I’ve never ran in to cinavia on anything. I watch some rips with the oppo but I primarily use my shield or atv4k.

I am looking to either buy the Oppo 203 or the Panny UB820. Can the Oppo 203 do auto tone mapping like the Panny can? Also, I would like to pass my apple tv 4k through the Oppo- has anyone had success with doing this and the HDR streams from the Apple looking good?

Well I had my wife buy me a shield for Christmas but that will have to wait.

I reset the oppo203 to factory settings and cleared the persistent storage but the oppo still saw Cinavia on my full backup rip. I did happen to have a mkv rip of the same disc that wasn't in a file folder and that one plays without Cinavia.

I am not exactly thrilled with the prospect of re-ripping hundreds of my full disc back ups.

My full disc rips work fine as well. So it should work! There’s just something else here going on.

I only have full disc rips for certain UHD. Everything else I have is mkv. About 1300 of them. All with makemkv.

Likely only a handful of those have Cinavia. Google for title lists.

I have, there do seem to be only a few. I cannot find a list newer than 2013 however.
I am trying to rip a mkv file from my backup copy but makemkv doesn't see anything to rip. FRUSTRATING!!

I use a ZappitiHDROne for all media server functions, oppo takes too long to load files, network playback on cat 6 gigabit can still be choppy with some movies , Zappiti it's instant, And plays back everything, uhd iso, mkv, and no cinavia. Oppo is a great disc spinner and an average streamer. And Zappiti-one has a full movie catalog poster art etc.
before UHD I used a dune bd-prime 3.0 for streaming.

Nevermind, i found the info i needed by clicking every single thing in the folder until i ran across the index (which didnt have lots of GBs but worked nonetheless).
Now to see if i can create the mkv file that works like the one i ripped from the disc.
If anyone can link me to an up to date Cinavia list that would be awesome

Fast & Furious 8 (uhd) has it -- late 2017 but not on the list. It's the only dolby vision disc that I have with audio malware, so, yeah, it's not that popular any more. (I watch everything else via Oppo 203 mkv)

Good question. Not sure if Marantz and Sony have actually come out with firmware that enables the enhanced mode yet. I thought Marantz was scheduled to release the firmware for the 8805 in October but I don't have one so haven't been following it much.
As far as the Oppo is concerned the HDR10 default version will play until the proposed HDR10+ update is available. This will only matter if your display is HDR10+ compatible. Sony has stated that the A1E is certified iMax enhanced but I'm guessing at this time it is not HDR10+ capable.

The 8805 latest firmware is for imax enhanced.
There is a new A1 firmware but I do not think it addresses imax enhanced.

So I should just use my standard 4K hdr settings for this disk right now?

Sounds like a plan. This is all very new stuff and Oppo has not released any specific settings that I'm aware of for IMAX enhanced discs. Do you have one of the IMAX enhanced discs yet, and if so are you getting DTS-X IMAX enhanced on your 8805?
As far as display devices I think it's basically a certification program at this point. A display must meet certain requirements to earn certification. Similar to THX certification although some devices do have a THX setting. As far as I know there are no displays yet that have a IMAX enhanced setting.

Yup. THX certification has not meant much since the early 90s...

I connected Amazon fire tv 4k to Oppo 203 via HDMI in. Picture quality is great but there's no sound. I'm using samsung soundbar hw-n950. Soundbar can play atmos when I use regular 4k bluray. No sound when I switch to HDMI in on Oppo.

How does one go about using Roon software with Oppo 203. I have a windows computer that i would install software on. After that does the software find the oppo player and just stream to the player.

I expect the disc will be like most other IMAX discs; 2.35 and 1.78 formatted picture sizes intermixed.

The Oppo will not be able to play HDR10+ (yet) so it will play the HDR10 layer.

The updated Denon and Marantz AVRs should switch to IMAX Enhanced DTS:X mode. But unless you have two front height speakers you won't experience the true IMAX Enhanced audio. IMAX theahers have center and high center channel speakers. IMAX Enhanced uses a new version of the DTS:X format that will mix sound to 2 front height speakers with sound to the center speaker to simulate the IMAX theater center height speaker position instead of requiring a new discreet center height speaker.

For the Beautiful Planet total experience today you would need:

- Panasonic UB820/UB900 disc player that supports HDR10+
- Panasonic or Samsung TV that supports HDR10+
- Denon AVR-X8500 or Marantz AV8805 that has the IMAX Enhanced DTS:X firmware update.
- Two center height speakers in addition to typical 7.1, 7.1.x, 5.1, 5.1.x speaker configurations.

Without center height speakers I believe the DTS:X mixing may send center height sound to front height speakers instead if you have a 7.1.2/4 or 5.1.2/4 speaker layout.

While A Beautiful Planet and other IMAX Enhanced discs will contain HDR10+, HDR10+ is not mandatory for IMAX Enhanced. But because IMAX has partnered with DTS for IMAX Enhanced, we likely won't see IMAX Enhanced discs with Dolby Vision or Atmos; formats from DTS competitor Dolby.

It would be nice if the 203 would give us the ability to convert 10+ to DV in the next update.

I shot couple of videos from Panasonic camcorder. When i play the videos on oppo 203, on left hand bottom of the projector screen, it is displaying the date and time video was shot. Is there any setting i need to use in oppo 203 to not to display date and time of the video shooting ? When i play the same videos on my PC, I don't see the timestamp displayed. I suspect some setting in oppo is displaying timestamp on screen. Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Try the subtitle button on the Oppo remote.

With the Oppo powered on, Roon will see it. You just need to go into Settings---->Audio in Roon and enable the Oppo. The Oppo was my introduction to Roon and I love it!
