Is there a way to force the player to choose between HDR 10 and Dolby Vision? The player will always default to Dolby Vision if it’s available. My TV has a recurring issue with crushed blacks with Dolby Vision. I would like the option to just choose the HDR 10 version. Thanks.

There is no way to do this on the player. If you cannot do it on the TV, the only way that I can think of to do this would be to get receiver or an HDMI switch that is HDR10 compatible but not DV compatible and have it in the middle so that DV never gets negotiated.

LG UP970 question

A lot of the LG UP970 reviews seem to look a bit unfavorably on the player. My friend is offering to sell me his UP970 and I was wondering if that was worth it?

I guess it depends on what your friend is selling it for? It looks cheaply built but I know that it's played everything I've thrown at it, even more than my more expensive Oppo 203.

Same. I prefer my up970 over my Oppo 103D. Upconverting blurays look better with the LG player. The Darbee adjustments never looked that good to me.

I actually liked the Darbee. I was thinking of buying one to put with the LG. I do miss my Oppo's build quality, though. It was a really beautiful machine. I wish LG would make another tank like the BH200. People forget LG used the Marvell Qdeo chip in that sucker. I still have one and it still puts out a great pic. The only thing its missing is 3d and a usb that plays video. It has codes for all-region.

UP 970 switching over the TV & receiver while watching another source

This just started a couple of Days ago;

TV is a 2017 LG OLED, UP 970 connected to it via a Denon Receiver

While watching something on the Apple 4k, the Player will suddenly turn on, & cause the Receiver & TV to switch over to it. Takes 2 attempts on the Denon to get switched back to the Apple 4K. Last night it happened maybe ten times during a Film on the 4K. No recent updates on any of the Devices. Anyone got an idea why this should suddenly start happening?

Thanks for the tip

I still wonder why this trait started out of nowhere.

Has this player got any new firmware updates?. I been trying to update for the past 2 years and it keeps saying "no update found". What is the latest firmware?. LG website does not have firmware for this model. Also should the video settings be set to 24hz or 60hz for best picture?.

There hasn't been a firmware update in almost 2 years, the last one added Dolby Vision support.

If you're just playing discs, set it to 24Hz. If you also use the Youtube app, set it to 60Hz and let your display do the pull-down.

I have Firmware version BD.39338.80329C is this the latest?. What's the difference between 24hz vs 60hz? should any disc 1080p or 4K be played at 24hz for best picture quality?. How about SD discs?.

For audio which would be the best setting for digital output... "Auto" "PCM-Multi CH" or DTS Re-Encode". I have this connected with a 4K pass-through soundbar.

For picture quality, neither will make a difference, those settings are about motion. Though most displays will take a 60Hz signal and do the necessary pull-down to 24Hz. Honestly, you'll probably be fine setting it to 60Hz and leaving it there.

For audio, that depends upon what your soundbar supports. If it supports all the latest codecs (which most do), just leave it set to auto.
