Multichannel and stereo
OK, for the Oppo 205 cognoscenti -
We currently run the Oppo 205 as a pre-pro in a dedicated, modest space for video only. Running the 2 channel balanced outs into an amplifier then to two KEF-LS50's backed up by a pair of REL T7i subs - everything running full range. All good.
However, we would like to improve the dialog on movies - some down-mixes are quite poor for preserving dialog. So, add a third KEF LS-50 and dedicated amplifier for the center channel. At this point I will use the Oppo audio processing to send 70Hz and above to the KEF's (now acting as front left and right), 70 Hz and below via the Oppo subwoofer out to the REL's using their LFE input (bypassing REL's on-board filters) and the Center channel to the 3rd KEF. The SR/SL speakers will be set to 'off' to get the proper 5.1 down-mix.
I will continue to use the stereo balanced outs for the FR/FL KEF's, which can be done according the Oppo manual.
Finally, the questions:
- this will all work, correct?
-what happens if I play a pure 2 channel source such as a music CD?
many thanks for any advice.
