I am concerned that, with the impending release date right around the corner, there is so much pent-up demand it will take quite a bit of time to fill all the orders. Is there anywhere that is accepting pre-orders so that we can guarantee our place in line?

It does seem to have a lot of folks waiting for the release of the 203, myself included . This will be my first Oppo player.

Personally, I'm not really that concerned.

I purchased the -83, -93, and -103 at release and always received a unit. It would appear that Oppo does a pretty good job managing inventory for their introductions and absent evidence to the contrary I'm expecting the same this time.

Yes, there is a fanatical group online here chomping at the bit but that still only represents a portion of the total market.

Fingers crossed for the 4th time.

Plus, using forum history:

the amount of "I want one ASAP" does not equal the "willing to pay $499 on release day" when they get the email. I have always pulled the trigger when I got the email and never had an issue getting one.

You are right the Xbox One S does not bitstream but Microsoft has promised support in a future update. Many are hoping it will be updated before the end of the year but Microsoft has not given a specific date.

+1 for my 1st OPPO.

The thing about the availability date is Xmas delivery as a present for myself. The delivery may bump into the UPS, USPS, FedX or other carriers for the Xmas big rush. It's like the want for the Nook 1st gen ereader where some may or may not get it before Xmas day depending from where the item is shipped & how.

The formatting was atrocious too, so quote at your own risk!

The odd thing was JVC had announced this Z1C projector in Sept, so maybe just road show demo going on, along with the UDP-203.

Hi, I am debating on this upcoming Oppo 203 or the Samsung k8500. My main usage of this two player will be UHD disk, Amazon video and NAS streaming, in the order of priority. Question I have, How is the quality of amazon HDR streaming on the samsung vs the Oppo? Any feedback will be appreciate. Thanks.

The Oppo 203 will not be released with streaming apps. The Samsung K8500 does have some nice 4K streaming apps. Amazon 4K App has nice HDR with it. Netflix does not. Maybe Oppo is able to download some streaming apps once it is released, but you should know on previous Oppos they did not have Amazon on it. I think everyone is anxious to get the Oppo 203 cause it promises to have the very best picture quality for 4K HDR Blu-rays.

In regards to the 203's upscaling capabilities, I'm curious about the standard DVD to 1080 transform and how it'll compare to the BDP-83. I'm guessing that a DVD to UHD image will be rendered disagreeably soft especially with poor prints. I only mention this in the light of a recent article in DPReview reporting on a new upscaling algorithm developed by Google that surpasses plain vanilla linear transforms. This new algorithm with the acronym is called RAISR and whose meaning escapes me at the moment, does an impressive job in upscaling low-res images and I am doubtful something like this will work its way into the newest gen of Oppo players such as the 203. Not that I expect an answer but I wonder if the beta testers have considered 1080 vs 4K upscaling DVD comparisons in their evaluation of the 203.

A while back I suggested a Black Friday or thereabouts release of the 203. I still hold to this prediction.

I am currently using my Oppo 105 to upscale DVDs to 4K for my LG OLED and I expected the result to be "soft", softer than upscaling to 1080. I have been surprised. Results depend on the DVD you're watching but even with poor quality DVDs I would not call the result "disagreeably soft". Poor quality DVDs do look soft but high quality DVD transfers actually look quite reasonable and I have actually ended up enjoying watching some old DVDs I expected would look particularly weak. DVD to UHD has actually turned out better than I expected.

I would expect the upscaling in the 203 to be no worse than that in the 105.

The Magnolia in the Santana Row Best Buy in San José had a stack of Oppos when the '95 was still current, so they definitely sell them.

I usually get my new Oppo direct, just go by their HQ and pick it up (usually with an accessory or two for the previous model I have).

The last time I dropped by the Oppo office I'm sure I saw a computer in one of the empty cubicles. With that kind of high technology they can send a everyone an email announcement in the blink of an eye.

Ye. I called a local Magnolia Design Center (i.e., different then a magnolia store, which he told me DOES NOT sell OPPO), and he said they will carry the 203. I bought my 103 from Amazon when they first came out....

But i now have apprx. $400 in Best Buy Reward pts, and the Magnolia Design Center can use them toward my purchase.

He was asking a question how they will structure their notification. Will it be a mass email to everyone at the same time or notification in order of when someone signed up?

I would guess it will be a mass email to everyone at the same time. I would imagine (but do not know), if it was in order of when someone signed up (a queue), they would have stated that up front to encourage ppl to sign up quickly. Again, that is just a guess on my part.

No expectations for Oppo to contact those that are showing interest with updates other than "the 203 is now available, would you like to buy one". Maybe Oppo will contact everyone in a group email at the same time to ask if they want to buy one. Not sure I guess anyone that's interested in that question could contact Oppo and ask them.

I'm pretty sure if you ask customer support, they will ask you. I asked about BDMV folders (patched with BDMV Modifier) Via Network for my 103D and explained me why it can't be done and that they don't have any plans of implementing it in the future.

I don't see why they should omit this feature from the new model.

I think everyone is anxious to get the Oppo 203 cause it promises to have the very best picture quality for 4K HDR Blu-rays.
Thanks for the quick response. I am currently, use the following device:

1. WD media player for streaming from the NAS ( work faultlessly ), but can't do 4K.

2. Ruko 4, can do 4k, and has amazon video , but no HDR. But more importantly, the local streaming capability is worst I see. I can upgrade to the new ultra, which can do HDR. But I can't depend on its streaming capability. Ruko support has no help.

3. Xiaomi Mi Box can do 4k, but no amazon video. Streaming is not bad, including the 4k stuff, but not fluid like WD.

So I was hoping the 203 , has some streaming capability, cause I still prefer, the Oppo for its 4k quality as, disk player.

I can't imagine they would contact each person individually in the order they signed up as that would be a nightmare to manage in that you would need to give each person something like a 24 hour window to order and then move on to the next and so on (obviously, they would contact groups of people at a time, but hopefully the point is made). My best guess (and please note that this is only a guess) is that they'll do everything they can to ensure they have enough inventory to satisfy everyone on the list and just send out an invitation to everyone on the list a bit (perhaps 24 hours) before they actually make it available on their website for anyone to order.
