I gave you plenty of references wednesday.

Doesn't matter if the Oppo has better quality, that's your preference.

By using the display settings for both the Oppo and tv, this gives me better picture quality on the Shield. It also reduces the brightness clipping found on the Shield.

I don't always feel the need to switch to the oppo every time i want to watch local content.

The people in the ATV thread can probably provide insight into your question (without violating NDA). That was my point.

I might type 2K for 1080p.

Are you sure it is the UHD disc and not the Blu-ray from the same case?

During playback, press and hold the Info button and tell us what it says under Media Info and HDMI Output.

You only provided half of my sentence. You quoted: "I was asking if anyone knew why Apple could implement "low latency" a couple weeks after Sony received the update ..."

Second half of the sentence was something like "but it was going to take OPPO several months". Then I asked if anyone knew the reason why.

You were placing the emphasis on the first part (what you quoted) and I was more interested in the second part (i.e., not so much interested in why something got here fast, as I am interested in why I must wait for something). That's why I said I would not ask the question on the ATV4K thread.

Bottom line: We were talking apples and oranges. But, I apologize for any confusion and if I got any "noses out of joint".

ETA: I should add that the player's own Info displays will not identify the audio input as "Atmos", just as is the case when you play an Atmos track from a disc. Only the AVR which is decoding the HDMI Bitstream audio (received from the OPPO) will know that the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 bitstream it is receiving actually contains the Atmos sprinkles.

Thanks for the info Bob. I assume the HDMI input on the 203 can take a 4k 60 HDR signal ( from a game console for example)? Does the input add any significant lag?

@Bob Pariseau do you happen to have an update on the new DV profile for Sony? Is there a firmware that might be available this month? If not, any idea of general timeline? I know these things take time, but it might stop us from constantly peeking in here way before it may even be available. Thanks!

I've not specifically tried a game console. I would expect it DOES add significant lag, however. The video coming in on the HDMI Input is fully "processed."

I'm a Beta Tester, which means I'm under non-disclosure. So I can't talk about anything I might learn regarding future firmware updates (such as when they might happen or what might be included in them) until OPPO makes a release or starts talking about one prior to its release.

So far, and despite some posts made here earlier, I've not been able to confirm OPPO has actually made a public statement on this yet.

So we'll all just have to be patient.

Finally, let’s turn to Oppo’s succinct but fortunately promising response: “OPPO is working with Dolby and [chip maker] MTK to overcome this issue. We do not have a timescale as to when we will have a fix, but it is a priority.”

Seriously I doubt Oppo even responded to him.
Look he is a bit clever with his story telling. He takes info you post here in this forums and rewrites it to say he got the response from Oppo. The earlier post you had from jwstegbauer is a example of a usual Oppo response and the likely basis of this info.

LG doesn't have any issues, Oppo and others have to WASTE TIME, $, and effort because of the Circus Clowns that have more $ than God, yet seem to always have issues of one sort or another with their overpriced gear.
It's pathetic.

Hi, I am on the most recent beta, and have noticed brief drop outs on audio when playing cds or sacds. I haven't played many in the past on the 203 (if any), so not sure if this behavior is new to the beta, or was there when I first got the 203 (it replaced a 103 and 105). Has anyone else noticed any audio drop outs from cd/sacds?
Thanks
Mar

If you are playing these with your TV turned Off, try turning the TV On and see if the problem goes away.

There's a known issue with some recent Sony TV models where they generate activity on the connected HDMI cable even when the TV is supposedly "Off". This causes the player to do an HDMI handshake, with a resulting, brief muting of the audio output. If this seems to be what's happening to you, be aware that there is apparently a "display off" feature for those Sony TVs, so you can leave the TV On while still blanking its display. I believe that's a button on their remote but I don't fully recall the details.

Oof, I can taste your bitterness through the internet.

I am failing to understand why you are so upset. How does Oppo potentially investing some R&D time into supporting Dolby and Sony's implementation of Dolby Vision for Sony's displays as far as support for the player affect you?

Personally I'd be fine with sticking with HDR10 from the Oppo on my Sony as the performance is sublime. Adding DV will just be an added bonus.

Indeed. Every since I got my first player many years ago, I have always been super impressed by the overall quality of their devices from the performance to the build quality and packaging.

Love that feeling of ejecting the disc tray and dropping in a movie in such a wonderfully crafted device.

Literally the only thing I ever returned to Oppo was their PM-1s mainly because they weren't what I was looking for as far as sonic signature so I went for the Audeze LCD-Xs and Sennheiser HD-800 S but you can be dang sure I have them powered by an Oppo HA-1!
galonzo and azz7686 like this.

I hate them WASTING time on something that they shouldn't have to, that takes time away for other things that DO Matter to me.
Sound like I should, irritated that one of the richest companies in the world has Issue after issue with their products, yet they almost always demand top $ for said products, and it's taking valuable time to fix another shortcoming by Sony.
Glad you are happy with your Sony, be sure to Thank Oppo when they fix it so you can actually use it.

Why waste $ on more cheap stuff, it's like challenging a dragon with a pocket knife.
