I seem to recall seeing DD+ on my receiver. But I think it was coming from my TV at the time. I don't think the X800 does DD+ from Netflix.

Streaming apps are a complete format sh*t-show. Sony puts Netflix on thier TV's and Netflix on their blu-ray players and they don't even provide the same level of digital audio formats.

Mine plays most movies just fine, fortunately the lock ups are not a constant thing, at least in my case, but about once a month or so it will lock up mid movie and you have to hard reset it.

Sony sends DD from Netflix with their UHD BD players. No idea why since other apps like Amazon and Vudu send DD+. Since they don't have access to the Atmos tracks on Netflix it really doesn't matter. The Sony players convert the 192kbps DD+ to 640Kbps DD which is easily equivalent to the 192kbps DD+ that Netflix tracks use.

Anyone's you-tube app totally dead? I launch you-tube and it just shows the logo screen indefinitely. I have to turn off the power to get back to the main menu. Works fine on my TV's you-tube app.

You have to unfortunately do personalization reset. Then reload the apps. And again unfortunately resign in too all the apps you use. I had to do this yesterday. Other than a inconvenience it worked like a charm.

You don't have to turn off the power. Just press the blue HOME button on the remote. What I did to correct the YouTube app not working was reset my X800 to factory default. But before that - I went into each setting (screen, audio, bluetooth settings, etc.) and took a pic of each screen. This made it easy to record my desired settings - and worked like a charm.

Someone on here said they simply chose the other option in the RESETTING menu - Initialize Personal Information - and then entered the passwords to the apps again.

This should get you back on YouTube.

Good luck.

My youtube was out yesterday morning, but came back on its own after approx. 30 minutes.

For anyone having YOU TUBE problems on their player....

Since some people don't go back and read earlier posts......
I have re-posted my earlier post that has helped many members restoring YOU TUBE to their players:

Great news!
I said to myself let me first try on my 800 player:
Setup > Resetting > Initialize Personal Information
There are (2) choices to be found here:
(1) choice will RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS
and (1) choice will just INITIALIZE PERSONAL INFORMATION
BEFORE I attempt the dreaded RE-setting of all my setttings BACK to FACTORY DEFAULT and re-entering all my settings (a pain!!!) I said to myself let me choose first to just INITIALIZE PERSONAL INFORMATION first to see if that works to restore YOU TUBE on my 800
Because I believe all I had to do is get back to re-starting my YOU TUBE app with the code it gives you to sign on with my laptop to activate your YOU TUBE acct.
And it worked!
YOU TUBE is back on my 800 WITHOUT the dreaded re-setting of all my settings/restoring it to FACTORY DEFAULTS.
All my settings remained and YOU TUBE is back!!! (and that includes YOU TUBE videos in 4K and HDR on such YOU TUBE channels as "The HDR Channel" and "Future, etc")
The only thing I noticed I have the "older" YOU TUBE version (I had a newer YOU TUBE version that I was just getting familiar with when this dreaded fiasco appeared this week)...now I have YOU TUBE back but the "earlier" version.

Three freezes watching "The Last Jedi" 4K disk...the disk did have smudges on it which I checked after the second freeze...cleaned disk, using eye glasses cleaner/cloth, still froze one more time. Freeze ups occurred during chapter transitions and cleared after a few seconds.
Still annoying and I'll probably replace it at the Black Friday sales...sucks as it is generally a very good player and I hate to lose the money I spent.

Has Sony said anything about this issue? Have they ever addressed it? I mean I don't get them for some odd reason. Just once watching the movie fantastic beasts. I watched unstoppable last night and it looked amazing and played straight through but it was not 4k, just regular Blu Ray. By the way I forget sometimes just how amazing regular Blu Ray looks upscaled which I let the 900E do the upscaling. Just incredible.

I hope and suspect they did that at least but have they said they know what the issue is? The laser, firmware, the drive itself?

Can’t see any reports that show that, ie, they are treating it like a normal failure rate.

Argo extras

Has anyone tried the Argo Bluray picture in picture interview extras? I can get the picture to come up, but the sound continues to be the movie sound instead of the PinP interview sound. The subtitles do switch over to a different set for the PinP, but not the sound.

The movie plays fine in both 4k and Bluray. I tested the PinP sound on a 5+ year old LG Bluray player and it worked as expected. Have I found a FW bug in the X800?

Best guess is that you have to turn BD Audio Mix On.

It needs to be off to allow bitstreaming, which is required for Atmos, but if it is off, that kills secondary audio, which may be how the PnP audio is encoded.

If that’s not it, I got nothing.

Differences between x700 and x800?

Is it safe to say the only difference between the Sony x700 and x800 is that the 700 is not built as good but does come with Dolby Vision (via firmware) ...

Anything else I'm missing?

I don't own a 4K player but I just bought my first set of 4K movies and want something to convert from HDR-SDR so I can watch on my 1080p screen.

Streaming isn't much of a big deal to me since I have other options for that. Unless these players are capable of something visual or audio wise that the Xbox One or Roku etc etc can't do....

I didnt even think.of it like that, but you're right. I guess it's cuz I always just used my Blu-ray player for discs only. Good point tho, hmm...

Thanks for the quick feedback guys, I appreciate it. Apparently there's a way to "Like" a post but on my mobile view it doesn't have any options like that, so yeah...

Help!

I have the X800. My warranty is up April 18th.
I had the same trouble with Youtube as everyone else.
I reset the player. All settings.
Now, I can get Youtube, but I can't sign in.
I've tried everything. Amazon went right through.
I do get the code to enter in my computer, but it doesn't take.
I need to know if anybody out there in Bluray land can sign
in to Youtube with this player, or do I have to call Sony.
I have until sometime next week to resolve this.

Any help will be appreciated.....

Are you using other than Chrome or an Android device for the web authorization? It would only work on Chrome for me.

Just bought one of these because a) I really wanted to watch Blade Runner (the original) with Atmos, and b) because I wanted a new toy.

The HDR to SDR is not at all the disaster I expected. I barely noticed any issues and the added detail of the remaster, even in 1080p, and Atmos more than make up for them.

The streaming apps are much faster than on my Oppo 103 and unlike the Oppo the Sony can do YouTube in 1080p.

So far so good. I'm looking forward to using it with an HDR-capable display. My current non-HDR projector is an Epson so it should croak soon and force me to upgrade.

I've had my new X800 for about a month and I've had the Quick Start disabled. Overall there have been fewer issues. But I'm still having a lot of freezing issues while watching videos on my hard drive. Happens at least once each time I watch a movie.

Has anyone discovered a fix?

That’s weird. Most or all of the freezing reports have been with disk based media iirc.

Do they stream fine to other devices?
