I have not done a direct comparison to the Oppo, but I don't think there are any/many complaints about the PQ on this Samsung. It looks great to me. For the price I paid, about 38% of the price for the Oppo 203, I actually like the player. I would not complain and would even recommend it if Samsung spent two minutes to fix the FW and issue an update that fixed subtitles so they work properly on USB playback. I need to use subtitles very frequently.
My old Samsung BD-D7000 1080p player had no trouble rendering subtitles on USB file playback, and they even looked very nice. The font was nice and they were not so large, like on this player. It really doesn't matter how small or large they are anyway, if they are BLACK. On most scenes you cannot even SEE the subtitles, as they are too dark. You can only see them on lighter scenes. There are settings to change the size, font, color, outline etc. and I have tried them all, but none of them seem to work properly or stick after changing the settings.
What a disaster. How hard is it for the Samsung software team to fix a few lines of code and make them play white, like every other player? Also, even on the smallest setting the subtitles are far too large.
I just want the subtitles to work like they did 6 years ago on my old 3D 1080p player.
Samsung dropped 3D support, subtitles via USB playback do not work properly (although subtitles via disc playback work).
Two steps forwards, one step back.
