I don't want to pay extra for analog outs and I don't understand where this demand comes from (especially for the 9000!). I don't see how Panny has apparently come to believe that they have a competitive advantage in PCM delta sigma D/A conversion and analog pre-amplification over the likes of NAD or Marantz.

Anyhow, is Dolby Vision the only difference?

I always felt like I paid for a lot of features on my Oppo 103 that I never used like the analog outs. The 420 could be perfect for me as I don’t need the analog out and I’ve got a PJ- no DV in my future, but the tone mapping could be helpful. Hopefully it’s less than a 203...

According to the German website Hifi-Journal, the UB424 (the European version of the UB420) will be available next April with a suggested retail price of 249 euro. The UB824 will follow a month later with a SRP of 449 euro. Sorry, but as a new member to this forum I'm not allowed to publish links, but it's not hard to find if you google the name of the journal. It's an item in the News section on February 15th.

I think I'll buy the UB-424 / UB-420 ... Region B...

Seems like it is ideal for a projector set up and I have an Apple TV 4K so I'm not concerned about apps & streaming on my disc player. Any will be a bonus.

Equipment: Epson 9300W projector, Panasonic UB-424, AppleTV4K, Procella Audio Speakers...

I don't know, but I don't need it as my projector only does HDR10... If it does have Dolby Vision, then it's just an added bonus... 😎

Although it will be nice to use the tone mapping for streaming HDR content.

That’s why I’m excited about the 420. I’m not paying for DV or audio outputs I’ll never use. I’m most interested in the tone mapping. Just gotta sell my current player...

I just noticed that the Dutch Panasonic website now provides the full specs of both the UB824 and the UB424. Until a couple of days ago the specs pages were blank. This may also be the case for other countries.

The 824: 449 Euros or about $555. I would guess the 820 will be $499 here in the US but we'll have to wait a couple more months.

Question

My questions may be fairly simple: Will the DP-UB820EB have a BACKLIT REMOTE ?? and as an indication, do their current high end units, e.g. 9000, have backlit remotes?

I haven't made the jump to UHD yet, beiing satisfied with my BDP-83, and waiting for classic big format films to be released in 4k. I had been wavering between OPPO and Panasonic. With the recent development, it looks like the decision has been made for me. I'd likely get an 820 if films I like came out in 4k.

The MSRP in the US is usually lower than the MSRP in Europe if you take a direct conversion from Euro's to US dollars. The question always is, do you want to wait a few months and get a much lower price? Looks like mid-summer release so you'll probably have to pay full MSRP until at least fall.

If you're looking for an OPPO level 4K player, you might want to jump to the 800 series or even the 9000.

If I am correct the only main differences between the 420 and 820 is DV and the analog outs. So since he is a projector owner he would only be better off with the 820 if he wants the analog outs.
