The only thing I had time to look for was the 21:9 option.

It is indeed there... I just wish somebody would release an affordable 21:9 OLED TV at around 55-65"!

So I was finally able to get home and install this FW. Brief impressions:

- install process was painless, took max 4-5 mins; connected the Ethernet cable, downloaded new FW, unit rebooted once or twice
- menu structure is as before, logically arranged and easy to navigate to

Consequently, I confirm that the following new features have been added:

TESTED FEATURES:
1. DV for Sony TVs, aka Low Latency Dolby Vision mode (what I REALLY wanted). My test 4k UHD disc was Matrix, and both my Sony 940E and the CXUHD displayed the Dolby Vision pop-up message at the beginning of the play session.

2. new TV Aspect Ratio modes (21:9 Movable, 21:9 Fixed and 21:9 Cropped)

3. 3x HDR to SDR modes (Auto, TV-led or Player-led). I left it in 'auto'.

4. The main screen background is indeed black - Mr. Creeps is now gone.

UNTESTED FEATURES:
5. HDR10+ (don't have a tv panel which supports it)

6. Slow motion playback in A-B repeat mode (feature is there, didn't test it).

Overall, I'm happier than before since I have LLDV capability as well now.

Great job Cambridge Audio - thanks for releasing it, so current CXUHD owners should stop looking for any other 4k UHD disc spinner. It has finally become the player it was meant to be!

Region-Free BluRay?

Can't seem to find this at the moment, does anyone know if the CXUHD is region-free, being born British and all? Meaning, is it capable of playing 'regular/1080P' BluRays from Region 1 and 2?

FYI, as most of you already know, 4k UHD discs are common across the world, so they are region free.

Could any owner kindly check if it possible to reverse the front display to show time remaining on a movie as opposed to the more usual time elapsed? The sister oppo does this.

The sister Cambridge does the same. Setup menu > playback setup > OSD Mode > Remaining
“OSD information stays on the TV screen until the user cancels it. By default, displays remaining time instead of elapsed time.” (source: CXUHD Users Manual English – Reference)

The OP was asking about the front display on the unit, not the OSD. It appears the front display has the capability as the manuals show "RMN" on the window, but it's unclear how the do this on the Oppo or CXUHD.

It’s so clear that it cannot be otherwise. After selecting Setup menu > playback setup > OSD Mode > Remaining, position 8 on display – “RMN” is illuminated and the displayed time is the remaining time.

OK, then although not stated changing the OSD setting also changes the front display setting?

Maybe, both Oppo and Cambridge wanted to challenge their customers. Or, perhaps, the manuals were written originally by using Chinese characters and the translated versions ended in not so clear texts.

I looked at Cambridge site and the CUXHD is listed as an archived product. Does it mean it is end of life without any replacement?

In short yes...

The Cambridge CUXHD is made under licence by OPPO Digital/BBK Electronics, who decided to stop development of new products back in April 2018.

Accidentally discovered, sometime in the last month, that the "Page" buttons can be used to scroll through Title/Chapter elapsed/remaining times if the OSD is up on the screen for Blu-ray and DVD-V/A. The change is reflected on the player's display and whatever is being displayed will remain on the player's display if you remove the OSD (so, if you switch to chapter remain that will continue on the player's display even if you remove the OSD). In the last couple days I discovered those buttons can be used to scroll through track/disc times with CD/SACD on screen and on the player's display, as well.

The new firmware is still incomplete for my needs (HDMI Input Dolby Vision pass-through). I submitted a new service request.
Quote:
I own both the Oppo UDP-203 and CXUHD. I submitted several service requests almost a year ago which were finally resolved with last week's firmware update. I am disappointed to find that the "HDMI IN BYPASS" did not make it into the release. This feature allows Dolby Vision to pass via the HDMI input (while still extracting HDMI audio for the audio-only output).

https://www.oppodigital.com/bl.../bl...-Firmware.aspx

I am willing to run beta firmware, but I cannot wait another year for it. Please advise

Under what circumstances would this feature be useful?

With 'HDMI BYPASS' you can connect an external device that supports Dolby Vision (such as an Apple 4K TV) to the HDMI input and (like the OPPO) the CXUHD would be able to pass the video signal, without corruption to your television.

So if your display or projector doesn't support DV, then it's not an issue, correct? Here's what Cambridge said about why they didn't add it:

"Unfortunately, there wasn't a way to implement the feature in a way that would be stable enough for consumers to use without any issues. We decided to scrap the feature as we never want to release something that could cause problems in an already complicated home theater environment."

I wonder if any Oppo owner's are having issues with this feature?

I also own the Oppo and the feature works flawlessly with ATV and Chromecast Ultra. I choose to utilize Oppo/CXUHD because they allow me to switch from bitstream audio to decoded LPCM as well as 24/25/30/50/60 FPS on the fly. I don't know of another device (not even HDFury) which will decode audio to LPCM from a HDMI input.

I've heard back from our engineer and unfortunately, we don't have any plans on releasing another firmware for the CXUHD that will include this feature. That is not to say there won't be more updates in the future, but the Dolby Vision bypass feature isn't something we can implement.

I can see the validity of your use case...blimey that CA won't make it a reality.

So, if I understand your wanted feature request, you want to extract L-PCM audio from an HDMI input? If you have any of HDfury's latest products (eg. Diva, Vertex2), you would have experienced that their tech support is stellar; have you per chance asked them to implement this feature? It might be the only way...

I can also ask for this feature as well (I have the Vertex 2 in my AV chain - superb product all around, extremely pleased with it).

Had the player a couple of days and having to convert my full rips to AVCHD for network support which is a bit of a chore. HDR10+ worked fine over the network via SMB on an mkv rip of Alien.

Coming from mainly using a sluggish android media player I love how quickly the Cambridge boots and comes back from network standby.

However, the question is are people generally using source direct or letting the player do the scaling? I have a 2019 Panasonic GZ OLED and will play around.

7.2 Yamaha RX-A3080, Monitor Audio (Apex & Silver), Seismic 110, XBOX, Intel NUC6CAYH, Cambridge Audio CXUHD, Panasonic TX65GZ950B
5.1 Denon X7200WA, Focal Dome, Sony X700, LG OLED E7V
In both Setups Virgin Tivo V6, Zappiti 4K HDR, FireTV Stick 4K, Harmony Elite

I suggest you send native format so the Panasonic can do the scaling. Because you cannot output/input 120Hz (the constant refresh rate of the OLED panels), the display must process the signal anyway. The scaling on the Panasonics [and Sonys] is the primary improvement over the LG OLEDs.

I did allow the CXUHD to scale to 2160p60 (2:3 pulldown) because I didn't like the judder/de-judder on the LG E6 OLED. I switched to a C8 and it is better but still not on par with Panasonic or Sony IMO.
