it fine & has never chocked on a disc in 5 years. I have never cleaned a disc, new, used or rental. This is unique to this player or the model. Does Sony know about this as I see a lot of complaints in other forums.

Sony 1000es vs 1100 es

I am thinking of selling my 1000es and getting the 1100es. Just not that convinced that DV is that advantageous...

I just got a 1000 four days ago, and it locked up 11 minutes into the first disk I played, Dunkirk 4K. The disk looked clean, but I washed it, and it played OK. Not convinced that's the problem yet.

I don’t know whether my experience will help anyone else, but... I had a number of lockups occur on this unit until I disconnected it from my home wireless network. It has been several months since then, and the player has been rock solid - no problems of any kind. Fortunately, i didn’t intend to use the apps on the player anyway. If there is a firmware update, I reconnect the player to WiFi just as long as it takes to do the update.

At this point, I am extremely happy with its performance, and I would buy another one.

OK, I'm more convinced after a second new disk locked up toward the end, and cleaning it fixed things.

This is the main movie selection page comparison between Apple TV on right and the x1000es on the left. Why does the Sony look so bad? Playing the same movie on both devices is fairly equal but the sony’s main page looks bad. Can it be fixed?

Video down-conversion question

Greetings! I just purchased a X1000ES. I plan on running it through a Pioneer Elite SC77 and then to a JVC DLA RS60U. The projector is very good, but maxes out at 1080p. So my question is....does anyone have any opinions on where I should down-convert the video signal? Do you think the processors in the Sony or the Pioneer would be better? Thanks for your input.

^ Since your entire HDMI signal path does not support the new HDCP Copy Protection level mandated for UHD (4K) content, it’s likely the player won’t let you send out anything above 1080p video, and with HDR BT.2020 content also forced to SDR BT.709. So you may not have a choice about this.

Yup. Didn't think about HDMI version and HDCP level. I'm sure you're right about the player restricting the output. Thanks!

I was planning on buying the Sony 1000ES DVD player. When I heard the 1100ES was coming out I cancelled my order for the 1000.
I have a new home theater system and I am getting tired of waiting.
I know the 1100ES has Dolby Vision and the 1000ES does not. I have an Anthem 1120 that supports Dolby Vision so would the 1000 work for me or should I just wait.
Are there any alternatives to the 1100 that supports Dolby Vision.
I guess if the 1100ES is my best option I could wait. Thanks

Build quality and analog outputs on the 9000. The 820 is not too shabby either. I have to apologize above I stated the 420 I meant the 820. Sorry old age catching up.

I have been using the X-1000ES since March with no issues. Got a decent price for a scratch and dent one from Crutchfield.

The biggest issue I see so far with 4K and the latest formats is the lack of media available on line for streaming. I have yet to find a Netflix 4K video for streaming that was not produced by Netflix. Please correct me if I am wrong. Hard to find on Amazon as well.

I have bought a few discs and enjoy them but the expense, even at $25 a disc, is pretty steep. The only redeeming grace is that over the next 2 years the cost of discs will come down and there will be more streaming media available.

My son plays a lot of DVD's and I play a lot of Blu ray discs and found the up converting to be decent. Also it does a great job with ATMOS signal to the AVR for processing.

Sony XBR65A9F, Denon X4400H, Sony UBP-X1000ES, Apple TV 4K, Denon DCM-444, Verizon FIOS, Harmony Elite. Dolby ATMOS implemented by Klipsch.
