I regularly use a 8tb USB hard disk with the UDP-203. Therefore I think it's safe to assume that 10 tb & 12 tb hard disks should work too

This is a problem that I have faced only with Oppo. Both on the 103 and the 203. Never faced any issues with the other media players or with nay PC software players. In case there is an additional Dolby Digital track in the MKV, then merely switching to it and then back to the TrueHD /Atmos track, resolves the issue too

PS: The problem with using M2TS as a workaround is that M2TS does not support chapters.

Sometimes people just do not read carefully and fully before posting.
So, AFAIK, you cannot use the App with the harmony one. I have the same remote BTW.
Sorry, I thought the One was similar to the Elite or 950 but I see the One uses the older version 7.x desktop software. It's been awhile since I've used that but I did setup my 103D with the ability to change inputs when starting up, this was with Harmony 880. I'll check it when I get a chance and let you know.

The first image below is using the front input on a 103D and the other the rear input on the 103D. The rear input command I used twice and I think I had to do that because of a timing issue or something, it may not be necessary. This was with the 7.x desktop software. If you try using the 103D command set from Harmony it might accomplish what you need.

I have a UDP 203 that I bought shortly after they became available. I had previously used an Oppo 80 since I bought it new after they came out. When the 205 came out I was considering buying one as I wanted the headphone and USB DAC capabilities. However, Oppo added MQA to the 205. That put an end to the 205 for me. I did not want anything infected with MQA in my system.

It appears that the firmware update is the same for the 203 and 205. Does the firmware update install any aspect of MQA on the 203?

The 203 does not support MQA, as I think you know.

However, since you feel so strongly about this, it would be wise to assume that some aspect of MQA code IS installed in the 203, even if that code is never executed. And even if the 203 doesn't have the HARDWARE to execute that code if it tried. (Different DACs, for example.)

This sort of implementation detail is not something OPPO typically reveals, but you've got nothing to lose asking OPPO Tech Support to see what they say.

Equipment manufacturers that work in conjunction with MQA to provide MQA support generally sign non disclosure agreements. This seems especially so with MQA.

My concern is that Firmware that enhances MQA might degrade non MQA music performance.

I've seen no indication that non-MQA audio quality was impaired in the 203 or 205 starting with the firmware that added MQA support to the 205.

UHD does spin faster than other discs so extra noise is possible. Do you notice a pattern to the noise? Louder at the beginning, quieter as you chapter skip into the title, maybe becoming louder again past the half-way point?

Bill:

Yes, the player does quiet down a lot, and remains very quiet, when it plays into the main content of the disc.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Thank you for pointing this out.
The variable speed optical drive runs at its highest speed when it is bulk loading content from the disc. For example, high speed is used while loading the disc’s BD-Java program, and while loading the on-disc menus.

MQA material carries a flag to identify it and MQA processing should only be applied to MQA material. Non MQA material is supposed to be processed without the application of any MQA processing so non MQA content performance should not be degraded by MQA processing. Unfortunately I have seen test reports in Stereophile indicating that at least 1 DAC incorrectly applies some MQA processing to non-MQA material so it is possible for non MQA performance to be impaired by an MQA DAC. This happens because the DAC manufacturer is implementing the MQA software incorrectly so it's a device manufacturer issue rather than an MQA issue. I have seen no indication that this problem is occurring with the 203 or 205.

What surprises me about this is that MQA are supposedly maintaining tight control over manufacturers who are adopting MQA, just like Dolby does over manufacturers in respect of Dolby Vision. It would seem that MQAs certification processes or whatever it is they do pays close attention to MQA performance but they don't seem to care if their processing is incorrectly applied to non MQA content.

In the absence of any reports indicating that the 203 and 205 are getting it wrong I'm inclined to side with Bob and believe this isn't a problem with the 203 and 205 but I guess it is possible that a future firmware update could introduce the problem noted with some other DACs. Correctly implemented, MQA processing should not be applied to non MQA material and therefore should not affect music performance.

Hooked up Hugh Dean's SAKSA 85 diy amplifier to my 203 via the RCA FL FR outs and played some flac music and sounds pretty darn good. The amp is a winner. Thinking I might sell my Rotel 1585 5ch 200wpc and build 11 channels with this board.

My understanding is that units were still in the pipeline until June, but that probably depends on shipping schedules and other unforseeables.

I don't know if OPPO will announce "last batch is here" or just ring a bell and say "DONE!"

Crutchfield no longer lists the 203 or the 205.

Not even a mention of Out of Stock.

The only entry is for the players' rack mounts.

Also, the root folder on a BD-R needs to be "AVCHD" as well or the Oppo won't recognize it as a movie disc. I found this out recently with the Reference 2 Bluray Demo Disc created by AVS members.

Put in a larger number, be sure to cancel unless you want a very large CC bill. There is a 1000 showing now.

On the order page enter some large quantity and hit the Update Totals. I just put in 1000 and they have at least that many...

Did we really need all those Amp/theater images. Just wondering? How about using spoiler?

Question Excited about my 1st Oppo ! Please offer me best "settings" for the 203;no 4K TV yet

Really excited to have just purchased an Oppo 203 on line last evening ! My first Oppo after about three Panasonic blu-rays that have been very good- between 5-9 years old. I am asking you folks if you would kindly offer me a list of "best settings" for initial setting up the 203. I should note that I have yet to purchase a 4K television (likely an LG OLED C8 this summer)...but for now, I have a plasma (Panasonic ST 50 ), which of course is a 1080p max. So HDR is irrelevant to me at this particular time. I have no receiver on it either, so it would be straight UHD blu-ray player directly into the TV's HDMI.

Thanks for your experience with this unit's settings. Looking forward to sharing about my newfound Oppo excellence !
