The LG UP970 is a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player that supports Dolby Vision. It was first introduced at CES 2017, now it is available for purchase and is priced at $299. It is the second UHD Blu-ray player to come to market that offers support for Dolby's premium HDR format, and the least expensive.

This player features two HDMI ports: One HDMI 2.0a port for UHD/HDR output plus an HDMI 1.4 port for audio, in case you are using a soundbar or AVR that is unable to pass HDR video. In terms of Internet connectivity, it has Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. There is also a USB port that allows for playback of video, music, and photos from an external drive.

The LG UP970 offers cinematic sound. It is able to decode a variety of surround-sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Additional audio formats that it handles include multi-channel LPCM, DTS, FLAC, AAC, WMA, MPEG 1/2 L2, and MP3.

You can play more than just Blu-rays on the LG UP970. It can also read BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DTS-CD!

"LG is committed to providing an awe-inspiring home entertainment experience, and the LG UP970 Ultra HD Blu-ray player is a prime example of how we continue to innovate for American consumers," said Tim Alessi, head of product marketing at LG Electronics USA. "The LG UP970 demonstrates our dedication to providing unmatched picture quality in the marketplace, and it’s the perfect accompaniment to our award-winning Dolby Vision enabled 4K LG OLED and LG Super UHD TVs."

Of course, in addition to Dolby Vision, this player supports HDR10, which is the standard used by Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. The press release also notes that Dolby Vision streaming will be available later this year, following a firmware update. Finally, LG is offering the UP970 at a promo price of $239 at launch .
