From OPPO: I've looked up this email address and looks like your registration is mid-June for the UDP-205 Interest List. If that information is accurate, the player is not likely going to be available to you as there are thousands ahead in the queue and we are not able to manufacture enough units for everyone in the queue.
Interesting that there were already thousands ahead of me on the list. That is a lot of demand. Now I need to find something from a different company.
Time to start doing research. I am in no rush. I currently have an OPPO 95 player and am cannot view 4k with either my Panasonic plasma tv or my laser LCOS projector.
Yeah, I think the handwriting is on the wall, even for those of us who placed interest earlier than this (for me, early June).
I already have a 205, purchased last fall and is now sitting in my home theater media cabinet. I wanted a second one for my two channel listening room which has a all-analog tube pre-amp and has been served right now with a Mac hooked up to a Oppo HA-2 portable DAC and an Apple Airport Express (now with Airplay 2!). The HA-2 was always a place holder for something else and I always thought I'd have time to save up for another 205 and I think I may have placed interest too late. And I refuse to pay what eBay flippers are asking for.
But I recently added back a Oppo 203 back into my house from a friend I'd sold it to earlier. I'm thinking now that I might place it in the home theater and move the 205 to the two channel room. The 205 checked all the boxes I was looking for in a player for the home theater:
1. Would play just about anything, disc or network.
2. MQA compatible
3. USB DAC for critical listening
The 203 only checks the first box but since I became a Roon customer recently, I can at least do the first part of unfolding through software with it to any of the endpoints in the house and the 203 qualifies. I'd lose USB DAC capability but I care more about that in the 2 channel room. And as a bonus, I get a credible headphone amp in the two channel room where I'd more likely use it....I'd never use it in the home theater.
