That is my plan while waiting for the 203. I'm about 500 yards from the creek and percolation ponds so I'll be kayaking there later this week. Maybe this thread will reach 100 pages in length by that time......

A little late to the party. I've had my 2 sets a little over a year now. My beloved X940C in my main room and in my bedroom a 55" UB8200. It is very nice to have upgraded from 1080P panels.

Personally speaking, waiting for the bag is killing me. I just hope it's backwards compatible for those with that concern.

I have a great idea guys. Why dont we all agree to a pact that not a single one of us will stoop down to the self centered level of posting any UPS info on delivery date or unboxing etc. If not a single person has unboxed and you are the first then by all means go ahead but if someone else already did it dont do it again no one cares anymore. Anyways all I am saying is lets prove it to ourselves and the AVS forum that we are better than that and that some decent human beings do exist! I agree to this pact and if anyone else suggests better ideas or additional requirements to this pact I am all ears.

Just out of curiosity, why are people paying $500 for used 103s with these launching right around the corner? I get that these hold their value, but I don't recall ever seeing a used tech product sell for 100% retail value. Not even Apple gear sells that high.

A bit off-topic, but...

At the risk of making a fool of myself, I believe that there are 3 different laser diodes used: near IR for CD, red for DVD, blue (duh) for BluRay. At a guess, your red laser is no more.

Probably fixable, by replacing a module. I have no idea whether it would be worthwhile on a cost basis.

It's often mysterious. Online markets are sometimes very good to the seller; it is hard to understand why people pay what they do for all sorts of things on Ebay, for example.

Check if they are including region-free mods; that will increase the value.

Even so: the 103 series is out of production now but for people who don't care about UHD the old players might be just what they want. OPPO will service them for a reasonable price more or less forever (in a loose sense of the word).

Yeah, but that is short sighted. If it does just as well with DVD and Blu as the old 103, why potentially pay more for the 103 now than a brand new 203. Now if it isn't as good with DVDs and Blu...

I posted this 2 pages ago on this thread. Its also not a review. More of a follow up to what is expected. Must've have been a slow day for Sound and Vision. It isn't delayed OPPO hasn't mentioned anything. The article is talking about the state of UHD players and the market in general.

Obviously you aren't familiar with the market for used Oppos.

Anyway the 103/103D can rip SACDs, so there's that.

Have they always been selling that high? If I knew I could sell it for at least $400 I might buy it as a stop gap. If the 203 is released next week then it is dumb, but if it will be in January it is worth it to me. Anyone else do something this stupid? lol

So are you saying that even when it's successor is available at the same price and certified refurbished units with 2-year warranties are available for nearly $100 less, the market still demands a $500 price for a used Oppo from a stranger? If that is true then I will buy one and just flip it.

At some point OPPO moved from Mountain View California to Menlo Park California. That was about six miles North on US 101. I have visited the Mountain View office several times without meeting anyone who didn't speak English like they were born in California. As I understand OPPO, they are a US engineering company owned by a Chines multi national company. Their manufacturing is done in China, and their management, design team, and support team are in Menlo Park. I'm assume that any technical company based in Silicon Valley will have some Chinese employees, but I haven't met any at OPPO.

Some electronics sell for more than their original retail price. The 93s with the .ISO firmware probably still sell for a premium. Since I have one that I'm not interested in selling, I haven't kept up with the current market.
