Better pq quality then the sammy, on par with the panasonic IMO. Ive had both. You dont get as detailed as the panny with display info but it does tell you if youre watching 4k, 1080p, hdr, the bit rate, and audio details

Good and not so good with the update. Amazon is installed and working. Didn't try VUDU or Opera TV, but no other new apps appear to be available yet.

Other issue - Not getting HDR signal. Watching The Grand Tour through my TV app shows HDR, while through the Sony it shows 4k only.. Hmmmm

Deadpool playing in the Sony does show HDR so I'm assuming it has to do with the app. Other oddity is that the "Display" button doesn't show anything while in Amazon like it does while playing a Blu Ray.

Amazon seems to be giving only UHD (no HDR) to the blu-ray apps for some reason. Same thing the Panny 900 has, Netflix with HDR, Amazon no HDR.

Player's display button won't show anything on an App like Amazon, you gotta check your TV's source for details on that one.

Even if it does not, if it outputs 24hz properly it trumps the 900 slight on streaming.

My question is quite simply - can the X800 be set up to convert to DD 5.1 bit stream?? Neither of the Panny's do and i've not been overly impressed by what i've seen of the Sammy K8500. If the X800 does then all my prayers have been answered!!

Just hooked up the player today. Build quality is excellent, but one big problem. Player will not turn on HDR when playing "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," the only 4K/60P release so far. The promos at the beginning of the disc, the menus, and the Sony logo all cause the player to properly enable HDR on my TV, but as soon as the movie starts, the frame rate goes to 4K/60P, and will play in SDR only. Have tried all possible HDMI settings, even turning off upscale settings (although up-scaling should not affect playback with a 4K disc). Also checked deep color enable and disable on both the player and my display (LG 65UH8500) to no avail. The Options menu is no help either.

I also own the Samsung UBD-K8500 and it plays the disc perfectly in HDR with spectacular results. The Sony X800 will only play it in SDR which results in very desaturated color.
Anyone with the "Billy Lynn's" disc tried this yet? I have a service ticket in with Sony. They were not aware of the issue. Walked me through a factory reset and other settings that I had already tried. They did escalate my call twice; now I'm told engineers are working on it and they will get back to me. Hopefully it just requires a firmware update, as my K8500 plays the disc perfectly (ironic, since this disc is a Sony release).

In all other respects, the player performs beautifully. It just won't output HDR when playing a 4K/60P source. Fortunately, this is the only disc released in this format so far. Not a great movie, and it doesn't look anything like film, but it does show off the format's capability.

The player will internally decode the DD 5.1 bitstream and output as PCM 5.1

Ok so I just ordered one from BB! I have 45 days to try this machine out and decide if I want to keep it or not. I have the Samsung K8500 and use to own the Panny 900 so that's what I'm gonna compare this unit to! Crossing my fingers!

Thanks for the reply - can it convert DTS (and all its supported forms) to DD 5.1 and output as PCM 5.1 on the fly?

The player will internally decode all flavors of DTS (HD Master Audio, etc) and Dolby to PCM...up to 7.1 channels as long as BD Mix audio is set to 'off'. There's no need to convert DD to DTS first.

I'm not sure why VUDU isn't UHD for the in app player. Really dissapointing. Other than that all three apps run perfectly fine

Not looking to convert DD to DTS first - most Blu Rays in the UK have DTS soundtracks as standard so i need to convert them to DD 5.1 to get the most out of my Sonos system. This works brilliantly on the BD-J7500 but want 4K & HDR to get most out of my amazing TV. So have been waiting for other players to emerge other than the Panny 700 & 900 and the Sammy K8500. The Panny's can't do this, the Sammy can but i've not been overly impressed with its Picture Quality. Many thanks for making me a happy bunny! Only problem - the X800 is not released in the UK until April!!

I get the whole 6 foot cable thing but I wonder how the hell these guys wire their setup. My AVR is on a shelf in the back of room behind our seats and pushed up against a wall. Three foot cables are bad enough when the components are right on top of each other, but with six feet I have more wiring than the space shuttle and it looks awful. It's damn near impossible to pack all the excess cabling behind the unit and have it look good.

After picking the two you can buy other movies (up to 4) for 18.60. Not bad at all. We had most on the list already. Underworld and Angry Birds will make a great addition to our collection. Excited.

Personally, replay value wise, the free-Discs list is pretty crappy. My vote would be Underworld (already own), Resident Evil (atleast some eye-candy on there) and The Shallows (lots of eye-candy lol) Might also consider Mag 7 - Rest are forgettable.

BD mix can still be set to ON. In fact if you set it to ON, it will always output Multi-channel PCM, if the receiving device is able to playback DD or DTS natively.

No, unlike say the BDP-6700 you can't force this player to convert multi-channel audio to DD.

However, as stated earlier, it is able to convert every multi-channel format to Multi-channel PCM. This includes disks as well as network playback.

Interesting. The Amazon app allows you to play the Ultra HD content, even if you have a regular 1080p TV connected. The grand tour certainly looks sharper than the regular 1080p stream.

Amazon and Vudu are both is Dolby Digital + and 24fps

No Plex client in the Opera TV store. Pity. Was hoping that might be there. This player is definitely more responsive using the Apps than previous Sony BDPs.

Yes, but if there is a secondary audio track on the disc the player decodes the HD audio (Dolby TrueHD, for example) to lossy DD or DTS, mixes in the secondary audio and outputs as PCM. If there isn't a secondary audio track then the BD Audio Mix setting doesn't matter.

No, afraid not. You can use FF and REW. There's also no way to goto a specific time point either. If you want that functionality I know the Oppo 203 does that. However it didn't seem to support chapter markers either (in MKVs). That was a few firmware revisions back however.

Is any anyone using this player with a Sony XBR75-850D ?

If so can you verify if you are able to enable Enhanced HDMI mode on the TV and watch HDR content OK from this player on that Sony TV. Seems someone is having an issue. Thx.

I have the 65X930D. I can play HDR content fine on Enhanced HDMI Mode. But if I throw in a 1080p Blu-ray or a SDR 4K like Bad Santa 2 my TV exaggerates the color to unwatchable levels.

The UDP-203 supports chapter stops in MKV files over SMB, but not DLNA.
