Any modern BD player can bitstream DTX-X or Dolby Atmos IF the source contains the format. It's up to the RECEIVER to decode the signal , not the player. If the source has a Dolby ATMOS track, the BD player is set to bitstream AND the receiver is ATMOS capable, is all you need. My OPPO 93 bitstreams ATMOS, my Sony 6500 does as well.
Onedark1 and yanks1 like this.

I was so happy without HDR...

Just have HDMI Audio Output set to AUTO,, no need to switch to 192 unless you are using the Optical Output Jack..

Supposedly Sony said they might upgrade the player for Dolby vision. If and only if they feel like the consumer needs it. I'm doubtful they will since the x1000es is coming out and will be considered the most future proofed player by Sony standards. So probably the x1000 will get Dolby vision. I would say though the song x800 is amazing and I'm completely happy with it but yeah knowing Dolby vision is supported would be amazing to know.

Correct,, THe X800 seems to default after the firmware upgrade to PCM output on the X800. Needed to switch HDMI audio to AUTO to stream Atmos and DTS-X to my Yamaha..

Don't always believe them. My Sony rep told me in January that the PS4 pro was going to get a uhd player update in February. He was obviously wrong about that, but he did tell me a month ahead that the x800 would be $299. The x1000es is going to be way pricer than x800. like 3x more

The Revenant, in my opinion, probably has the most naturalistic use of HDR of any of the titles I own. It's I think the most "looking through a window" type image I've seen in a home video release. However, if you want eye popping this-is-what-HDR-is demo content, check out Lucy and Pacific Rim if you haven't already. Lucy from beginning to end just has a marvelous sense of detail and pop from beginning to end thanks to a very good HDR implementation. And the light show on display during the Hong Kong battle in Pacific Rim is similarly impressive. Looking at all of these 4K discs has me much more hopeful about 4K and, particularly, HDR in general. The first stuff I looked at when I got my X930D was Daredevil and Jessica Jones on Netflix. And I really think those shows in HDR just look bad. No restraint was used. Brightness was just cranked all over the place and in many instances they just look ODD. Luckily, after watching a couple episodes of the third season of Chef's Table, it seems that Netflix is getting a better handle on HDR.

I am not sure a Sony rep would know that information,, but I guess we can just wait a few years and see what develops.. With Dolby Vision requiring a copy wright licensing,, no way to activate that if Sony did not build it into its design.. As mentioned before, I would think Sony would say DV available with future software upgrade.. OK, well some light at the end of the tunnel .. Thanks for chiming in.

Sony already said the machine could do it! They said they will watch the market to determine if they add the ability.

HDMI Audio on the X800 or the Yamaha? I am running mine through a Yamaha RX-V 781. I am trying to figure out if I am getting the Atmos/DTS-X through the Yamaha. I do remember that when I implemented "straight" on the Yamaha, it did change and include my FPL and FPR speakers..Will Atmos or DTS-X display on the receiver? My apologies for the lack of knowledge. I am learning and growing by the minute by reading the posts...

Thanks in advance...

Yes, your Yamaha will display what audio format it is receiving, press the "info" button on the remote and it will cycle through different front panel display options.

You can also check if it is receiving an Atmos or DTS signal by looking at the on screen display under information/audio signal.

Who are all these "Sony reps" you guys talk about? Are these product managers for the Bluray player series? Even if they are PMs, I doubt Sony would ever share non public info with members of the public or media. Especially if you're undecided internally.

I posted this some time ago in this thread. Dolby announced a pure software implementation for Dolby Vision that can run on standard hardware (if capable). They already did a POC on a standard PS4. Licensing is available for this approach to manufacturers. I suspect, if I was a betting man, this will be the way Oppo are going. The reason why Oppo never had DV at release is that Dolby didn't have the software development kits ready for manufacturers. They are only available now.

I know a Sony regional manger that tells me some stuff. Like there was a huge launch party for the Sony uhd tv line and uhd players that occurred this past week but I didn't go. They had the x1000es there and I heard it was an amazing player.

Isn't the x1000ES basically the same as the X800? But with few extras like a 32 bit DAC etc. Things that you don't typically need when you keep the signal digital. Plus for use with Custom installers.

I finally registered my X800. I didn't realize I never registered any of my other Sony devices. I guess since I had extended warranties through Best Buy I never had reason to.

Hopefully the email comes quick for the two free titles. And I hope that I can also pick up the last couple of Sony UHD BD titles (at discount) that I need to complete my collection of all the Sony UHD BDs.

Another amazing extra will no doubt be the cost. I saw possibly 3x...too rich for my blood. I just ordered the X800...it'll be here Fri.

Yeah, in the 1000ES thread people are talking heavy duty chassis (800 already has it), extended warranty, blah blah blah, for a HIGH price.

I don't expect the 1000ES to offer anything over the 800 PQ wise, but I could be wrong. It does have a front display

Thanks in advance...

----If you hit on your 3060 Remote the DISPLAY BUTTON while an ATMOS Blu Ray is being played the info on screen on the left hand side bottom it will say ATMOS/TRUE HD.
----Furthermore if you hit the ON SCREEN BUTTON on your 3060 remote and go to INFORMATION the Input on screen will also say under FORMAT:ATMOS/TRUE HD.
----Furthermore if you press the INFO Button on your 3060 remote...the 3060 front panel will show which AUDIO DECODER is being played and by pressing the INFO Button again the 3060 will show what DSP PROGRAM is being played (this is the SAME info that is stated when pressing DISPLAY BUTTON on your remote and shows it on screen as I stated above).

I registered mine Thursday when I got it and still have not got mine. Granted it was after 10pm when I got home from work and Saturday and Sunday don't count so today if anything would be the 3rd business day. Maybe I will get it later or tomorrow if not I will have to call.

Check your spam folder. That's where I found the email from Sony with my claim code.

Is there anything concerning getting the Ultra app on this player? I have a lot of UHD movies that can only be redeemed on the Sony Ultra site. I have an LG OLED and a Samsung 4K bluray player, but willing to switch to the Sony 4K player.
