I picked that up too and have the same player/tv combo. It looks incredible! I also picked up Fantastic Beasts 4K blu ray and it too looks stellar! The difference that HDR makes is remarkable.

Turning off hdmi pass through on the receiver, as another member suggested, did solve this, but I need to keep that turned on for several other components that are connected to it, in order to use them when the receiver is off.
You would need to change the audio output to HDMI 1. Then you would get audio through the TV. At least I know that works with the apps in my setup. Not sure what the x800 will do from a disc in that situation though. If it can convert the audio from Dolby True HD/DTS-HD MA to a lossy codec the TV can use.

Good luck, and please let me know if you do! As long as you must have HDMI pass through activated on your receiver, I know of no way to do this other than manually setting the HDMI Audio Out on the X800 each time you want to switch between AVR audio and TV audio. But maybe someone else has a brilliant, more elegant solution....

X800 gets DV, and so does many TV Sets??? TBD, Fingers Crossed!

This was on a different Forum, Yamaha AV, so I wanted to share this with everyone!!! Keep our fingers crossed!!

https://www.cnet.com/news/dolby-visi...sole-near-you/

Dolby has announced that its HDR standard Dolby Vision is now fully software-based, meaning that existing devices such as consoles and televisions can take advantage of it.

"There are implementations that can run Dolby Vision in software, certainly in the console space but also in the TV SoC (System On a Chip) space," Dolby reps said Friday in Forbes.

Dolby Vision is a standard for High Dynamic Range (HDR) video that allows compatible displays and source devices to show content with much higher contrast and color saturation than previous broadcast material. It is a competitor to another standard, HDR10.

Many proprietary standards require specific hardware. And while there will be hardware implementations of Dolby Vision as well, offering a software version means customers won't necessarily need to buy a new TV to watch encoded content.

That means Dolby Vision could conceivably be added to a Sony PS4 or Microsoft Xbox One game console, or a streaming device like Nvidia Shield. All the device needs, according to Dolby reps cited by Forbes, is sufficient processing power.

Several products that support Dolby Vision are already on the market, including TVs from LG and Vizio, as well as the Google Chromecast Ultra streaming device. Sony said its Z9D television from 2016, as well as select 2017 models, will add Dolby Vision via a software update later this year.

At the moment, no discs or games have been released with Dolby Vision on board, but Amazon, Netflix and Vudu offer Dolby Vision streaming content.

One advantage that Dolby Vision has over HDR10 is that Dolby Vision won't require HDMI 2.0a to run. It will run with HDMI 1.4, which potentially allows compatibility with more legacy hardware.

Representatives from Dolby did not respond immediately to CNET's request for comment.

Are there any settings that need to be made when sending audio to a receiver and video to a TV? I connected my X800 in such a way to my Denon 4520 and my Sony 940D. I set the HDMI input on my 940D to Enhanced and left the Screen Settings on my X800 that have an Auto setting on Auto, but when I played a UHD blu ray, my 940D did not switch to HDR Video mode.

Accept what you have achieved as there is no perfect solution. The other is to turn off the OCD that we have within us?

Discussed many times in this thread... Not gonna happen on the x800. Maybe the x1000ES version.

Oh I do accept it. Both the solutions found so far, and the fact that I'm a little OCD about this stuff

I actually enjoy figuring this stuff out too. I suppose it should be accepted that we should not expect immediate 100% compatibility (the way we may be used to) when upgrading to the latest and greatest technologies and adding them to an existing setup.

When push comes to shove, I am just thankful that we folks on this forum are alive and fiscally able to enjoy this time of home cinema greatness.

I have been enjoying my X800 for over two weeks now. No problems encountered so far on four 4K UHD discs until this morning.

About 35-40 minutes into The DaVinci Code, I noticed the audio was suddenly out of sync by about a half second (I believe the sound was ahead of the picture). After a few minutes of this, I stopped playback and ejected the tray (did not do a power cycle; I left the player on). Then I closed the tray and it resumed where I left off and sound a picture were back in sync. The rest of the movie played without any issue.

Has anyone seen phenomena such as this with the X800?

It does. It shows up as "HDR > SDR" on the info screen. No idea if it keeps Rec. 2020 though.

I'd like to try and remove HDR but keep WCG. I'm getting very frustrated with overblown highlights and very dark shadows on my K8500 and RS400 and I'd like to know if its a player, projector or HDR issue. For many movies, the regular Blu-ray looks better.

You can turn HDR off on the player for all content regardless of if the display supports HDR. If you do this, and the player is playing HDR content, then it will do the HDR->SDR conversion. It converts Rec2020 to rec709. You are given a variable slider to fiddle with the conversion algorithm.

The Oppo has HDR strip yes, for SDR 2020, but it is not accurate yet. The Panny + linker is the best option BUT is the most costly. The Sony does SDR 709.

Philips does SDR 2020 + linker for cheap.

Where is your proof of this? Do you work for Sony? Just curious, because you sound so certain as if you were the responsible for its implementation in these units.

I've had my x800 a little over a week now. Having all kinds of problems: locked up with black screen, white flashes, long delay with solid purple screen, insisting there's no disc inserted when there is (I have to cycle the tray), won't eject, won't power off, won't play Planet Earth II disc 1 (but will play disc 2 & 3). I've had to power cycle it via plug at least 8 times to get it out of lock.

Most of the people here seem happy so I feel like I have a lemon.

Does anyone know of other Sony remotes that work with this unit. I was able to get a deal on an open box that had no remote. There was a Sony BD RMT-VB210U remote that didn't work with it. Just wondering which other one might work so I can buy it off eBay.

Thanks

My Sony BD player remotes from the last few years work with it. Unfortunately. Because of that I can't use my s6500 in the same room as my x800.

You probably do have a lemon. I got mine for a few days now and so far have not experience any of the problems you are having. I've only watched a few 4Ks and some blu-rays but so far it has been good. It could just be a placebo effect of the new player but it seems to me like this player does a really good job upscaling 1080p blu-tays to 4K that I almost don't want to double dip on some movies I have in blu-rays already. I'll probably just buy "4K reference" movies that I like from now on.

Not sure of the model numbers off hand. I would need to look when I get home. My s6500 from 2015 has a Netflix button. Not sure about my 2014 or 2013 Sony BD player remotes.

Some people have all the answers on new technology, even if they don't own the new technology...

I just picked up an X800 this week and I'm lovin' it!! Paired with an Epson 5040UB, it's the first time I've sent this unit 4K HDR (@24Hz) - absolutely fantastic picture.

Well done, Sony!!

I just picked up an X800 this week and I'm lovin' it!! Paired with an Epson 5040UB, it's the first time I've sent this unit 4K HDR (@24Hz) - absolutely fantastic picture.

Well done, Sony!!

:/
My Epson 5040ube and Sony UBP-X800 will be here from ABT Tomorrow, im excited! Next on the list is a new receiver.

I'm looking at two of my older Sony BD player remotes and they both have a Netflix button. One is model RMT-B126A.
The other is model RMT-VB100U.

I like the X800 remote better(which is model RMT-VB310U). Since it is longer and the buttons aren't placed as close together. Plus the transport buttons are layed out better.

OK. I was thinking they were the same thing. The X800 apps aren't even complete yet. Hopefully more apps show up during April. The previous BD players had tons of apps. So I would expect many of those to show up on the X800. I'm still hopeful that the Sony Ultra app will show up on the X800. Right now my SOny UHD TV is the only way I can access it.

Most of the people here seem happy so I feel like I have a lemon.
Lemon .... no. These all sound like hdmi handshake issues i'm afraid.
