[QUOTE=SeeMoreDigital;57660934]I'm not aware of any 'hardware based' media player supporting the forced subs flag in any container...[/QUOTE

Yes, I wasn’t aware of the general issue with forced subs and mkv on hardware players.
I always use BDMV folders, forced subs work OK with playback via the menu.

Oppo Player led sends 422 BT2020 12b Dolby Vision

I believe that only the LG 7 series and newer support player led Dolby Vision from the Oppo.

As a workaround I've setup a second share name pointing to the same location. If the first one doesn't work I use the second one and vice versa. Are you also experiencing this problem?
If not and if you are not using anonymous access would you be so kind to share your smb.conf?
For my testing, I used a VM without authentication. When I first got the Oppo, I did try and connect it to my Synology NAS via SMB and had the exact same problem. It would "forget" my credentials, but if I went to another share (that had the same password) and came back, it would work fine again. For my current/final configuration, I have my Oppo, a media player/NAS with a built in HD (for playing my DVD ISOs), and my LG tv on a physically separate private network that's not connected to my primary, internet-accessible network so I don't use/need authentication. It also prevents these devices from phoning home.

isn't necessarily a hardware problem, but software - how mkv is interpreted.
mkv _could_ have menus, forced subs, various 3d material flavors, is a versatile container. but it's the same situation as CSS - some browsers can do rendering better, some don't. for example, i'd like to see an implementation of rich text subtitle rendering in standalone players - colors, formatting, fonts. but probably will never happen.

Oppo used to have a site in Australia which became inoperative some time ago. I think the site was actually maintained by Interdyn, the Australian distributors for Oppo. Interdyn made changes to their site as well but they have a general support page which lists Oppo and they are still releasing Oppo FW updates here in Australia.

It could be that something similar is happening in the UK. Check the website for whatever company was the UK distributor and you'll probably find links for Oppo FW updates there.

Oppo UK was/is the distributor in UK and their site as mentioned hasn't been up for few days now. Direct link to FW file share (latest here) still works because it's different domain. Maybe site is just temporarily down or maybe European Oppo support is now moving to continental Europe? Just speculation on my part. I remember reading that the Europe office would be moved at some point due to wind down and possibly also Brexit. Any info about this?

EU Firmware Update

Hi All
I own a 203 with firmware version 20XEU-60-0625
I see there is a firmware update

Release date: February 8, 2019
Category: Latest Official Release

Main Version: UDP20X-65-0131
Loader Version: TF0035
MCU Version: MCU203-01-1118 (UDP-203), MCU205-01-1220 (UDP-205)

I have tried the UK site and it appears to have vanished.

Will the above firmware work on a UK Oppo 203 or do I have to have an EU version.
If so where would I get it.

Hi @Gwing

I downloaded firmware version UDP20XEU-65-0131 from here: http://oppofirmware.s3.amazonaws.com...EU-65-0131.zip

Just unzip/unpack the .zip file and transfer the 'UDP20XEU.bin' file to an NTFS or FAT-32 formatted USB pen/thumb-drive (preferably no larger than 4GB). Insert the USB pen/thumb-drive into the front USB port of your Oppo. And after a few seconds you should see an 'on-screen' prompt with instructions.

Oh... And don't forget to perform the (highly) recommended 'Restore Factory Defaults' afterwards.

Cheers

With the new "beta" 0131, auto works as it did on the prior official release. The prior public beta and official 0131 are fully distorted on auto, like when you use the player-led setting.

I have the official 0131 release and see no distortion with DV on my E6 when set to auto. I have the 203 directly connected to my E6 if that makes a difference.

Has anyone had playback issues of inception from the Christopher Nolan box set collection? It is the only uhd issue I've had. Basically handshake issue where everything is blue and pixelated. Resetting just the oppo doesn't work, have to reset both tv and player before it works

That's exactly why it's working for you. I've an E6 as well and got the same issue. Using auto while connected through my AVR-X8500H causes the picture to become purple/pink and the TV doesn't switch to DV at all, switching to TV-led solves the issue. If I connect the player straight to the TV auto works.

Maybe it's something with your AVR? It should pass the DV straight through.

I found that if I switch between TV Led and Player Led DV in my Oppo, I typically have to restart both my Denon X4200W and my LG B7A. Some kind of handshaking fails with one of the devices and I get a purple/pink picture as you describe. Power restarting everything resolved it. This has occurred since Player Led option was introduced, so for me it is not related to the latest firmware.

A purple/pink picture is typically seen when DV is sent and the display can't process it.

I have not noticed anyone other than yourself post that they can get Player Led DV to work with a 6 series LG.

Hi

It's not random and the explanation easily explains why some people see the issue and others do not.
The sort order is physical order in the fat/Ntfs file allocation tables. Essentially unsorted.

If you copied the files from disk to disk then windows for example probably copied in alphabetical order one at a time, so that's the order you will see.
If you downloaded from a website or app, as I did for my hdtracks download, then you probably did multi thread downloading and you'll get whatever order each file started. The first few will be sequential and then after that all bets are off.

I confirmed this by redownloading an album from hdtracks straight to the Nas shared drive with single and multi thread options.

Oppo know of the issue (I emailed them way back but no reply) but I doubt they're looking at it.

Regards
Chris

Highly recommend going to NFS (which is easy on a Linux setup). No more login needed, defaults to read-only access (at least on my Synology) and no problems with the old SMB implementation Oppo is running.

Only downside I've encountered is that the NFS servers show up last when it's looking for servers.

I think you misread, TV-led is what's working for me. I've done factory reset of all devices and cycled power. You might not have the issue since you're on the 2017 model. If Oppo has acknowledged that there is a bug and a fixed firmware has been issued privately that resolves the problem, I don't believe we need to question whether the issue is on the Oppo side or not.

Yes, I did misunderstand. So it appears Auto might be choosing Player led instead of TV led for you with your 2016 LG. And that results in the pink picture because the 6 series does not support Player led.

We recommend doing it after every update. Saving your settings to a USB stick before and restoring them after makes this painless.

It seems that the latest production firmware has solved the vexing lip sync issues I was experiencing with Dolby Vision discs. Yesterday I watched the 4K DV disc Mary Queen of Scots and experienced no lip sync issues at all from start to finish. Prior to this latest update I would have to set the lip sync setting on my Nakamichi sound bar to +130 to get video and audio properly aligned.

Anyone else noticed this?

LG 55C6P OLED Display
Oppo UDP-203 UHD Blu-ray Player (65-0131 firmware)
ELAC unifi B5 Speakers
NAD C316BEE Stereo Amplifier
Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2 Sound Bar (3.2 firmware)/Xbox One X 4K Gaming Console/Apple TV 4K

Is HDR+ automatically backwards compatible with sets that are just HDR? I thought that’s what I read in the past.
