Atmos

When you set a 4K Atmos movie setting to Atmos does the display indicate Dolby Atmos or just Dolby True HD? Are True HD and ATMOS one and the same?

If you are addressing me, I should clarify: the display to which I'm referring is the one on my AVR, the Sony STR-DN1080.

Any idea's anyone? Cheers, Mark
I watch a lot of MKVs and some M2TS files on my X800 and have never had any playback problems at all. Perhaps it's something to do with the USB drive you have attached not running fast enough?

OFFICIAL Sony UBP-X800 Owners Thread (No Price Talk)

I’m not seeing anything to confirm this but I’m guessing there is no way to get a UHD streaming title to play Atmos? I’ve got a Sony 900e and x800 player along with an ATV. Everything I’m seeing is the x800 is the only option for vudu with Atmos support but then saw another place the x800 won’t do it. Any direction is appreciated. I don’t Have any vudu 4K streams Atmos at the time as all my 4ks are in the iTunes(redeemed mainly under non 4K with free upgrade to 4K). Before I switch to vudu for 4K Atmos titles I want to be sure I’ll get Atmos.

toddn149,
I would read up on VUDU, as I think that you need a ROKU or XBOX1 to get ATMOS. I think there is a list somewhere....

Not sure... Open a UHD title that should have ATMOS. Click on "See Details" and see what you see!

Good idea I assumed it would show UHD regardless like the iTunes versions do until you play them. I’ll check it out and thanks!

My best method with picture and audio for streaming 4k & Atmos has been through Vudu using Roku Premiere Plus. Its good and if one didnt know better most would be happy. Thus, I stream here and there, but by far prefer the actual physical media. So much more data gets delivered to AVR & TV that way.

Got mine on a refurb deal from Best Buy a few days ago. Been thoroughly enjoying tinkering with discs, and updating TV setting to suit, etc. One thing I have really like about this unit is the sound quality. Yes, on 4K discs, the sound seems, to me, better than BD. Also, I am running a drive with music files. A little bit of everything from Youtube rips to FLAC files - it all sounds really, REALLY good! Lastly, I usually listen to music in 2 channel, unless specifically surround DVD-A or SACD on a BDP-103. I find that I have really been digging the NEO 6 Music soundfield. Vocals sound great, and bass is taut and the rear channel effect is subtle and enjoyable. Highs seem more mellow to me as well. High hats and cymbals sound incredible. I do not ever recall finding this quite as enjoyable from my 103 or from bluetooth source, etc. Blu Ray upsampling is also excellent! Very pleased wit this purchase...now I just need to get an HDR capable TV!

The Sony X900E series goes quite well with the X800. That's my combo and I'm super impressed.

You can get Atmos from Vudu with any device that allows bitstreaming. So for instance, I have no problem getting Atmos from the Vudu Atmos test videos(Which are HDX) with over two dozen devices. Including the x800. The problem with Atmos from Vudu titles is that only the UHD encodes have Atmos. So if a device doesn't have access to the uhd encodes, like the x800, then you can't get the Atmos audio.

This sure looks a lot like an HDMI cable throughput issue. Remember, the data rate of all content is not the same. Maybe Warner Brothers discs have higher data rates than other discs, in which case an issue with cable throughput would surface but might not be seen on lower-bit rate discs.

This makes sense and really seems like all these companies need to get UHD HDR streaming down! Having 3 different devices and getting 3 different outputs seems sad but I guess I should just be happy with what I have. I guess at this point Atmos for me will only be disc related. I’m not going to go buy another device just to tap into it.

I'll definitely double check my cables then. Thanks for the tip.

I ejected the disc and put it back and it didn't do it again, so maybe it was a glitch in the Matrix. The Dark Knight however kept doing it. I ended up sending it back to WB for an exchange.

Since I do have a collection of regular Blu-ray discs I was wondering if this player would play these discs better on my 4K TV that my existing Blu-ray player or with the playback be only marginally if at all better?
If you read this review posted by another user it specifically says that a great benefit of the X800 is it's scaling to 4K.

My Blue Ray disks look awesome played through this player so I agree with the review posted, it makes 1080p movies look almost as good as native 4k movies. It plays all the HD audio formats and is pretty good at networked files, and I'm pretty sure Plex was added to one of the apps that's included so it does everything.

I'm pretty sure but I'll have to go and see where I found it to make sure. I have a Roku 4 ultra that has full 4k HDR support and works very nicely, my Hisense TV has 4k support in Google and Amazon, and I have a older Android media player box that can output4k but doesn't support 4k apps so it gets a bit confusing so I'll go double check and report back. There you go, right off my TV in the VEWD app which I think they call Opera TV from the home page. Go play around and see what it does I know it works but I like My Roku better and don't remember if it was 4k but considering it SHOULD be.

Just cause the information on VUDU lists stuff does not mean the player will play it.

I appreciate hearing this, as I have a 900e and I am considering buying a x800 to go with it. I wonder though, do you experience any "oversampling" when watching a standard BD? I am just curious if this happens because both the player and the tv are trying to upscale simultaneously? If anyone has any input on this, I would appreciate it.

If I knew what oversampling was I'd tell you. I don't have the X800 upscale, I let the 900E do the upscaling as the X1 chip is pretty amazing.

Yes, it has been available for a while under the "Opera" streaming app. There are multiple apps within Opera and Plex is one of them. Opera merged with another company and depending on your version, the Opera application may show up under another name but I can't remember it. If you search the forum for "Plex" you should find it.

Yes, it has been available for a while under the "Opera" streaming app. There are multiple apps within Opera and Plex is one of them. Opera merged with another company and depending on your version, the Opera application may show up under another name but I can't remember it. If you search the forum for "Plex" you should find it.
Just did that! Thank you so much. I would have never known.

Today I got tiered of the X800 flashing and displaying green snow on Netflix and Hulu so I contacted Sony support and they are exchanging it for a new one. I received the shipping label from them, boxed it up and dropped it off at he local shipping location. I really like this player and haven't heard anyone complain about their replacement units. So I'm without 4K disks for 7 to 10 days! yuck.

My set up: Samsung UN82nu8000 LED TV, Marantz SR7012, Emotiva XPA3, Sony UBP-X800
Roku 4k Premier, Panamax MR4000, 2 Marantz MA-500U, Klipsch RB81II (L/R),
RC62II (center), R-1650-W (surrounds), RB61II (Rear Surrounds),
Monoprice 6.5" in ceiling speaker (top front/rear), Two Klipsch R-10SW subwoofer

First time on this thread. Just jumped to the last page here. I own this player.

Anyone here have any problems with lip sync? I have lip sync issues, but I don't know where it is coming from. So I am stabbing in the dark asking here.

Out of this player, I have the video going directly to the TV, and the audio going to my receiver. I was watching a movie the other night. At the beginning and the end of the movie, no lip sync issues. But in the middle of the movie, it might have been 2 seconds off.

Ps - if there are any generally suggested settings I should follow, please point me to the post. Thanks.
