Yes, via the HDMI input, but the Apple TV is 1080p so you won't get 4K Netflix with HDR from an Apple TV.

Wow, I would have thought a company like Oppo would have gone that extra mile to at least ship it in a box.

I just placed my order and I'm pretty excited for my first Oppo player.

For those of you who've had earlier models and use universal remotes: Are they like most manufacturers where the IR codes stay pretty consistent from model to model? I want to go ahead and get my remote ready to go so I'm planning to download a code set from the 103 to get things mostly set.

Thanks,
Russ

For Beta Testers:

Does the Oppo 203 have the ability to display what signals it is receiving and sending?
Like 4:4:4 or 4:2:2, 10bit or 8bit, and frame rate.

I would love know if my sony 665 projector is receiving 4:2:2 10bit 24hz like it should.

UHD Player - Oppo UDP-203 Streamer - Nvidia Shield Pro TV (2017)

Yes, there is a new extended Info display: press and hold the Info button on the remote. Lots of good info.

Will be fun to see how people set up their player. My OLED tv is a 10 bit panel, so the first thing I will do is set the OPPO to 10 bit. Next is the color space. I wonder if 4:2:0 at 10 bit will be the way to go, instead of setting to auto or 4:4:4 for UHD discs. Perhaps Source Direct will be a better choice.

Yes, that has worked in tests so far. It is something I would keep checking, because zooming and some other operations (like slow-mo and frame by frame) require dealing with the BD-Java on the discs and the disc authors might make it difficult.

Zoom modes are the same as on the 103.

"The HDMI input of the UDP-203 does accept 4K resolution on release, but not HDR.
Oppo has said they hope to have HDR compatibility on the HDMI input in a future update.
To confirm, when I try pushing my Roku Premier+ through the -203, I do get 4K but not HDR."

I am a bit uncertain about setup now.

Presently, with the UDP-103D I am sending Comcast and the Roku Ultra to the Denon 6200W and then thru the OPPO for upscaling to 4K. I use the LG OLED E65 Netflix app and sometimes the Amazon app (I think I found that the Roku Ultra remembers the Amazon HDR settings).

I was planning on a plug and play switch. Am I correct that I should be connecting the Roku HDMI directly from the Denon to an HDMI input on the LG E65? Will I then have to switch upscaling on the LGE65 on every time when I am using the ROKU for upscaling?

I presently have a Samsung Ultra Blu Ray player and have to use a separate optical cable for sound. Hoping that is not the case with the new OPPO.

You could just use the Auto settings for everything except resolution = custom, then custom UHD. Try it.

I'm not missing any built in streaming apps. Personally, I'm very happy with the WebOS interface on the 2016 LG OLEDs, and the capability to stream a wide array of 4K content, some with DV. With ARC or a dedicated optical connection, you get surround channels (albeit lossy). Not sure if there are any streamers out there that will get you lossless DTS HD Master / Dolby TrueHD and /or Atmos/DTS:X?

There are titles on Vudu that give you DD+ with Atmos - not a lot, but they do exist (and Atmos does work). A lot of content on Netflix is DD+ if you use HDMI from a Roku (I upgraded to the Ultra). AFAIK nothing does DTS-HD MA or TrueHD though. I think if you have an Xbox360 or Xbox One and you stream from CinemaNow, some titles are in DTS-HD HR (a few LG Blu-ray players also support it, but Roku doesn't).

It's such a patchwork though.

Disappointed to hear that streaming local media files has taken a couple of steps backward:

No bit streaming of ATMOS, and Cinavia is now enforced on local content.

Does the player make it clear that Cinavia protection is kicking in, when it does? For example, the PS3 flashes a message on the screen.

I'll learn soon enough, I suppose, when I pick up my player.

"HDR and HDR to SDR Conversion: One of the more exciting elements of the new 4K UHD format is the inclusion of high-dynamic range (HDR) video and an expanded color range, allowing for more natural and true-to-life colors. The UDP-203 supports the HDR10 format, and it is also capable of providing an accurate conversion from HDR to SDR for older displays."

Right, but playout from disc with HDR10/DV is a separate question from forwarding it via its HDMI input with HDR10/DV metadata intact. Apparently the latter won't happen immediately, but should be addressed later via firmware.

The Cinavia message is part of the enforcement, probably predefined. OPPO has no choice in this matter.

Currently the HDMI input is not checked for Cinavia, nor is the HDMI ARC. This could change if the powers that be think it is a problem.
