In my case it bypasses the internal conversion of the VT60 and will simply passthrough RGB PC Levels. I may try out YCbCr 4:4:4.
Hi, I found no reason for that test, since content in Blu-ray will be always be Video/TV Legal Levels (RGB-Video / YCbCr), if I select to output RGB-PC, it will not reproduce the correct levels. It will be Ok only if you want to view pictures from USB (which are PC/Data levels.)

YCbCr is always Video Levels only.

My new 4K/UHD display will be here shortly, but in the interim I appreciate having had the option to watch whichever version of a given title best suits my A/V needs.

I would encourage you to take the plunge with the reassurance of Oppo's 30-day (and sometimes thrice that if you run into operational problems) return policy.

I would recommend it, since you can always return it. I ended up selling my other player (Panasonic) since I was happy.

I should add that in recent weeks my 203 has been trouble free but all I use it for is to play UHD HDR disks, 1080p BDs, and DVDs. As you have no doubt already seen here, though, a lot of 203 owners are still experiencing problems.

All down converted UHD with Atmos and didn't have any problems playing them(freezes or audio drop outs), but while the colors look good the Contrast/brightness levels are off and need some kind of adjustment compared to the Blu rays.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate your advice. Looks like the score is 3 to 1 in favor of my going ahead and getting the Oppo 203 now. I'm actually in the same boat as Carbo in that I too am waiting for the next gen of JVC 4K projectors to come out at a reasonable price. I think that I will probably wait for a few more months before taking the leap and purchasing the Oppo.

By the way, can I continue to use my current HDMI 1.4 cable to connect the Oppo 203 to my 1080 JVC projector? The cable runs through walls to my PJ, so if I need to change it out, then I'll need to factor that cost into the equation as well.

After 2 months, I fall in to the category of owners whose experience has been far from glitch free. I don't think there has been an evening where I've used the player and haven't had some issue - lockup, freezing, audio stutters.

To be told the majority of issues are due to either a cable issue or a dirty disc seems to be the order of the day.

My expectation of playing a disc from start to finish problem free is not unreasonable as this is the intended use of the hardware. So far, my experience has been a disappointing/frustrating one. It reminds me of the release early, patch later mentality of the software industry.

On a positive note, I have to commend Oppo on the speed of the player. What loads almost instantly on the 203 takes 20-30 seconds on a Playstation 4 Pro drive. This was with the Band of Brothers blu-rays and Stalingrad 3D blu-ray, which now seems to play properly on the Oppo with the Feb 17 beta firmware.
Yeah, I'm patient, and have been a long time Oppo customer, but I've never had problems like this with any Oppo player. Very disappointing. With the frequency of problems, it's hard to believe these issues weren't ID'd prior to release.

I thought the old iOS app should work with the 203? It says it can't find my player. Even when player is running ( as opposed to in standby ). I know there is a new media control app coming.

Has anyone traded in their old 103 to Amazon for a gift card? A couple days ago it was around $390 but down to $242 now. Was wondering if people were getting the full value offered or getting a lower offer due to wear or some other reason.

It sort of works if you enter the player's IP address manually. I tested this with the Android version but I think IOS is the same.

It does work, you just need to set the IP address manually. A case of making it static would make future connections easier too.

No, I'm saying nothing like that at all. HDR is extremely good on my OLED and I'm very happy with the results I get. What I was saying was that the things that many people talk about when they talk about how great HDR is are not the things I appreciate about HDR. The things about HDR which make the difference for me are subtler and a lot less flashy than the highlights "eye candy" which seem to impress a lot of people.

The Android version will connect via direct IP input as Bill suggests. You can browse your DLNA music, but when you go to play, it won't. That was my experience. I should note, that was on the 1229 FW. I haven't tried again on the new beta.

Jealous! My local rental shop closed first of the year. There's another one about 6 miles a way, but they are hit and miss with BRD. I'm sure they won't be doing UHD.

I tried my iOS app for the 103 with my 203 again a little while ago and it worked. The biggest glitch, which Bill McClain mentioned in an earlier post, is that you have to hit the "+" icon and bring up your IP address in order to connect. Because my 203 has a static IP address, this works satisfactorily. For those with dynamic IP's, though, I gather not so much.

HT setup: Sony 75XBR X940D UHD HDR TV; Kaleidescape Strato Movie Server 6 TB and Terra Server 24 TB; Yamaha RX-A3060 AV receiver; Sonamp 2-1 2channel 100W power amp; Crestron Control System; 2 Rythmik FV18 subwoofers, 6 Hsu HB-1 Bookshelf speakers, 1 Hsu HC-1 Center speaker, 4 Focal ICW8 in-ceiling Atmos speakers; Oppo UDP-203 4K HDR BD player; Mac Mini HTPC. After having the Oppo 203 since its release in December, and also having the UB900 ...my preference is the UB900......BUT! i am still "trying" to make something of the Oppo.

Spent yesterday comparing images... the one thing that predominately stands out is the "excess" image "noise" with the Oppo pic. Using 4K UHD HDR Star trek Into Darkness. In the opening scene on Ch5 there is excessive background image noise . I have tried all manner of setting configs and it is still excessive.
Various other 4K UHD films have the same result.

The image "noise" is NOT present with the UB900.

When playing a STD Bluray , the Oppo does NOT have this noise issue, it is vary comparable to the UB900...the Oppo having slightly more saturated ,more colour depth......
STD Bluray with the Oppo i havant a problem with, the issue is when when playing 4K UHD,s ..

One thing i need to stress is that my viewing is done with a JVC DLAX9500 on a 143" Scope screen...... I also have a 65" OLED display for comparisons ...the problems with the image are quite apparent on the 143" Scope screen , BUT not so much on the small 65" OLED..

Does anyone have any "constructive" feedback relating to the image noise in the Oppo?

Trust me, just like everybody else i would like the Oppo to be the product every body wants it to be.

^ Try sending 4K/24 4:2:2 12b video to the JVC, using a direct cable to it (not through an AVR or anything else).

Confirm that all Picture Adjustment settings in the OPPO are at their factory default (0) values, and that you are using HDR AUTO.

Hi all, I just got my UDP-203 player and seem to be having a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I have no home screen. I put a movie in and it plays fine. I did a search and read that it may be my cables. I tried changing the the resolution. It worked one time. So I ordered new UHD 4K certified cables. No luck. No home screen. This is my set up.

^ Move the player close enough to the Display that you can connect it without going through the wall. If that fixes it I'd START by assuming your wall plates are the culprits.

Hi Bob,

Yes done that .

I gather the "Sharpness" "Noise Reduction" features have NO effect when playing a 4K UHD?

Detail in the image is there, just excess "noise" for some reason?

Even on Pristine samples like The Martian, .........the scene where he is having a shave in front of the mirror before putting on the space suit before leaving Mars.....you can see the "noise" present ...it is NOT as apparent with the UB900 even if you deliberately add excess "enhancement" to the UB900,s image( which amplifies any noise) .

Set the OPPO to Custom > 1080p Auto. I'm betting you are seeing HDMI signal problems due to the bandwidth.

I have various HDMI Cables... Audioquest Coffee , KORDZ EVS...these work "flawlessly" with the UB900 . ? Cables are 7mtr.

^ Try the test and see if the noise goes away.
