A store is Arizona is now taking preorders for the 203, with a release date of December 10th in the usa.

Edit: it was NZ, not AZ. New Zealand.

I don't know about 20 days but however many days it takes, what you aren't thinking of is when that period starts. How old are those photos? Are there some already on the water? Your 20 days could end tomorrow or it could end in January if they're still sitting in China. How long shipping takes is only part of the story. The date they ship is probably even more important and no one has mentioned that.

I was just about to say the same thing but you won me to it. Anyways post above said his store in Arizona is saying 10th of Decmeber. Now if that is true then I nailed it when I did my prediction back in October! I will call my contact tomorrow and see if he has any info but as I said before I won't be surprised to see pre orders start within a week.

Not to discuss price, but value and price reduction?

I've never owned an Oppo. See the 103 have somewhat of a "cult" status.
Are Oppo players know to hold their price over a long time?
Reason for askin is I this summer bought the Samsung for 499$
Only a month after my purchase, it was reduced to 399$
Then again to 299$, and this Black Firday it was for 199$ inclusive Deadpool, Revenant and Days of Future Past.

It's just terrible being the early adopter who spent 499$ 5 months ago, seeing the same player being more than halved in price, and bundled with a good stack of movies.

I would not be happy to repeat this with Oppo, for out the RRP, and see it price reduced in february, easter, and summer sale.

So how is Oppo players known for their pricing over time?

And to moderators. This it not an attempt to discuss specific price, but more how Oppos hold the value over time.

Ebay sales a few months ago of a BDP-83 and a BDP-93 brought 55% and 60% of the original selling price.

But did they confirm it?
I thought the said "expected to arrive next week", as in the unit was not with them.
If so, we don't know when they get it, or if they get it before mass market.
In the latest podcast they don't even mention it.
I would have thought they would mention it if the 203 was arrived and to be tested.
The lack of mentioning, made me conclude with the unit still not being delivered to them.

Before the reviews, the beta testers should be allowed to post on AVS and other sites...which means we will get real world feedback from folks that have "lived with" the player for a while. I value their opinion and experience as much as the site reviews.

no they haven't confirmed they have the unit for review yet, they just gave approx dates as to when they expect it to arrive, which is now.

So, The units and boxed up. They are getting ready to put on a ship.

But beta testers are still not allowed to discuss the units? If this is the product that is shipping, and there is no going back.

Why don't they let the testers start telling people all about them to push the maybe people to yes?

Probably not since the 203 uses an all new SoC chipset. But we won't know for sure until it is out and the region-free modders put out their products.

The hardware was probably finalized several months ago, so the units can be manufactured and shipped to Oppo in the U.S. and possibly resellers now. They can't be released for sale until Oppo has reasonably stable and properly working firmware to install on the players. I assume that testing the firmware is what the beta testers are deeply involved in. When Oppo is satisfied with the firmware, the player will be released. You don't really want to buy a player that has buggy firmware, do you?

A used BDP-103 (release date Oct 2012, original MSRP $499) would currently sell for $400+

So yeah, they hold their value better than any piece of consumer electronics I have ever owned. It makes buying (and upgrading) such a no brainer.

I have been following this thread since day one which is now at over 2500 posts with NO hardware available. This has to be some sort of record would one think .
At any rate I have been doing some serious thinking this week as it pertains to my setup and how the 203 would fit in to that setup. The bottom line is that with my Hopper/Roku Ultra/UHD BD player and a legacy AVR and a Soundbar (optical in) I would have been in "HOG Heaven" if OPPO would have maintained the 2 HDMI INPUT ports with the 203. It would have simplified my setup/wiring a lot. But with it only having one input I am really no better off in the wiring/component switching area. I may have to pass on the 203 at this point as my Philips7501 is doing a great job for me..
Will layout a wiring diagram and think some more!
Gerry

PS: I am using a recently purchased Harmony 950 for my switching. I was thinking about a HDMI switch that would have to be HDMI 2.0a compliant and would have to work with the Harmony. I found a Blackbird at monoprice but I can't get it to come up in the Harmony compatibility website. Anyone know of a different one out their that may work with the Harmony?

Same reason it's not wise to yell "OPPO!" in a crowded movie theater.

I have no idea whether this might have occurred, but based simply on the response in this thread (let alone all the other OPPO 203 posts in many other threads), I find it difficult to believe that OPPO might find a need for additional incentive to to order...

There is certainly a lot of interest in this UHD BR player, but I have to think that the US is probably OPPOs largest market. The one place where they will ship more of their 203s (and to multiple US locations) than any other location in the world. Could be wrong, but...

Given that market and the fact that selling price is a combination of costs including shipping, I would think that the cost of the 203 here in the US might be lower than in other markets. Perhaps not as low as China...
