I guess the only app I wished they had is Tidal and allow MQA files to be played. SJ

The interface for Tidal was horrible. You needed your phone as well as the remote for the oppo

I am hoping someone can keep me from losing my mind...lol I have an Apple tv 4k connected to the HDMI input of the 205. To say that I have lip sync issues is an understatement. The video is ahead of the audio. I have my projector connected directly to the Oppo and am running an HDMI cable from the audio only out to a Yamaha 3040 AVR. Is this an issue with the HDMI input, the Apple Tv, or ? The HDMI cables are the Premium certified from Blue Jeans cables. Thank you for your help

Does your Yamaha have any adjustments for 'Lip sync'? I remember I had an older Yamaha receiver and it had that adjustment. On page 66 of the OPPO manual it does mention A/V sync delays due to 'simultaneous processing video / audio signals'. Look for A/V sync- and you can attempt to adjust it there '100 - 200 ms'.

iOS update 11.2 kills the Oppo 20x app, it launches but remains in the background, at least on my iPad Air 2. I've tried 'resetting all settings' on the iPad to no avail.

Just a heads up...don't update if you rely on the Oppo app without a restorable backup.

The Yamaha does have a/v sync settings but I only have the issue using the HDMI input of the Oppo. Netflix and Hulu have been the worst. I have been using the Oppo a/v sync settings and have to change them frequently depending upon the app. What I have not tried to this point is changing the cable. I just searched through my cables and forgot that I had picked up a premium cable at our local network supply store. I changed the Blue Jeans cable for that one and changed the audio cable to the Yamaha as well. Lastly, I always power on the projector and then the Oppo. I decided to try powering up the Oppo first then the Epson and so far, the a/v sync is perfect. I hope it stays this way. Could it really be cable related?

I found that out on my phone after updating last night. I will not update the iPad until Oppo updates the app. I use that app all the time

Yea- Blue Jeans are good 'non-snake oil' cables. I'm using their XLR's and speaker cable. They do not have many 'certified' (showing the Gold HDMI Certified sticker)- so I bought my certified 1.4s from 'Cables to Go' (C2G) - having no issues so far.

So, can I have Roon running on my Mac and have the Oppo access it through the network or do I have to have my Mac connected to the Oppo directly? Thanks. SJ

If it works on the Mac like it does on a PC, you can set it up to do both.

Not yet, Oppo says MQA is only available with files in Music ( usb storage input) check out Bob's post # 3009 in this thread.

I think a Chrome Cast Audio would do the job. I have had a CC Audio connected to Optical and powered by the Oppo's USB port. When Oppo gets MQA working on digital inputs and fixes the bass management, I will defiantly try this again.

The best Tidal player I have found that is very reasonably priced is the Bluesound Node2. It also does NOT play MQA via Roon BUT the internal BluOs app does and fully unfolds MQA via analog out and first unfold out of digital coax. The Tidal interface is the best I've seen. The Node2 can be had for around $500.00. Bluesound is an off shoot of NAD.

Fix should be available very soon:

This is a known issue that will be addressed through a future software update. We sent Apple the new software on Friday, a day before the iOS 11.2 release, but Apple has yet to certify the software for release.

Best Regards,

Customer Service

Are you sure you haven't got it already? I still had the ‘app exiting’ bug after the update. Then I deleted the app and downloaded it again. Then it worked.

Thinking of getting the Oppo 205 for several reasons. My concern is that it is probably over kill for my Bose 901s. Will it make a difference (improve sound quality) with this quality (or lack of quality) speaker?
I am using a Marantz SR7011 which does not have the balanced speaker wire connections.

Thanks-

Holly large font batman, lol. Unless you plan to utilize the 205 analog outputs I'd go with the 203.

MQA support is currently only for Media Files. I.e., the stuff you play via the Music icon on Home Menu.

However, OPPO has now stated they are working on:

1) Support for MQA-CD

2) Support for MQA playback into the Asynchronous DAC Input, and

3) Support for MQA playback into the Optical / Coax Inputs

No time frame has yet been announced.

Is there more? We'll just have to wait and see!

The A/V sync slider is broken for bitstream since day one, so for now the workaround can be done

a) - setting the delay in the Av reciever

b) setting oppo to pcm

Multichannel and stereo

OK, for the Oppo 205 cognoscenti -

We currently run the Oppo 205 as a pre-pro in a dedicated, modest space for video only. Running the 2 channel balanced outs into an amplifier then to two KEF-LS50's backed up by a pair of REL T7i subs - everything running full range. All good.

However, we would like to improve the dialog on movies - some down-mixes are quite poor for preserving dialog. So, add a third KEF LS-50 and dedicated amplifier for the center channel. At this point I will use the Oppo audio processing to send 70Hz and above to the KEF's (now acting as front left and right), 70 Hz and below via the Oppo subwoofer out to the REL's using their LFE input (bypassing REL's on-board filters) and the Center channel to the 3rd KEF. The SR/SL speakers will be set to 'off' to get the proper 5.1 down-mix.

I will continue to use the stereo balanced outs for the FR/FL KEF's, which can be done according the Oppo manual.

Finally, the questions:
- this will all work, correct?

-what happens if I play a pure 2 channel source such as a music CD?

many thanks for any advice.

If I'm not exactly understanding I apologize. When you configure a surround speaker setup you drop down and set FL & FR speakers. This will preserve your surround sounds. If you choose stereo down mix the surround info will be mixed down to stereo.

I obviously don't understand all of this but:

Which will sound better into Bose 901s:

A) 205 Analog into receiver or

B) 205 Balanced directly into Bose 901s?
