There's zero chance that this cable can handle 4K HDR reliably.
The only sure success will be with an optical HDMI cable.

It's your cable. With UHD 50ft is too long for a passive cable and HDMI.org will tell you the same.

The HDMI I’m using is a 50ft run but it’s supposed to be compliant. It’s this one. You need to use nothing but Premium certified HDMI leads between any device that supports HDR. At the current time the longest 'Premium Certified' HDMI lead is around 25 feet...

All genuine 'Premium Certified' products should have a hologram on their packaging to prevent counterfeiting: -

For more information why your HDMI leads need to be 'Premium' certified look here: HDMI :: Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program :: FAQs

Plus, genuine Premium certified leads (with hologram) are not expensive!

Cheers

^ Temporarily move the player close enough to the TV so you can hook it up with the 6 foot Premium Certified cable OPPO supplies with the player.

If the problem goes away, you know it's your cable. 50 feet is a tough length for the high bandwidth 4K/HDR signals.

Might you be able to provide me with the firmware version you're now running on your Denon? I'd like to open pass that along to the Marantz support team to see if the update included within that bundle that solved your DV flickering is being planned for my unit as well. Glad you're up and running again!

version 3400-9927-3033

DTS version 3.90.50.00

The whole thing seems very coincidental but I'm not complaining. Hope you can get sorted out soon as well!

Nice it worked for you.
cables are not my problem. I am only using certified hdmi premium cables with about 3 foot and my combination worked on the last 2 official firmwares.
And my problem is only with HDMI IN and only on certain movies (mostly high bit rate files). If I skip the Oppo in my chain those files are playing fine.
I did contact Oppo Support. They are looking into it. As I am experiencing some player freezings too with new beta fw, they are aware.

Did you perhaps link the wrong thread by accident? That thread seems to be about using palm pilots as remote controls?

Use default settings with these changes: reality creation off and motionflow: custom, smoothness 3, and clearness low. Use the latest firmware which updated the settings changing among other things color for DV from neutral to expert 1.

The latest beta is strictly for DV related issues, correct?

Just want to make sure before I upgrade since I'm really just looking for the HDR>SDR tone mapping fix. Thanks

Haha Palm Pilot Hell. I’m using Tapatalk Pro in dark mode. I found the thread. Looks like many have had success with non certified 18gbps 50’ HDMI runs. Other, more expensive option is Fiber Optic HDMI. Will discuss on other thread but this stinks! Running this cable is a PITA.

Yeah, and the Monoprice one that got recommended at that length doesn't have ARC capabilities I believe. The Ruipro I think recently added it to their cable but some still had issues with it at that length for ARC. 50 feet is kind of the wild wild west at that lengths with 4K short of expensive HDbaseT.

Having been a happy owner of a BDP-93 for several years, I decided to pick up a UDP-203 to replace it and move into the world of UltraHD (and such fun).

Recently, though, I found something causing me to break out the BDP-93 again ... distressing!

So I have backups of some of my Blu-ray discs that I can download to a USB drive and plug into the BDP-93. When the unit navigates to the USB drive I can select the movie's folder and the machine plays the content as if it were playing an actually Blu-ray disc.

Having swapped the player in my system, I tried the same trick for the first time with the UDP-203 ... failure. The unit just simply navigates into the folder and shows me the raw contents of the disc instead of playing it like the BDP-93 did.

Is this something they took away in firmware? It was my absolute favorite feature of the Oppo's!

Are those .iso files? Ability to play those existed for about 5 months on the 93 and then the studios came down like a ton of bricks on Mediatek and OPPO.

No other OPPO has been able to play them.

If you unpack the .iso files to BDMV the 203 will play them, with some proper preparation.

They are not ISO files. They are the raw disc content.

You mentioned "some proper preparation" ... but this would play as-is through the BDP-93 as if it were a real, spinning disc, straight off the USB stick.
