True, though scaling and de-interlacing are not as complicated as dynamic range conversion apparently! I rarely see much difference in decent gear.

UHPH1 does a good job with 1080p to 2160p, think the 800 will too.

Found a review, not an extensive or thorough one, but something that gives more like first impressions.

I like that is says Amazon and Netflix HDR...

I dont see why Sony wouldn't add DV if the player can do it, and I dont doubt that it can. I mean if you are Sony, dont you want the player being bought with all your fancy XBR's?

Just another lousy internet review if you ask me, and doesn't ANYONE run copy through an editorial process any longer?

It wasn't special, but it has confirmed one thing already stated in another article, Sony CAN add DV if they choose.

Two, it stated HDR for Amazon and Netflix, which would be huge for me if true.

After reading that review, I wouldn't trust the info it provides or the opinions that it offers very far. It's mostly regurgitated marketing copy illustrated with Sony-provided images of the unit, sprinkled with some very amateurish commentary. I wonder if they even had the player in-hand, because there's precious little data in the piece that you can't find yourself doing a Google search.

I think we should all wait for YOUR review once you get yours!

Yes, this is whats know as a fishing website. The idea is to make it look like a review, and get you the reader to click on the links in the body of the "review" to other sites. That way they can collect advertising revenue.

This is a complete garbage "review". There is no review. This is merely a authors interpretation of Sony press copy and other information out there on the net.

Take from it what you want. I don't know if the information they provide is 100% accurate or not. I just know there weren't any other on hands experiences with the player. So when I found this article, I thought it may be helpful to some people.

check under order status. It should give you a ship by date. I ordered mine Saturday and it says it'll ship by this incoming Wednesday

Pre-ordered mine from BB on the 10th (first day). Still shows "Processing" with an estimated ship date "on or before Thurs. Feb. 23rd". Unless I get an email tomorrow with tracking... I'm not holding my breath.

"Preparing" is a good sign. I believe that indicates the item is in hand to be boxed and shipped.

I'm still showing "processing".

My order looks exactly the same. I'm confident it will ship tomorrow and I should have it by Friday.

BestBuy.com is usually pretty good with the logistics. Home delivery is another story however...

I'm still hoping for HDR->SDR with BT2020 ...... That would be awesome
The only Player so far capable of doing this is Oppo 203.... But this one is way to expensive here in Germany

Looking at the Sony product page for the umpteenth time, I just noticed something that got by me before that is pretty rare...bluetooth transmission.

Most AVRs, disk players, TVs, and streaming boxes receive bluetooth, but this is the only one that I recall that will transmit bluetooth. Yea!!

'Capable' is not the proper word. 'Hopefully eventually capable' is more accurate.

Yup!

The Panny 900 does it very nicely, problem is you have to spend even more $$$ on a HDFury.

So the Panny 900 or the 704 does a better job with the linker instead of the oppo 203?? then i would still be cheaper than the oppo

Yes, the 900 + HD Fury does a better job than the 203 currently with SDR 2020.

I'll watch to see if they show up in stores first and will cancel my preorder if needed. No point in being impatient since my options are slim. The Panny/Fury combo is too expensive and the Oppo is a work in progress. I just upgraded to an E Shift projector so it's not like standard Blu-rays look awful in the meantime.

Oppo was $250 more than the Sony here. And cheapest I saw the Panny was $50 more than the Oppo. And then you have to buy a Fury...

Btw...My mother was born in Lubeck and moved to the US in her 20's.
