There's not much this thread can do to help with these reports. There is no general problem with Dunkirk, or any other disc. If a disc doesn't play, get it replaced. If you seem to have an abnormal number of discs that do not work, try playing one of them in another Oppo, e.g. in store, and if, after all that, you think your player may be faulty, raise the problem with Oppo Support.

Unless you are a big fan of snake-oil I would say no! Go for a 205 if you want a noticeable step up in audio quality.

But you might find these interesting (if mostly referring to the 103/5):

There was a good review by Vincent in regards to Oppo udp203 comparison with ub900, I have both and I prefer oppo due to its features, quality wise they are pretty much the same

Video: Synology 416Play NAS 24TB -> OPPO UDP-203 / Zidoo X9S / Nvidia Shield 4K -> Lumagen Radiance Pro 4444 -> SONY VPL-VW760ES -> Elite Screen 135'' 16:9 1.1 Max White;
Audio: DENON X3500H -> Dali Zensor 7.1 Dolby Atmos (7, 1, E12F, Vokal, Dolby Alteco C1)

Newbie Question: Oppo as a ATV4K processor

I did a search on this thread, so excuse me if this has been answered....

I am installing a new ATV4K and Oppo 203 to feed into a JVCRS520 projector...

Would I get better video processing utilizing ATV4K-> Oppo 203 HDMI Input -> Oppo 203 HDMI Output ->projector

or allow the ATV4K to feed projector directly?

If you play an MKV with TrueHD/Atmos audio then try to play another file with another format, there's no audio. You have basically power cycle the player to reset the bug.

I've reported it to Oppo directly, which they acknowledged as a known issue.

I'm experiencing it more regularly now that I'm watching content again instead of just managing it. It's extra trouble for me given my setup and requires walking across my house and downstairs to manually reboot the player.
I've experienced this exact issue. A fix would be most welcome!

The answer is “yes”. This is a highly subjective area to begin with, and “video processing” is an overly broad category. I’d be surprised if you got any answers other than “try it both ways and see what you like best”.

Need new firmware and a fix for this ASAP.
I'm running a Control4 system as well, but all my inputs on my matrix are being used so my Oppo is setup locally in my media room. I know Chowmain makes a Control4 driver for the Oppo 203, which increases the functionality when running it through the Control4 system. I was considering removing my Roku from the matrix, plug it into the input of the Oppo, and then I could add it to the matrix, but yesterday I found out my matrix isn't handling audio correctly, so right now I'm waiting on a replacement for my Control4 matrix. Once I get this replaced, I might add the Oppo to my matrix since every TV in my house runs 4K HDR. I would love to be able to watch some of the new 4K Blu-rays I recently bought on all my TVs hooked up to the matrix so I can compare the video quality of each TV. After having my Control4 system installed, I don't think I could ever go back to not having one.

How good is the Oppo as a media player? Does is differ much from other alternatives qualitywise(for example nvidia shield)?
And how much better is Oppo vs PS4 as a bluray player? Is it night and day?

If content I want to view doesn't play properly on my Shield, you can bet the Oppo 203 will play it without sneezing.

The interface on the Oppo 203 is basic, but who cares, this thing is a beast!!

Would you say there is any difference in PQ between these two?

My response was more about performance. I haven't noticed a "night and day" difference in Picture quality. My Shield is connected to the HDMI Input of the 203 so there are some picture adjustments between the 203 and my Sony X900e Display.

For Blu-ray: well, major and minor depend on how closely you look, but our advice for years has been not to swap out player hardware trying to improve picture quality. Calibration of your display is of vastly more importance.

Also worth mentioning, if you're looking to play 4K UHD disks, the PS4 cannot (neither can the PS4 PRO).

@groove93
thanks for your input.

@wmcclain
Yeah I can understand that. I actually have calibrated my TV so maybe this player won’t do that much difference for PQ(for blurays). If I connect it through my reciever (Marantz Nr1607) I may don’t want any extra settings from the Oppo (”auto” on Oppo, let my reciever take care of upscaling for example), correct?

@galonzo
Yeah, thanks man, I’m aware.

BTW, I have all this questions to sort out if it’s worth buying the Oppo for me. It’s quite the price tag, when you obviously could by the Shield instead as a media player, and be happy with bluray on my PS4. But of course, UHD disc support would be very nice.

You should try it yourself to see if you can detect a difference.

Hooked one of these up last night in the quest for Dolby Vision.
Worth it! - Now if only it would pass DV through that input for an app streamer like Apple 4K or Chromecast.

That’s all related to gaming/streaming it does not play 4k Blu-ray Discs .

Except for that pesky foonote # 4:

Yeah Sony dropped the ball on their potential 4K Blu-ray player but many have said the X-box has it's own problems playing the discs, that's why I got my 1st Oppo.

My copy freezes at 31:50 mark...it's repeatable. Cleaned the disc and still have the freeze up. I have to stop the disc and restart on the next chapter...reverse the disc to the 32:00+ mark and restart.
