Oppo is still based in the USA. They are a subsidiary of Oppo International which is based in China

Is there a VAT in Oz? If so, that's probably pushing the price there a good deal higher. Import duties? Local taxes? We won't know the US price until Oppo issues their release statement.

Sales are through distributor Interdyn Australasia Pty Ltd also (Australia/New Zealand) so shipping and tariffs add up.

And there are thousands of people who, like me, live in locations where the cost of streaming is prohibitive. How prohibitive? Our DSL speed is too slow for standard def (at least, enjoyable SD). I do have access to 20mbs wireless internet with a 10GB monthly cap. I pay heavily for that so that I can stream music. Overages are $10/GB. So my full monthly limit would be reached with 2 - 3 typical HD movies (since this thread is about a UHD BR player, I hope I don't have to explain why standard def is actually not acceptable). After that I would pay $30 - $60 per HD streamed movie. I believe I read that 4K UHD is on the order of 3-4x the size of an HD movie -- right?

Now, let's ask the question again about why someone might want to have DV capability on the UHD bluray player that they will only use to play bluray discs? No slam intended -- it's just that the fortunate are seldom able to understand the situations of others who might be less so. Just as I will never understand how you might want to live in a city...

I couldn't wait any longer to gift myself a 203 - - and bought an Oru Kyak today during their Black Friday sale instead. Guess the 203 purchase will have to wait until January (which is a more likely date for general availability).

That minor typo had me searching for some new high tech AV device manufacturer. Good logic. Enjoy.

When the 203 is released there will be a flood of information available all at once from Oppo and the Beta Testers. I hope the thread avoids becoming clogged up with a lot of UPS tracking garbage from posters. You may be excited about your 203 on the way, but nobody here cares where UPS shows it or when it is scheduled to be delivered. Please.

Out for delivery tomorrow WOOHOO! I'm special! Mine is getting delivered 17 minutes before the next guy, so mine is obviously better!

UPDATE: Delivery exception, dagnab it. Now I can't get it until the next business day. It's the end of the world. I'm shattered! Life as I know it is over. Damn OPPO!

Can I still post pictures of the UHD movies I purchased or a video of me opening the OPPO box? As you can tell, I'm not part of the generation that documents every aspect of my life (as if complete strangers would want to see it).

If that type of tomfoolery happens I hope that it is in this thread! The reason being is that I would expect a OPPO 203 OWNERS thread to be started once the unit is in the hands of folks..

Please.
