I waited till today to redeem my free Sony 4K movie code, I wanted to see it they were going to add "Passengers" to the choices. They didn't..

Since I have over half of the choices already on Blu-ray, I went with 2 upgrades from DVD, "Resident Evil-Afterlife" & "Underworld"

The ultra app is not available on this player (currently). I would suggest you contact Sony Pictures here and let them know you would like to see the App on the X800. Also write a forum post on the Sony community website here

Ask owners of this thread to support your post .... if enough folks support this, you never know .... it might influence Sony (Electronics or Sony Pictures) to add it.

I'm sure I read somewhere the Ultra app may be coming to the Shield ... but could be wrong. Have you tried sideloading it on your shield (a little off topic, for the x800 thread).

Isn't the x1000ES basically the same as the X800? But with few extras like a 32 bit DAC etc. Things that you don't typically need when you keep the signal digital. Plus for use with Custom installers.
Yeah the x1000es is mainly for audio purposes. Video wise it should be similar to x800 but maybe Sony will add their own flavor on strip meta data to Make the 1000es more appealing

The Revenant, in my opinion, probably has the most naturalistic use of HDR of any of the titles I own. It's I think the most "looking through a window" type image I've seen in a home video release. However, if you want eye popping this-is-what-HDR-is demo content, check out Lucy and Pacific Rim if you haven't already. Lucy from beginning to end just has a marvelous sense of detail and pop from beginning to end thanks to a very good HDR implementation. And the light show on display during the Hong Kong battle in Pacific Rim is similarly impressive. Looking at all of these 4K discs has me much more hopeful about 4K and, particularly, HDR in general. The first stuff I looked at when I got my X930D was Daredevil and Jessica Jones on Netflix. And I really think those shows in HDR just look bad. No restraint was used. Brightness was just cranked all over the place and in many instances they just look ODD. Luckily, after watching a couple episodes of the third season of Chef's Table, it seems that Netflix is getting a better handle on HDR.
I also have Lucy and pacific rim on UHD Bluray but I saw them on the Panasonic player I used to own. I'm goin to rewatch those on the Sony when I get a chance. I've have never seen the revenant. I was blown away by the PQ! This is what UHD is made for! I can't believe that some people think there is very little difference from 1080 to 4k hdr! But I guess it depends on the movie too!

Is anyone else having an issue with this player where it will randomly shut off? This has happened to me about 5 times already since buying it and it's really starting to annoy me. Only seems to happen when watching digital media on USB drive. It's not the drive, I've used this drive in many other devices with no issues. I am also on the latest firmware.

Only issue I have is when I boot up, many times if I check for FW it has an error checking, yet I will get a net services update, and I can go into Netflix and stream, so I know it isnt my connection.

What type of file format (Video codec, audio codec) are you trying to watch from the USB drive? I suspect its the file rather than the drive causing the player to crash ... and shut off. Have you tried watching the same file streaming from a DLNA server?

Dolby can easily take a retroactive license payment. I expect that if these players are technically capable they will add it... since the X1000 is a CI only device, it makes no sense why they would not add it to what will surely become this most ubiquitous stand alone UHD disc spinner in a very short period of time.

Just my .02 and IMO.

It's an X264 file running dolby digital 5.1 I'm really not sure if it's the files I run these files on other blu-ray players all the time with no issues.

URC remote codes

Appears this UBP-X800 code set is not the URC data base yet. Been trying some of the 2016 models to no avail. Does anyone hear have a Sony model from the URC database that the codes work?

Had a few episodes of pixelation while watching a 3D movie tonight. Once coupled with a loss of audio. I stopped and started the movie and the audio returned. The pixelation wasn't linked to a particular part of the movie either. Gonna have to see if it happens again. Would suck if I have to return or exchange this thing already.

I don't use URC and my Logitech remote worked fine with my UHD player but all the codes seem the same as my Sony S6500 Blu-ray player.

Yes, I'm running S790 codes that appear to work fine for me in an MX-900.
I should add since I'm here that the X800 is a fabulously well built player with excellent picture quality. Not a single issue so far. We are cat 6 hard wired at 850 mb speed so that helps the streaming aspect.
Enjoy!

Wired or WiFi? If WiFi, 2.4GHz or 5GHz? I've noticed that the player seems quite slow to link up to my 5GHz WiFi and I will be swapping it over to wired connection (I -hate- WiFi for these kinds of things).

5ghz and Cat 6.

It seems to have issue with my 5ghz, which could be because it is so close. It will say SS of 40%, where the Roku, Panny 900, LG OLED, etc... all work fine.

So, which is it? Hardwired via Cat6 or on a 5GHz SSID?

If you've got hardwired available, drop the WiFi setup and see if that helps. Don't ever leave both configured since most devices don't have intelligence built into them to decide on which connection is most stable or what-not. And, I don't believe these devices would be taking advantage of MPTCP to be able to hand connections between interfaces cleanly.

I said 5ghz AND cat 6 when you asked what my connection was. Ive tried both, and they both present the same problem with errors when checking for a FW update.

Ah... ok. Following along better now. Didn't realize you were initially saying that you tried both and had the same experience with both.

You've cleared the WiFi config, right?

I haven't had any real issues with networking except that it takes way too long to get initial connectivity for the apps to work. I stopped using NetFlix on the player and just run it on the TV now.

I've had no networking issues like that with my X800. It connects right away. Although I am using the wired connection right now. I haven't tested the wireless yet. But if it's like my Sony S6500 BD players, the performance over wireless will be identical to the wired connection.

Performance is fine. The issue is that it takes a long time to make the connection to the WiFi network itself. I already know that connecting to the Internet services takes about 30 seconds, and this extra delay makes it frustrating to have a machine that powers up so quickly only to remain unable to be used for about a full minute if I want to get access to something like Netflix.

No Dolby Digital + on Netflix (and others) is a no-go for me. My 5 year old Vizio TV does +! And yes, I do hear a difference on my system.

30 seconds? Why is it taking that long? When I go to Netflix everything is there right away. It pops up on the profile page first, then once I select the profile the main Netflix streaming page pops right up. The X800 has been very fast with Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu for me.

My understanding is that's a limitation of the App as Netflix doesn't support it.
