Depending on the Display it will downscale, however it is safer to set the output to 1080P so there are no compatibility problems. The deck is supposed to sense the display is 1080 P, however sometimes, it does not happen, especially if you have Darbee in the video path. I would advice setting the output to 1080P.
Most players today scale to 4K by default too.
