^ Nothing is known publicly about the upcoming 205. It's all speculation at this point.

Which is fine; the Oppo can deal with 4K but not HDR, and I'm unaware of any satellite broadcaster that can even transmit HDR.

Judging by the popularity of the 105, you'd think they would make a similar unit. Just bung on sone Atmos outs, and hopefully tidal...

OPPO has said they are still the investigating support for HDR on the HDMI Input. They are certainly aware of the interest. But no promises yet.

As HDR support on the HMDI you're referring to rendering video and not simply pass-through, right? [Slightly rhetorical here.]

Shush-up, as my Mother would say. Don't give 'em any ideas.

Are you kidding me? These beta testers are gems, invaluable. They're the only sane posters on here..., okay, semi-sane.

Just for the record is it breaking the NDA to admit you received a 205 for evaluation? Also, in the course of your 203 eval, did Oppo supply you with media for the sake of consistency?

I hope they don't include MQA; I just don't want to feel foolish for slapping down the moolah for a so-equipped stand-alone DAC and Oppo's inclusion would do just that.

Now back to the 203 owners forum where, in the blink of an eye, I'm 25 some odd pages behind.

New UHD TV lies unboxed in the spare bedroom, the 203 slated to arrive Friday. Now you know what I'm doing for New Year's.

Yes it is. I'm sure we can guess some that are, but making it official would open the Beta Testers to all kinds of PM spam, such as "Since you're a Beta Tester you have to tell Oppo they really need to ......." Or "Tell Oppo they have to release this player by the 25th so I can give it to myself for my birthday." They don't need that kind of hassle.

Hey guys,

I'm in the market looking for an UHD player. I have a 55inches KS8500 but will probably upgrade to a 65" OLED next year (I love OLED but not convinced by the image retention and supposed judder). I also have a ps4, ps3, chromecast ultra, and an entry level surround sound with atmos, denon receiver etc.

Anyway back to the UHD player. I really like this Oppo UDP-203. Do you guys think I'd benefit (with my setup) from what it offers?

Also would it be worth it to wait for the 205? What would the 205 offer? I couldn't find any info!

I have a 55" OLED and am loving it.

205: that depends on your audio setup. Would you call yourself an audiophile and do you have a lot of legacy audio gear?

GOOD to know, have you experienced any issues when watchign movies/playing videogames? I wanted that TV but couldn't get the money so ended up getting a SUHD instead. I'm saving up and next year I'll get one and move this one to my bedroom. I recently moved to the US so I'm just starting out.

I got some stuff but all budget-entry. I would be an audiophile if I had more money haha. Eventually next year I plan to upgrade to some Elac Uni-Fi and probably a high-end receiver plus the Oled like I said.

The player would be connected to my Denon X1300W
2 xTowers JBL N38II, Elac Uni-Fi UC5 center, Old Bose 301 series IV surrounds, 2x elac atmos speakers.

All has been low-drama for me, although I don't do videogames.

Your best course is to check in on the owner threads for the displays you are considering. If there are problems they will be well explored there. Even if imaginary.

Sure! I'll check.

But basically my question would be. If you're connecting the Oppo to a mid/high end receiver, do you really need to get a player like the 205?

If you are using HDMI: definitely not. That will be the same between the two models.

Thanks! That's what I figured.

Is there an advantage in sound/picture if you use both hdmi 2.0 and the hdmi (sound only) ? or is that just for backwards compatibility?

The 203 looks impressive, I'm going to try and get it next year.

Thanks man!

Compatibility. HDMI is supposed to work with one cable only from the player, but with two it can accommodate a variety of issues with other gear.

The day it's released, I' m ordering one. But after the hysteria in the 203 anticipation thread, I'll probably check on this thread in a few months. Probably not much real news until it's release date.

Maybe we will see a prototype revealed at CES just like they did for the 203 at CEDIA.

Oppo could pull a total coup if they could get 3dlut on a uhd player :O. Just sayin. But I'm sure it's just audio focused and I'll have to wait another year or two for a higher end video focused unit, or just cave and get a radiance pro >_<.

Hi Dave,

My very best anticipated guess is that it's going to look very very very similar to this:

The video Diag. jack won't be there, and the two USB ports are going to be the 3.0 version (blue), and they'll be a trigger In and Out jacks.

Wonder if OPPO will beef up or provide more flexibility on the headphone amp on this model...

(My 105 doesn't drive my Audeze LCD 3 headphones very well with 5.1 movie soundtracks.)

Unless you have a projector, any 4K TV will have streaming Netflix.

If you don't have 4K there's no reason to upgrade from a 10X player.
