I had "asked" on the LG product website about a month and a half ago if they were going to implement the Sony DV profile; the question was evidently never approved by the moderator (and thus never shown).

I did just notice the following comment on the same product page [emphasis mine]:

Quote:
*HDR/Dolby Vision compatible TV sold separately and required for Dolby Vision playback. NOTE: The Dolby Vision firmware upgrade recently made available for LG UP970 4K Blu-ray Player is fully compatible with Dolby Vision TVs, except for Sony Dolby Vision TVs, whose implementation of Dolby Vision requires additional software upgrade to devices that connect over HDMI, such as streaming media players or UHD Blu-ray players. However, standard HDR10 content will play on Sony TVs. Dolby Vision is a trademark of Dolby Laboratories, Inc.
I'll ask the question again and reference their own language.

The Sony TV's that had DV added was software based for use by their internal apps only is what I remember reading. Meaning no device hooked up via HDMI will be able to send the Sony TV's with this particular patch a DV signal. It's definitely nothing another manufacturer can do about it.

That's if it's the same upgrade in this video, if not then never mind:

Display: Optoma UHD51A Projector > Elite Screens R135WH1 ezFrame | 7.2.4 Audio: Onkyo TX-RZ920 9.2ch Network A/V Receiver, M-5010 2ch Amplifier; Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000, ProMonitor 1000(x10), SuperCube I & 4000 | Sources: PC, DirecTV, Apple 4K, Fire Stick 4K, Oppo UDP-203, Chromecast & Roku Ultras, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 Pro & Nintendo Switch | Remote: Harmony Elite | HDMI: 40' Monoprice DynamicView+4x1 Switch

Pretty sure the Oppo folks are working on the update for the 203 player as well (admittedly, I can't find the source at the moment). Point being, it can be done.

Has anyone experienced a popping sound just as you load a disc and again just as your start playing the movie?

Probably just the hearts of Oppo fans still dealing with their exit from their players!

Hi guys,

I've been thinking of picking up this player just to use for DV titles as my Panny 900 cant do DV. Just wondering what the performance is like for DV titles?

This player is driving me insane.

Starting about a week ago, it is now randomly deciding to turn on if my TV is on. Also, sometimes I'll try turning everything in my system off and it will decide no... I don't want to turn off... and then turn on all of my equipment. Just this morning I was playing Last of Us on my PS4 and this player suddenly decided to turn on and change the input on AVR. It did this 4 times in an hour. A few times it killed me. What the hell is going on? I've had this happen when I turned my TV on and it's annoying but not the end of the world. This however, is completely unacceptable. Why is it deciding to randomly turn on?

LG UP970 plugged into Denon AVR plugged into my LG b7a TV.

I had the exact problem. Drove me nuts too. Anytime I touched the magic remote, it came on. I exchanged it for a Philips 7502. It does it a lot less but still powers on. I ordered a Lindy CEC blocker and should be here on Friday. Our TVs want to be the hub and it can be a PITA using ARC. It seems to work with sound bars or directly to TV. I think LG forgot about AVRs with ARC. Someone in our owners thread recommended it. Just search for "Lindy".

Sub-Title Issues

I just purchased a new, LG UP970 4k, 3D, Blu Ray player. Works great...Except...

Immediately out of the box, the motor was very noisy..got louder so that 20 minutes into a movie, you couldn't hear any sound. So....As the seller was out of stock, I sent it back to LG, thinking they would just exchange it. They didn't, repaired it and 30 days later it was returned.

Works fine in all modes except....Regular DVD movies. The subtitles are displayed and I can't turn them off. (They are not on in the movies options!) When queried, LG support states that is normal.

None of my other players do this. (But none are 4k, just BD and 3D)

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

TV is an LG 43UJ6300, 4k, and the A/V receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR757

Thanks!

MC

Hmm... I'll try to make sure the remote isn't on my couch. Maybe my slight movements are moving the wand and it's causing it to turn on. That might at least explain the mystery. Thank you! Back when I had SlingTv it actually fixed the problem where the TV auto started the DVD player. It would auto start the sling app instead. I'm guessing the same may happen if you change the default player to OTA. Putting that out there in case this player is annoying anyone else and they happen to have sling or an OTA antenna.

The only problem is when I wanted too use the remote for something like Netflix on TV app and it would start the 970 again. And yes to slight movement of the wand but if AVR is even a little slow on the switching, it starts going down the chain to the 970. There are a lot of posts about it in the owner thread too.

Are these DVD Subtitles or is this Close Captioning from the TV instead?

So no other changes right? They didn’t pull out DV again right? Is the constant Netflix DV still going?

None that I can see so far. DV is working fine via disc, I'm not a Netflix subscriber so can't speak to that.

Right guys i got some news for you, apart from todays firmware update, i have the new LG UBK90 which is newer version of up970 heres my quick rant, its exactly the same UI layout to me its the exact same software than old one and update file is exact same build number on the new player vs old one its just a little bit more weight and UHD doesnt make load sound, but to my after 24 hours with it, its a waste of money and everyone with up970 should get it for free as its just a fix for loud sound, i cant believe the software is exactly the same, i doubt any upgrade has been made apart from build quality, also remote is exactly the same with one small change on remote button but still IR sensor is bad and has to be in line of player, so guys dont waste your money like my self

Yes, constant DV still happening on Netflix. On the other hand, watching the Netflix reboot of Lost In Space, it looks exactly the same as viewing it in DV on my LGs built-in Netflix app.

I also discovered that the INFO/MENU button on the 970 remote will bring up a video bitrate/resolution stat when in the Netflix app. It slowly creeps up from 480 to 2160 and hits the 4K resolution at a bitrate of 7.63Mbps. If that's true it's quite a bit less than the Netflix recommendation of at least a 25Mbps ISP download speed and far below the UHD Blu-ray max data rate of 108Mbps. The picture, though, while not a good as a 4K Blu-ray is pretty good.

Netflix re-encoded all their contents over the past couple of years to reduce the bandwidth used by the servers. The 4K resolution bitrate now ranges from 7.63 - 15.92 Mbps. I suppose one of the benefits is that it has given access to the 4K content to those with slower connections.

That's an interesting observation. Can anyone else corroborate this?

Since when I first got my player I've put my 2-channel amp on it, which should be heavy enough to squash any drive vibrations. And, given my TV stand, was the only real place I could comfortably put it. Hey, win-win!

Does the Lindy CEC blocker work well for this player? It's driving me mad how it switches my inputs every time I move the remote. I had it steal focus twice while watching legion on hulu last night. I'm about ready to disconnect the hdmi cord (a huge hassle considering how many movies we watch).

I do need ARC for OTA and streaming apps so I can't disable it on the TV. I've tried disabled power on CEC on the TV (and my Denon receiver)... in fact in my receiver I am able to turn off CEC for everything but ARC but it still steals my focus any time I move the remote.

If the lindy does not work you can try either to unplug the 970 or to put a plug switch before the 970 or put a wifi plug like this one and you close the plug with alexa
