Haven't posted in a while, but I've been following this thread. UBP-x800 is on the way. Pre-order from BB originally showed a 2/23 shipment date, but received an email today that it has been shipped with a 2/24 delivery. Will post thoughts (on an owner's thread) once I run it through the paces.

Funny thing is, is that if you walk into Best Buy today then you can have it ordered for pick up for the 25th in my area (Bay Area) looks like I'm cancelling my February 27th delivery date unit

The Panasonic doesn't do SDR BT2020 (except you are using an Linker)..... or am I wrong?

Best Buy allowed me to order for store pickup this Saturday. Seeing that my pre order has not shipped yet I went ahead and placed a second one since I don't see my original order arriving any earlier. I'll cancel or return the one that arrives last.

The "add to cart" button is back at Best Buy. My order will be ready for in-store pick up on 2/25.

Mine is "Out for Delivery.

Like a couple of others, I am going out of town tomorrow.

I will try at a minimum to get it hooked up and see if it will produce SDR with BT2020 without any drama...with some screen shots.

I am not as concerned about overall PQ. My current Sony BDP-S7200 puts up an upscaled bluray picture that is crisp and clean with vibrant color.

I just want to see how much better it will be with UHD.

Traditionally Sony has not cared about network file play in full HD audio. Will this player play MKVs with full HD audio? Or I am just optimistic..

You need a linker or HDfury....I forget not everyone has one already But it does it very well, which is why I am curious what the Sony can do.

They have strongly hinted at it, but have not used the exact terms SDR BT2020. Nor would support comment. But they did take a shot at oppo by mentioning "stripping metadata."

That's why it will be interesting to see what it actually can do. My main need is SDR BT2020. I hd both the Oppo and Panny. I sent the Panny back hoping the Oppo would be fixed before my 90 day return. It's still not. I've re-ordered the Panny and will try the Sony as well. Oppo is going back.

Well BB in my area says available for pickup Saturday so I ordered one to pickup. Hopefully, I'll have the Panasonic, Oppo, and Sony to compare this weekend.

You have more stamina than I do if you're going to give all three of them the Pepsi challenge. Make sure to carb up and drink lots of fluids prior to the marathon...

Lol. Well honestly I know the Oppo. I don't need to compare it and it's going back. I know the Panasonic pretty well as I had one in December. If the Sony can't do SDR B2020, game over. If it has the same banding/clipping as the Oppo, game over. If it does both of those things well, then things get interesting! The Sony is half the price, so if it is as good as the Panasonic it's a no brainer. Something tells me the Panasonic will still best the Sony for SDR Bt2020 conversion, if it even does it at all.

This is what it shows for my area today online at the BestBuy site. It says I can order it and pick it up at any of the 20+ stores in my area on Saturday the 25th.

I'm thinking about going ahead and placing an order. Since I will have 45 days to return it, I'll also have 45 days to price match if the prices drops. Or I might just wait until they have stock in store. To make things easier to deal with.

I wonder if the reason it shows it can be picked up on the 25th in my area is because they plan on having stock in the stores this weekend?

That's what it seems like, in my area they have availability to pick up in store on the 25th on several diff. locations. Though I wanna read a few reviews first before I pull the trigger. Especially b.c its such a hassle to return stuff at BB.

I've seen em not take your word that the equipment is faulty and then they do their own testing on it first; in store. Then if the equipment isn't acting up at that very moment they charge you a restocking fee.

This. I never have an issue when returning things to BBY, actually its usually quite the opposite. It may help that they all know me on a first name basis and I've done a good job of chatting up most of the people there.

If you don't have to feed your instant gratification monkey and order it from their website instead, returns are as painless as they can be. If you're within your return window you simply select the reason you're sending it back and they issue the RMA automatically. No justification or in-store testing required, and no restocking fee.

I don't doubt there are idiots working there sometimes. But the return policy is clear. All you have to do is say you don't like it, don't want it, changed your mind....doesn't matter. If you're within your return window they have to take it back.

If you order online and pickup at the store, can you still return via shipping instead of in store?
