In Configure, I can select from Stereo, 5.1, and 7.1. But after that, I still can’t select/enable Atmos.

Are you using PC Atmos for games and/or upscaling?

Does Oppo Info show MLP/DD+ audio input and bitstream output when Atmos is active on your PC?

Mine stays on LPCM input and output, with no Atmos.
Hmmmm I wonder what is going on there. I don't check the Oppo info but my Denon switches to Dolby Atmos. What is your Oppo connected to for sound? I will check Oppo info when I get a chance to see what it says. I am not using this PC for gaming at all, must ISO playback, Kodi, and a few other things.

I have found that remux and other scaled down versions of UHD discs behave somewhat poorly when it comes to HDR. Either the metadata is being interfered with or it doesn't align with the underlying video content ( or both). I was able to get a good picture by adjusting the projector settings to Rec.709 colorspace in one case but it isn't always consistent, so experimentation with display settings is useful.

On the other hand UHD.iso's are amazing when played natively through the Oppo.

I have a problem, just updated to -0224. Ejected tray, Put a disk in tray, press eject button, tray closes, then tray opens back up.

Have tried this without a disk, tray won't stay closed.

I have tried using the remote.

I have power cycled.

I have put the disk in, let tray close, killed power with tray closed and then restored power and tray opens automatically.

Any ideas?

Thanks for looking in to this.

Oppo connects to a Samsung HW-K950.

I use the PC for MKV playback with Kodi and MPC-HC. Atmos bitstream works fine with those, and doesn’t rely on the Dolby Access app.

If I try to play Atmos enabled games or do Atmos upmix through the Dolby Access app, I don’t get Atmos when going through the Oppo. Same stuff works fine when going direct to the Samsung, though.

Somehow the Oppo is telling the Dolby app to send LPCM instead of unprocessed bitstream.

Thanks Ash - I have tried with Dune 4k Solo via HDMI-in and couldn't get anywhere, but did get a good picture by playing through Oppo USB and tweaking PJ settings. On one occasion the PJ HDR colourspace setting was triggered when the signal was in fact Rec.709.

have you tried playing UHD MKV files into Oppo via USB?

I tried a 4k .iso file thru a 2TB portable drive using the front USB in on the front panel of the Oppo 203 & it doesn’t see the 4k .iso file. It does see 4k MKV files but they don’t work very well as far as navigation goes.

How are you able to play a 4k .iso file? The only difference is I’m on the official firmware & it looks like you’re on the beta firmware.

Hi everyone, I have a question about the analog outs with this player. Does the DAC decode all of the codecs available on 4k blu rays or just certain ones? I thought I read somewhere it won't decode Dolby Atmos, so then would it just decode a core Dolby Digital signal or something higher bitrate than that?

My current receiver is a Harman Kardon AVR 430 which is pretty old and only handles Dolby Digital and DTS core, but I like it's sound with my Klipsch RF-35 surround setup. Would getting the Oppo 203 be a noticeable upgrade using it's analog outs or would I be better off saving some money and getting the Sony UBP-X700?

As you guys may or may not know... The Oppo's do not (and never have) officially supported the playback of .ISO (image) files, using official software releases.

It must be the Beta Firmware. I don't know if this will work with every Beta release but I just tried it while fiddling around. I wont be updating firmware anytime soon

Stupid question but what do you have the Oppo audio set to? Auto, LPCM, or Bitstream? I will say this though Microsoft does some weird things with how they send over audio so your issue is likely there. Kodi kind of bypasses your Windows audio settings so it can get a little confusing there.

Oppo HDMI audio is set to Bitstream. Seems strange that the Oppo still sends LPCM in that mode.

Have tried Auto, but that doesn’t help.

Also tried switching back and forth between Bitstream and Auto with PC connected and powered on because I saw that someone had fixed another sound problem by switching that way.

Also tried unplugging and replugging cables, and power cycling devices, but that hasn’t helped either.

There is a section in Kodi where, I believe under video, where it says "sync playback with display". I may have inadvertently checked this after the firmware update last week. This caused Oppo to report LPCM from my Nvidia Shield, rather than output lossless audio formats such as Atmos or DTSMA.

In the description, it says that the player will not bitstream audio or something similar.

Now it may be a different meaning for the windows version of Kodi, but this was the case for Kodi on Android TV.

I just saw "Interstellar" on the Oppo 203 on Wednesday night and I couldn't believe how much more the 4k disc added to the experience than the 4k digital copy. I think this title has more IMAX scenes than any other title out there or at least more than the other Nolan titles with IMAX.

In the description, it says that the player will not bitstream audio or something similar.

Now it may be a different meaning for the windows version of Kodi, but this was the case for Kodi on Android TV.
Yep. I always make sure to keep that turned off with Kodi/SPMC on the Shield and PC. It definately can cause problems when trying to bitstream.

So Kodi has been ok for me. Just the Dolby Access app has problems.

That was the one that I picked to watch. I’m about 30 minuets in and I still cannot believe how good this update has my JVC projector looking. I almost feel like I need to send OPPO a gift basket for this

With regard to the black clipping, I will refer to atabea's post. The Oppo is performing dynamic tone-mapping and for whatever reason, doesn't resolve the black clipping patterns properly. Playback of regular content is not clipping blacks -- I demo'd quite a few scenes from IT and if the Oppo is clipping blacks I'm just not seeing it. Instead, I'm seeing a ton of shadow detail and vibrant colors.
I just watched the Boogeyman scene on the 4K disc and granted, I'm new to the 203 and my 940E, but I didn't notice anything. My 203 is running the latest firmware (0224) and after doing the reset, I've pretty much left everything on default settings.

Look at the bodies of the alien creatures you'll see shadow areas that look like black batches due to clipping. some of the chamber walls show the same. This does not exists on the uhd played through the panny nor does it exists on the blu ray.
