Thanks for the reply. I guess I had assumed that anything from the HDR Channel would actually be in HDR, but perhaps not. I'll check out a few others.

Where is the 'nerd stats icon' to be found?

Also, to clarify: you say the "videos play properly." Do you see the HDR badge when you go to the picture adjustments menu? I mean, they look awesome on my 900E, apparently even without HDR being engaged.

While on streaming, click on pause and go to the options menu then click on the icon on the far right - that'll be the nerds stats which will show all the source info.

HDR Channel has HDR videos.
When playing youtube video with hdr you should get:
- HDR badge in youtube player (just beside 4K badge)
- HDR badge in your picture settings (SONY tvs)
nerd stats icon is available during playback as one of the options in the second menu.

Possible problems with your setup:
- cable, it needs to be 18Gbps, Blurays play fine when you have 4K/24p/HDR but youtube requires the bandwidth of 4K/60/HDR to be available
- wrong HDMI input port, not sure about 900E but A1 only has two 18Gbps capable ports
- your HDMI inputs on your TV are not set to enhanced (it sets 18Gbps manually, it is set to off for compatibility reasons by default)
- your youtube player is not updated (but I fail to see how it can be a possibility with X800 that requires you to be always up to date)

Since you have turned on the enhanced option my bet is on cable.

Thanks for that. I hadn't seen that before - quite useful!

That's a very good summary of the potential pitfalls in getting HDR.

In my case, all of that was in order, as I was getting HDR with UHD BD's with my X800. Turns out that @Sharp1080 was correct - the "HDR" Youtube videos I happened to pick were not in fact in HDR, even though they were labeled as such. I found some others that were, and the HDR badge showed up when going to picture settings, as expected.

Some quite spectacular demos are available, which really show off what this set can do!

I have also found that skipping forward to the next video then skipping back also will activate HDR videos that weren’t activating HDR on the first try.

When I stream YouTube the picture stalls often, sometimes completely freezes. Only about 12 feet from the modem. The Youtube app in the Tv right above it has no issues streaming. Any thoughts?

I've found HDR inconsistent. Between my firetv, Roku, and x800 I can see all the HDR channels videosd in hdr.

Why hi there everyone, question for all those in the know I'm looking to upgrade my player prior to my display and was wondering how the image quality is of a 4K disc on a 1080 display with the UBP-X800. Your thoughts and experience is greatly appreciated.

I have the X-800 and Harmony 650 remote, and do not experience the issue you have described. The remote controls the player just as well as the remote that came with the X800 (and that remote is now stored away, along with all my other OEM remotes). I did not adjust any of the default settings or add any delays in the setup of the Harmony.

Does anybody know if I need an adapter 220-110V for the USA player or if the player works with both voltage as well?

I find HDR to be spotty on the youtube app. I am running Monoprice certified 4K cables, however on HDR content on Youtube I get constant flickering. Wondering if there are better cables I should try? I am running Vizio P55>Yamaha A660> Sony X800. All HDMI cables are the same.

If there is flickering (not buffering or stuttering, which would indicate insufficient bandwidth on your internet connection), that is certainly suggestive of a cable issue.

Getting 18gbps cables, especially at lengths greater than 15 or so feet, can be hit or miss. Even having "premium certified" cables is not a guarantee, even though it should be.

What is your longest length?

I got this setup last week and finally had a chance to do some testing over the long weekend. The one Ultra BD that I have (The Martian) played flawlessly. But I tried both a BD and a DVD and both mysteriously stopped at one point, black screen. Hitting play started it back up from the place it left off. I sort of remember someone else upthread having this problem but I am too lazy to sort through 200+ pages. I really haven't played too much with the apps yet as this will only be a backup for my streaming, as I have both a Roku Premiere and a Fire stick. I haven't tested a music CD yet.

Any ideas why the player would just stop like that?

All cables are 6ft monoprice certified cables. Swapping around cables results in the same issue.

Weird. Are you able to play UHD Discs in HDR without issue? If that works fine, that would suggest your cables are ok. Do you have any video, or a more precise description of the 'flickering' you're experiencing? That might help determine where the problem is.

You'll need a step down transformer to "step down" the 220v to 120v. The player accepts 120v.

Just for a test go into picture settings see if screen shift is on. When you get the flickering see if turning it off stops the flickering. I get it occasionally and when I do I turn screen shift off and it stops. When I switch channels I turn it back on and all is well n

OK just bought this player yesterday from BB. Still using a Panasonic Plasma. I've read through about 30 pages on this thread and could not find anyone that has the settings for the X800 to a 1080p display. Sorry if was stated and overlooked them. My question is what is the best video settings for my display? Any help will be appreciated. So far really love it although I've only used for a few Bd movies. Coming from an Oppo BD-83 that bit the dust after purchasing it when it came out. Thanks in advance for any help.

i just plugged mine directly and there was no smoke, so i think its safe to say the Sony UBP-X800 is dual voltage (YMMV).

And to answer the question before it's asked, all my videos are Region 1. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

So it seems i was wrong, based on what someone posted i decided to plug mine directly and it works so its safe to say the player is dual voltage, but try at your own expense.

It's there as I found it right away. Not the exact name I had posted earlier.
