"Good" to see others got the same email. I had thought Fedex complained about me since I got the same email after I already installed & was "playing" with the 203..... Yeah, my 203 got delivered about 15-20 min after my Fedex chat......about right for putting the carton on the truck, look up the addr on a map & drive here.

I know that I'm well off, given that I ordered early enough on Day One to get one of the first batch. Actually I am not in that much of a hurry because I still have to receive the all regions chip I ordered from JVB Digital and install it in my 203 -- when I get it. Anyway, there are miles to go before I sleep.

If the item is loaded in the truck, deliver it; if not in the truck let the person pick the item up. The Fedex office isn't a warehouse as claimed; it is a single story building Fedex is sharing with Papa John's pizza & the office has a copy/print/collate service just like Staples or any copy/print service center. So the Fedex office will have a customer counter that the chat person claimed it didn't have.
Oy... Obviously if it's put in the delivery truck, it should be delivered that day. My point was that stuff that's at the warehouse ahead of schedule should only be put on the local delivery truck to be delivered ahead of schedule if there is room left AFTER they've loaded stuff that has been guaranteed to be delivered that day. I suspect you would be pretty ticked off if something coming to you didn't make it on the truck because they decided to deliver something to someone else in your area a day early and didn't
have room on the truck for your item...

Moving stuff around so people can stop by to pick it up isn't as simple as you think it is, at least not at all depots, as the warehouse where the trucks are loaded isn't always the same building customers go to.

Certainly is reasonably priced, I though it would have been around a 1000.00 or 1200.00
More then the Panasonic one, that's for sure.
Nice surprise.

They told me the same thing that I wouldn't be able to pick it up. The 1 thing I like about all of this, is that these "so" called forecasters were completely wrong about physical media being dead! UHD Blu Ray is doing way better than Blu Ray ever did in its first year. Long live physical media, you will never get me to buy digital online!

Has anyone used the HDMI In on this for a media streamer? Will it upscale content going through that input?

Yes, the 203 can be set to upscale content coming in on the HDMI Input.

For those who have the player, can you test and verify if 4k discs can be stretched vertically to be used with an A-lens?

Well, about 15-20 min after my Fedex chat, Fedex delivered my 203. The 15-20 min is a good time to load the 203 on the truck, lookup my addr, & get here. It takes me about 13 min to get to Target & the Fedex office is in the Target shopping center right by Target. Would be even faster by freeway.

I really think that the whole business is that someone wanted the shipper to pay extra for a 1 day (next day) delivery to make some money.

UPS has no problem in delivering stuff early or even delivering marked for USPS delivery (SurePost) if UPS has a delivery in the same area. So far UPS hasn't been locked in by a "delivery date" when they can deliver earlier as proven last week when I got a couple of packages from Amazon.

Hope 2 tracking numbers is not a cause of concern.

Did you check the box during order to require a signature for delivery so they don't just leave it on your front porch or doorstep?

I don't want that expensive 203 sitting in Illinois currently 2 degree weather. Or worse some clown walk by and say hey I need that box & what's in it for my x-mas.

If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.

There's the problem of gargantuan proportions regarding the massive variability with respect to the video mastering grading / tone mapping of all consumer 4K UHD HDR video source material being variable, and massively so, ranging from 1,000 nits peak to 10,000 nits and everything in-between. It's a colossal mess and there is only one way to fix the problem, which needs to be done really if you are to be able to display HDR properly on any display, namely to adjust the grading / tone mapping for all video source material such that it matches that of your particular video display, via an external video processing device... Because quite simply, if the video source material is all over the place with respect to this you can't really calibrate HDR properly anyway, even if you had the capability to do so... Where there are in fact numerous HDR video source / signal generating products available for use in carrying out the calibration, but like I said you really need to fix the variable grading / tone mapping as part of carrying out whatever calibration and set up of whatever HT system if you are to have any chance of properly displaying HDR content

For example:
Quote:
From 76 UHD Movies:

35 titles mastered @ 4.000nits
28 titles mastered @ 1.000nits
13 titles mastered @ 1.100nits
6 from the movies mastered @ 4.000nits, they have MaxCLL (Maximum Content Light Level) over 8.000 nits..until 10.000nits, all the others have max peak level lower from 4.000nits.
.

First of all.. I find is very funny how angry people are getting.. "This player has been available for secret preorder for 72 hours and I don't personally have one in my hands!! Oppo is the anti-christ!!!"

Second of all... I'm number 2913XX and I'm still awaiting shipping... hoping it ships out during businesses hours today!!

same thing happened this year. i got a new marantz and then the oppo comes out.

but it still works perfect so why not still use it. i moved my pioneer elite down with that stuff for the lower living room setup.

hopefully it will last another 9 years.

I have the Panasonic/Fury combo and received my OPPO yesterday.

If all goes well, I will have some time this morning to play around and do some comparisons. I am not expecting the OPPO to be better than the combo, but as good and that will be just fine with me.

My findings will be posted in the Owners Thread.

Status shows as Order Shipped for 2913xx. FedEx tracking doesn't show anything yet. Guess they need some time to log it into their system. Can't wait.

Hi everyone, glad to see that this baby is finally coming out! I have a rather simple question.. I always thought that the oppo players came region free and that was part of their appeal; I was not aware that a separate part had to be purchased and installed to allow this.

My question is, are there any warranty-voiding implications with performing this modification?

No, OPPO has never had a region-free Blu-ray player. There is a free software mod for DVD, but Blu-ray requires hardware.

OPPO has said they have never refused warranty service because of a hardware mod as long as no soldering is involved, which isn't required these days. In fact there are entirely external solutions that do not require the box to be opened at all.

Questions regarding player's performance and verification of features (there is also a manual on-line) would be better suited for the owner's thread.

I have the PM-3s and the HA-2; both outstanding products and great values IMO. As for the wireless speaker it has received a number of positive reviews. There is a thread for it - see speakers - that will allow you to get some opinions. Back to waiting on the 203 which arrives tomorrow.

Couldn't find anything in owners thread, but googled it and found some info. Here's quote I found.

"When onkyo is set to 4k upscaling, the tv indicates that the input is 4k but at 30p per the onkyo spec but at least it works. Now just have to decide if the tv's 4k upscaling at 60 fps is better than the onkyo's 30 fps since my source is really only blu-ray and not true 4k"

Thinking this means when the receiver is set to Upscale to 4K, that's all it's upscaling to is 30fps. But I am "hoping" that if I set it to "THROUGH" it'll pass it at the 60fps untouched.

I know when I first got my new TX (Samsung UNJS9000) I tried using the Onkyo Upscaler, but it wasn't jiving with the Samsung (think because that was also upscaling). The picture was really blurry, so I just set my Onkyo to "THROUGH" and let the TV do the upscaling and it was perfect. I assumed I would be able to do this as well with the Oppo.

Thoughts?

Means Oppo has labeled the package for shipment and is sitting waiting for fedex to pick it up. As soon as they pick it up and it hits the scanner either in the truck or sorting facility it's status will pop up.

That's good news though, I'm 2915xx, so I'm not far now...

I got 2 shipping fedex notices and then then two notices of shipping cancellation.

My order page says "shipped" but the tracking number they have listed says "cancelled". Trying to be patient and all that, but this is pretty annoying.
